Well, I arrived this past Saturday. Fishing the local pond has been a bit of a let down due to the lack os aquatic vegitation. It seems they have put a UV blocker/dye in the water. It is crystal clear with a Aqua Velva blue tint. I talked with a few locals and they pointed me in the right direction. Went out this morning to a new pond and was able to put together a really nice sack.Braid is a must!!! Best 5 weighing in at 19.2 if that is a indication of how sweet this place is. OBX is one vacation spot to bring your bass tackle to when coming here. I'll post up how the rest of the week goes. Tight lines.
good luck dude!
was thinkin of renting a house down there for my summer vacation but the gf wants to go to mexico. As long as there's fish i'll be happy.
Nice. Everytime I go I only bring the surf setups. Looks like next time will be different. Where you stayin?
Sounds like a blast.
Look forward to seeing how it goes,
Okrod
Rob, how long are you staying for? I'm between Duck and Corolla until Saturday. I've found some spots up here but they only have small bass. I only brought my spinning rod, but I think I do have a spare spool with braid on it.
I'll give you a call sometime within the next couple of days and see if we can meet up. I've been pretty busy doing family stuff but I need to catch some fish...

Dan, I'm about a hour and a half south. Smack dab in the middle of Hatteras island. The town of Avon to be exact. I can only fish dawn and dusk..........Limited time with a wife and 2 daughters. But if you want to make the trek here...I'll be your tour guide and set you loose.

So far only one pond is killer. I have hooked what I think is my PB 3 times in the same spot, only to loose it to a jump or weeds. Now that I have respooled with braid......I hope to hook her one more time. 8-)

Take her to Lake El Salto or Baccarack. ;D
I was in Avon last August. Before that I hadn't been there in years. What really suprised me was the amount of police. When I used to go back when I was in school, there was like one cop on the whole island, now there's one on every other corner.
The other thing I noticed is that now every store you go into, behind the counter is a cute blond with a russian accent ;D Work visas I guess?
Good luck on that new PB!

It's like that all over the place down here. There are eastern Europeans EVERYWHERE. I think there is some sort of summer work program that brings them here.
My mom and dad have a spot in Avon, they get Swedes and Norwegians every summer on a work porgram. If you think the days are good you should hit a party or two at night. I can't do it anymore though since I am married. Oh the good ole days. I spent a many of nights on Avon pier, "If they swim, they're here".

dan is there any surf? i have been surfing the obx since the early 80's, and never knew you could catch LM there. i always brought a surf rod and gear, but man if i only knew.
Everyone that that has seen me catch one is blown away that there is "largies" here. Everyone I have talked to that is surf fishing is having no luck.
The wind killed the topwater bite. A steady 20mph. Switched up to a Money Minnow and landed 6. Largest 4.7lbs. Came in for a potty break and grab some food. I'll be heading out again in a couple of hours.
Nice work Mr. Mitchell! 8-)
Two things:
1. While you're down there, can you try to scope out for me if there's any largies fishing to be had further north around Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills? As you know, I'll be there for a week at the end of July, and I'd like to hopefully run into some bass myself.
2. When you get back, remind me tell you about my little "incident" this past Sunday with the Blue Bullet® on Aquia Creek.
Summary: Huge oncoming boat wake + little Stratos bass boat (me) took it a little too fast + had forgotten to strap down the rods = Kistler+Revo in the drink, gone forever. Doh!

Rob, how does tomorrow evening or morning look for meeting up? I'll give you a call later today to try to set something up.

Between Steven and you........All thats good will be lost. Rich seriously though, I am really sorry to here that. Been there kinda. You are OK and thats what counts... :-/
Found it! Dan mornings seem to be better by far. Check your PM's.
Friday morning Dominion Dan made the trek down from Corolla. The winds again steady at 15-18mph. I caught 8 with the largest maybe 2 pounds (left the scale in the beach house). I think Dan finished with 7. Not sure about his largest, it was larger than the one I caught. No large fish hooked on this day. The wind and heat made it kinda brutal. Now it's time to drive home. :'(
I think I had two on the swimbait, one or two on the fluke, and three or four on a 6" black senko?
Rob, I had a great time, thanks for showing me some ponds down here that have some real fish in them. I would have gone crazy if I had to fish the ponds up where I am all week. Too bad you couldn't get that biggun hooked again, I would have loved to see that. I also got some good practice with the hollow bodied swimbaits and now have a lot of confidence in them.
You might have already left, but have a safe trip back and leave some good stuff at BPS for me!

They're cute until you spot 6 toes on both feet.

Dan, I made it home safe after almost 10 hours on the road......... I'm hitting the Ocaquan Res tomorrow and am lookin to kill them. I hear the are on a pattern that I know and love.
