What is your least favorite fish to catch and why?
Mine would have to be bluegill or any other type of sunfish caught while bass fishing with a hardbait. I have had some bad experiances with getting hooked while takeing the hook out of bluegills when they are flopping around going crazy.
Any of you guys have a fish you HATE to catch?
I don't really hate catching any fish. I don't particulary like crappie.
I do love the occassional bowfin, though. Hella-fighters they are.
I hate them fallfish. Up here there as common as a bird. Some times you think you have a good smallie on, then you pull up a 20 inch fallfish. They make good coon bait and catfish bait though. ;D
I never liked polywogs, there small and normally end up finning you as you are trying to remove the hook they swallowed. They aren't any good to eat, so those and saltwater hardheads. Actually, theres lots of saltwater species I don't like to hook.
Gobys...hate,hate,hate em'....
Can't say I hate catching anything but I'm sure disappointed when I get a mudfish.
I hate to catch bowfin (dogfish), they're a real pain. Whenever they are around, all other gamefish leave. They fight like crazy, but they are just a pain in the butt.

Funny, I don't think it's the same fish but "Dogfish" is my answer too. They are a type of sand shark that love to ruin $70 Tuna leaders. Once they are in the area,.....move. This really sucks when you are on your secret numbers.
E E L S
They wrap around your line and twist it into a horrendous knot, they are as slippery as a bar of soap, and the slime is impossible to get off your hands. ugh
Sunfish (because they don't put up a fight and they rip the tails of some expensive softbaits >), and Stargazers (because they have so many defensive mechanisms its unreal, and I hate taking the hook out or trying to release them, plus they are as ugly as they come).
Saltwater catfish.
The first one I ever caught was especially small. I didn't know anything about them and didn't think anything about releasing the little fish. Well, as you might expect, I got stuck! I hurt a lot when it happened and then got MUCH worse.
Oyster Toadfish.
Whenever I see the brown I'm thinking it's a flounder, but then I realize it's one of these little punks. >
are those the ones that grunt? (another specie nicknamed "dogfish", it grunts,or barks, like a dog)
Squawfish/pikeminnows. I'm always catching a fat one every year that makes me think its a big smallie until after 5 seconds it just quits fighting and I pull it up to the surface to see its a pikeminnow.
White Perch. They swim around in schools so when you catch one, you catch a ton. Especially here on the Potomac River. They will hit anything grubs, rapalas, spinners, etc. My dad has caught three in a row before and thought he had a couple of bass. When he was pullin em' up me and my wife were just laughing haha. He didn't think it was very funny.
Carp. Can't stand them. I wish they would have kept them over in Europe. I do like whacking them with my bow though.
Mudfish:nasty little suckers
Catfish:when you think you got a big ol bass on a crank or a worm (unless I am targeting cats)
Tilapia: Junk! People say they are good table fare.My opinion they taste like mud, smell bad, regurgitate all over when you catch one, take over small lakes or ponds with quickness, and are second next to carp and cat food.Nothing like having a few hundred of these spook and boil the water when you cast a bait in their area.Time to move!
Eels:when I am trying to catch cats these slimy snakes can be impossible to unhook and are slimier than anything in this world.
Turtles:had them bit worms, cranks, spinners. sometimes snag them on trebles. If it is a florida softshell or alligator snapper you can kiss your bait goodbye unless you choose to end his lure eating career altogether.
Gar:enough said! thats a bad enough word as it is.
Dont mind bowfin though somehow

LBH, this is the species I'm talking about. They do grunt every now and then.

I hate catching crabs.. They just make me itch...YUK.....

Yup,...that's him, give a little pressure behind the pec fins and they bark. WOOF! lol
LBH-Saltwater Bowfin? They the same as freshwater bowfin?
Least favorite fish to catch is a pickeral, they are slimey, toothy, ugly little buggers that always rob me of rat-l-traps, spinnerbaits, and jigs. Nothing is worse that smack when you are burning in a rat-l-trap, slack line, no lure or thump on a jig, slack line, no jig >. But then I put on a rapala husky jerk and when they hit it I cross there eyes with a hookset. hehehe

Ouch! I've caught those while surf fishing. Ever caught the gafftopsail catfishes before? They're like the salties, except they have MUCH larger spines.

My ex caught a 6lb6oz(according to my Zebco "deliar" of the time) salt cat. I wonder if there is an angling record for those nasty things? You could have wiped a five gallon bucket of slim off that one fish.
Hate 'em!
Bullhead Catfish, nasty little critters. Spines like needles and slimy. Yuck!
QuoteWhite Perch.
I forgot about white perch. They will hit anything. If they were any bigger they might be good sport, but the only ones I catch around here are panfish sized and don't fight as well as bluegill.
Scorpion fish and Croakers. Oh, and Gars. Nasty fish.

Croakers are great eating!
Eelpout

I had one wrap around my arm once. I hate those guys.
QuoteCroakers are great eating!
I second that. Me and some friends stayed at one of our ex friends house down on the rappahannock river. She has a private dock on Urbanna Creek which is one of the tributaries of it. Anyway, one night we nailed like 8 of these guys between 1-3lbs each and filleted all of them. Needless to say... they were freaking amazing. Some salt, butter, and pepper... add a bit of hot sauce... W00T!!!
Sooooo good. Not one fillet got thrown away.
Fish tank how do you not like catching croakers??? The fight they put up is amazing. As far as fights go I'd take a carp or croaker over anything else (freshwater or brackish). Though I've only caught two Striper and one was only a lb. I heard those things fight like the dickens.

I forgot to mention how hard they fight. I go after them with 8 lb line and spinning tackle. A 3 lb croaker goes crazy when it sees the boat!
Eel in rivers I dont know if they are american eel or what. They are a pain in the butt....makes a mess of my line
QuoteE E L SThey wrap around your line and twist it into a horrendous knot, they are as slippery as a bar of soap, and the slime is impossible to get off your hands. ugh
x1000
Catfish for me. Can't hold onto them, and they have a nasty tendency to swallow the hooks.
QuoteSunfish (because they don't put up a fight and they rip the tails of some expensive softbaits
Say what? If they got to be 10 lbs you'd probably never land one!!
I hate "Gators" (northern pike and musky). Slimy stinkin' bags of bones that snap off too many baits with those teeth. I don't mind the battle but I hate the fish. I just pull my hooks out of them without brining their foul, stinkin', slimy bodies in my boat.
when I lived in upstate NY there was a fish we called "sheepshead" that everyone hated. I think that's just a regional nickname though... I think they actually called freshwater drum. I never particularly cared for catching them, but man would they put up a fight! Pound for pound they can outfight any bass.
Found a picture of one...
I agree with mobydick. I hate fallfish. I was going to say I hate carp but carp seldom harass my bass baits. Fallfish, on the other hand, too regularly jump on my lure, leading me to think I've hooked a smallmouth.
I've never caught an eel so I can't really say. But I don't think I'd care to catch one of those, either.
I agree with mobydick also I do really hate cathcing fallfish when I'm targeting bass. But now if I'm just out with my cousins I'll take 'em to the local hole that is mostly rock bass and fallfish, then I don't have a problem with them. But the kind of fish I really hate catching are the big ones taht got away 'cause no one believes you I also don't like them big wooden fish that have a tendency to eat lures and plastics like nothin especially the ones that are too deep to see where it is or too deep to get too.
I hate catching pike when out fishing. I don't care for catching them in middle of day but when I am mainly targetting bass they get annoying. I hate when they cut you off or when they tear up your bait also.
SALTWATER:
croakers i think there called.....small and black....they fight good when i first hit it, and i think maybe i got a flounder, or a solo bluefish, they are nasty and i gotta use a towel to get the hook out
FRESHWATER:
SMALL PIKE- I can tell usually because they hit it and you feel a 2 or 3 small taps......
after about 5 secs of a fight, they literly drag accross the surface, it makes you look like an idiot when you catch them
also, with the teeth, i never know how to handle them becuase i catch them so rarely...just a pain in the butt,.....unless they were bigger

Johnnydel,
I think you are refering to toadfish, croakers are long, silver and purple.
Toadfish do croak though.
well i dont know the proper name, but my partner calls them gasper goo's...i hate catching those things while night fishing for hybrid stripers....man ya think ya got a big hybrid on...they fight like crazy for 5 seconds, then its dead weight coming in, then they wont frickin stop flappin and carrying on so you can get the hook out.

ya i hate toe dogfish aka sandsharks, ruin a day of striper fishing only to find out the next time you go striper fishing all your hooks are in a dogfish's mouth swiming around somewhere
Mayan Cichlid. They are nasty little buggers. They are from the Amazon and can be found every were in south FLA. They have small mouths with sharp teeth and sharp spinal fins. When I am trying to catch big bass I sometimes use live bluegills or shiners for bait. These suckers will come up to the live bait and just bite the heads clean off, and then just leave the rest of the fish! > Now I am left with a dead headless bait (that a bass wont go near), and they never come back to finish the job.
see you later
gasper goo's, turtles and gastops, and of course snakes >
Definitely bonita. It's a good fight and all, but when I'm on the ocean, I want to catch fish I can actually eat.
QuoteDefinitely bonita. It's a good fight and all, but when I'm on the ocean, I want to catch fish I can actually eat.
no man take it inshore, when you waste your biggest shrimp on probably the biggest pinfish around. That sucks.
Selfish - but some time I even catch this :-/
But really perch they keep swallowing the trebles and I hate to hurt them when I take them out.

x2 - sailcats have a poisonous barb that will ruin your next couple of days
Freshwater drum is known as sheepshead or gaspergou
The Atlantic croaker belongs to the family of fishes which includes other Bay species such as spot, black drum and red drum. The croakers and drums characteristically produce a drumming sound by vibrating their swim bladders with special muscles. Croakers are luminescent and appear pink when first removed from the water.
Gafftopsail catfish also known as Sail Cat, Sea Cat, & Slime Cat
What roadworrior probably caught was The Hardhead Catfish (Arius felis), or Bait Rustler as I call him, is a notorious bait stealer. Hardheads are considered by most fishermen to be a nuisance very similar to fleas on a dog's back.

Geez that is one ugly fish
Now according to the article it is the first fish in space?
Depending on where I fish
Gar, Carp, and what we used to call perch ( drum everywhere else )
Catfish ( aka the officially sanctioned fish of rednecks ) are a pain in the but to mess with and just not that much fun to catch they do have some weight so sometimes ok
Drum. Yuck. They slime up everything. :-X
pinfish suck. you cant eat them and you have a 90% chance of getting stuck.
skate and stingrays. skate wont sting ya but they still suck. you think you got a nice flounder the bam you got junk.
eels. wrap up twenty feet of line and destroy your leader. regardless of what it is made of. steel leaders are no match for the eel. they do a good job of making them look like a steel leader curlyfry.
oyster toad fish and alligator gar
Little baby gators. Constantly chasing my topwaters. Gators to about 3 feet have no fear of man and wont leave lures alone.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they sent every last one to space. :-/
That reminds me of when I was really little and I used to fish off this dock/gazebo thing in the intracoastal. I would use things like hotdogs and bubble gum for bait and would actually have fun catching pinfish, stingrays, pigfish, catfish, and oyster toad fish. My dad hated it because he used to be the one to take all these nasty fish off my hook!!
saltwater catfish because of there poisonous whisker things
What is my least favorite fish to catch?
A largemouth bass weighing 22 lbs 4 oz >
