Bfl At The Lake 2024

fishing user avatarsalmicropterus reply :

Interesting how the Lake chatter dies as we get closer to the T this weekend. I hear 149 boats, cutting to 29-30. That could change depending no-shows and late entries. What's everyone's over/under on the cut line. I say 17#

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

I say 28lbs is big bag

fishing user avatarCaptain Shane Procell reply :

I would think that someone has the big fish dialed in. I'am thinking over 30#.

fishing user avatarsunkboat on big o reply :

pretty sure its top ten no matter how many boats, and after talking to about 20 people on the water last weekend catching what I was catching I think the number of boats will be down around the 160 range. Normally get full field of 200 there but even if you catch a good one now they do not seem to be grouped up. Still I think you will need 24 or more to make top 10. Too many good sticks on that lake.

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

Are you guys fishing the BFL?  I'm interested in seeing how many BR members are fishing it.  I know of one right now...Bruce (bocabasser).

fishing user avatartopwaterrob reply :

Good luck to those who are . It's been rough fishing up there lately for me anyways .

fishing user avatarGLADES reply :

If the weather is good, the turnout is usually good. I think 28# would be enough.

Good luck BR guys that are fishing the T

fishing user avatarsunkboat on big o reply :

Fished it, bombed, lake turned to crap last 3 days. Only took 14 lbs to make cut. I only had 4 lb and didnt weigh. Was wrong about top ten, it is a percent. If i had known that i would have gone to pelican but went up north chasing big ones and struck out

Yea a couple friends if mine backed out last minute. Said the conditions were aweful.

fishing user avatarsunkboat on big o reply :

Friend of a friend caught 32 in gerrards about 300 yards from where I fished. Starting to hate that lake. Last 2 weekends catching numbers was easy, even that became hard this weekend. Whole west side of lake was pounded all week.

On a side note there was a head on collision in the trail going north of uncle joes, Brandon got hit head on, heard he was ok but be careful that trail is real twisty and people drive like idiots through there!

Sad to hear man....I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often the way people go rippin through those trails.  Glad he was ok.

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

A guy we fish with in King Of the Glades (Tim Feller) won it.  He had a massive comeback today, making up almost a 10lb deficit to win the tourney.

fishing user avatargar-tracker reply :

Not a lot of giant sacks just consistent good sacks.

I hear there changing the divisions next year anyone have any info on that?

fishing user avatarsunkboat on big o reply :

Good sacks? Only took 14 to make cut at top 30.

I seen that come back, thats awesome, congrats to him! The guy that was leading didnt even catch what his co-angler caught. Thats gonna haunt him for a while.8 lb lead and lay and egg, feel bad for that guy.

Hey Rob did you hear what won Gerrards?

fishing user avatarbocabasser reply :

This was my first time fishing the BFL and I decided to try it as a co-angler. Let me preface by saying that my boater was a great guy and he was a pleasure to fish with. However, his equipment and his boat were not up to par for the lake. Friday night we had our pairings meeting and when i met my boater, I asked where are we going and what do I need to rig up. He said he had only fished the lake 3 times- Wednesday, Thursday and that Friday. He then said do you know the lake? I was stoked to say the least. I told him I knew the lake a little and that I was on some decent flipping fish. That night I could hardly sleep because my partner and I had found some big flipping fish. We planned on meeting at the ramp at 5 the next morning and when he pulled up and I saw his boat, I knew it was going to be a tough day. I'm not knocking his or anyone elses boat, but part of the reason I didn't fish was because I didn't think my own boat was good enough. I have a Ranger intracoastal with a 200 VMax and a 101 riptide with a power pole. Boy was I wrong. The fella I fished with had a 1989 Vision with a 12 volt motor guide 40lb thrust trolling motor. Again, I'm not knocking his or anyones rig, but to fish the areas i usually fish on the lake you need a 101 pounds of thrust to last all day. We made it to my area, but we couldn't make it in because of the dense vegetation. His trollling motor was struggling with the eel grass. I asked him if he would start up the big motor and plow through some junk to get where we needed to be and he said sure. The problem was, his boat wouldn't start. He worked on that engine for about hour and when he finally got it started, I felt bad and said lets go to another area that was less vegetated. When we arrived at the next spot I realized there were 2 other boats already there. Still keeping a positive frame of mind, I started really focusing on my fish. I flipped up 2 two pounders and he decided he was gonna flip as well. He was flipping with a 6'6" medium action rod with 20 pound braid and a 1/4 ounce weight. I hooked him up with a 1 1/2 oz tungsten and he actually had 3 decent bites. He missed them, but he had 3 good opportunities. Those were the only 2 fish I caught all day and weighed in 4.01 pounds.

I'm not bashing this guy what so ever, but I learned a valuable lesson for next year. I will be entering the BFL tournys as a boater!

Wow a 40lb tm will make for a longggggg day at the lake especially with the wind. Sounds like a frustrating day Bruce. How much was the coangler cost?

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

Sorry to hear about it, Bruce.  Very frustrating fishing a tourney, knowing where the fish are, and not being able to get to them because of equipment.

Your boat is good enough, for sure!

It was $100. I actually enjoyed the whole experience. FLW does it right for sure. The line to get a bag was way long, but other than that, they have bass tournys dialed in!

fishing user avatarsunkboat on big o reply :

fishing co-angler is the reason I got a boat. I had 4 very similar experiences. All very nice guys, not as bad of rigs but 4 guys who had no idea where they were going or what they were doing, once all day in the river, once all day in the rim canal..... but I agree your boat is plenty and the tournys are very well run except they only bring I think 30 bags but shooting the b.s. in the line sometimes can be half the fun depending on who your around.

Who is fishing Goblins? Like to meet some of you guys. Finally met Gartracker on the road as funny as that is.

fishing user avatargar-tracker reply :

When is Goblins?

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

10/27.  I'll be there

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

30th Annual Ghost and Goblins on 10/27/13

The 30th annual Ghost and Goblins tournament date is coming up on Sunday October 27th out of Clewiston. This tournament helps raise money for the "Friends of SATC Inc" (formerly Friends of Our House)helping physically & sexually abused children in Broward County. BigReel Bassmasters, the sponsors of the tournament, has donated over $135,000 in the past 29 years.

Here's a chance to help kids, fish & try to win some cash all rolled into one. In these difficult economic times, those who need help the most are often the first victims of government retrenchment and cutbacks. Unfortunately, even abused and neglected children in Broward County have been some of the most severe victims of this situation. The "Ghosts and Goblins" Annual Open Tournament allows bass fishermen to compete against one another while helping to support those children most in need of support.

So the message to fishermen is to spend the weekend up there and enjoy a great tournament. Roland's always gives the Ghost & Goblin fisherman a good deal on lodging for the weekend. The 2013 Ghosts & Goblins Entry Form flyers can be downloaded from the BigReel web site (http://www.bigreel.org ). Entry fee this year is still $120.00 which includes the big fish pot.

Here is the entry site:  http://www.bigreel.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/bigreel_entry_form_2013.244102818.pdf
fishing user avatartopwaterrob reply :

Did they jack the entry fee on Goblins i couldve sworn it was 75 last year?

fishing user avatarbocabasser reply :

fishing user avatargar-tracker reply :

My partner just committed, or I might have hooked up with you.

He's fishing less and less lately.  I may be hunting for a new partner. One that fishes.
