Now that the weather is starting to make a turn for the better, where are you all heading out?
I totaled my civic a week and a half ago and just my check from the insurance company today and i will be heading out alot once i get a new vehicle.
chris man thats no fun ha. when you get a new car let me know and we need to hit up wilde lake and all those ponds. maybe head down to the flatwater or something
i was thinking about going down the road and fishing powhatan lakes or go over to amelia give it a try if weather holds out!
I might try and hit up Innsbrook if there's enough daylight when I get off work sometime this week.
No where.
Still too cold.
Waiting until later in March to hit some ponds after fishing Lake Gaston.
You guys got free water, no ice?? On ponds and stuff??
I saw some open water in innsbrook when I was at work. It's still cold, but I have to do something I can't sit inside anymore. I don't care if I don't get a bite
i havent checked powhatan lakes as far as iced over but there only about 1.5mi down rd from me so aint nothin to ride down real quick and check...but i hope not!
once i replace the floor in the boat i bought im going to take that out alot. got to replace the stringers to much work.
The rappahanock is unfrozen, I stopped fishing for smallmouth a couple years ago, so I don't know if the bite is any good but knowing smallmouth I am sure you will get bites if your persistent.
Also the tidal rapp is unfrozen but I never have fished there.
Local ponds became unfrozen this week but the water is still cold.
Some ponds have no ice or snow on the bank, like the Innsbrook ponds.
Check out your favorite ponds and you may be surprised that they are actually ice free except in specific areas that do not get the sunlight or are shallow areas.
I would think the ponds would start being productive at the end of March, if not sooner.
Give 'em a try and let us know how you do.
Be safe.
Any word on innsbrook? I was out at a neighborhood lake called wilde lake and had two hits, but nothing landed
checked weather. com shows us breaking into the low 50's for sat-sun!! lets hope it holds!
drove over maidens "upper james" today and looked pretty good water starting to clear up nice still lil high but fishable...may give that a shot for a couple hours this weekend for some smallies...maybe burn up to the first set of rapids and float back down to maidens. 8-)
The private side of Lake Anna is never frozen, I just gotta get down there and see how much snow is on the ground. I plan on puttin my boat in next week for a few days.
Just checked weather.com, gonna be 52 degrees on sunday ! Im gonna be out on the water at lake anna. I'll let my dvr tape all the bassmaster classic coverage while I fish ;D The snow should all melt with 4 days in a row around 50 degrees or so I hope. I dont wanna launch my boat in 18 inches of snow
Fished Lake Rooty in Innsbrook tonight after work for about an hour. Pulled out a descent fish on a green and brown jig. I'd say he was about 1.5, not great but better than I expected
YES!
Lake Rooty is open meaning the other ponds in the area should be getting ready for some good fishing.
Thanks for the info.
The time has arrived to spool the reels!!!
Great to hear rooty is starting to produce. Water still cold, but I managed to pull out two little bass out of a neighborhood pond. Nothing big, but good to see they starting to come out.
So jealous!! I wish some of the small lakes and ponds up here would crack open......... Common March!!
i went and fished some shoreline on chesdin for 5 hours today and caught nothing... havnt caught a fish in 3 months...
anybody ever caught anything in the other lakes in Innsbrook besides Rooty?
The lake furthest from rooty I have pulled out only a couple bass maybe 2# was the best and a little catfish. They not nearly as good as rooty
the small one on the otherside of cox from lake rooty has a few nice 2-3 pounders when they arent biteing at lake rooty i have actually seen a guy take them from lake rooty and then put them in that small lake
yea i used a sexy shad crankbait at the small one and hooked up with a 3lber today
Im heading out tomorrow to try out a new pond i found today and i get to try out my new baitcast combo my first one ever haha shimano citica with a 7mh/f bps carbonlite rod
