While fishing a deep point with a jerkbait for smallies today, I hooked what I thought was a U-Boat.
Hoping the 10lb InvisX would hold her, it was all I could do to keep from pooping my pants.
Net job was quite an adventure but in the end, I got to hold & measure this Beautiful Full Framed Beast.
48 inches of stunning Michigan Musky.
I am so pumped !!!

Congrats! Looks like a great lakes strain musky
Absolutely awesome! Congrats!
Congratulations on your new personal best muskie.
On 10 lb. fluoro? Congratulations!!! You know how envious I am, right? ???? jj
.
What a beast! Were you using any wire or just straight 10lb InvisX? I've been using 8lb for my small jerkbaits on a spinning rod and loving it, but I haven't tested it quite like that ????

Thanks. No wire. Wasn't expecting to run into her but that's always when it happens right? I hooked her on the top/side of her face. The hook marks are visible in the pic. I was super lucky because she actually broke me off while I was trying to net her. But she was gassed and just sat there for a second. Which was long enough for me to scoop her up in the little Frabil. She folded up just right and it was over.
The video is hectic. I'll be able to post it next week.
Crazy deal.

A whole lot of skill mixed with a little luck to land that monster!
Great story for a great fish. Beats my 44" PB hands down. Can't wait to see the video.
Congrats!!! Sounds wild!

I have a most excellent video account of most of this exciting event but sadly will not be able to upload it here for a week or so. But I will as soon as I can. It's too good not to.

Amazing!
What a tank. Sounds like a really fun and memorable catch. Congrats!
Awesome fish Ajay. What a beauty!
What a way to start the year Ajay! Absolutely beautiful fish! I'll bet your heart was in your throat the entire time you had her on the line!

Thank you Sir.
From the savage strike, and the speed and ridiculous length of that first run, I was guessing it wasn't a bass. But judging by the huge head shakes being transmitted up that thin and very taxed line, down the rod and into my already shaking hands, whatever it was, it was hefty.
I was doing relatively OK until I saw her. Heart rate soared, respiration tripled and my knees got a little rubbery at that point. Managed to pull it together plus get super lucky with the 'landing'.
Amazing feeling.
The 2019 season has started fast. Makes early expectations for every trip somewhat unrealistically high.
Keeps me motivated though.

Holy crap @A-Jay that’s a monster! Well done sir! Keep the momentum going, this season already has the potential to be a memorable one for you, that’s for sure!
Holy crap, is muskie season already open in Michigan? It doesn’t even open here in MN until the second Saturday in June.

Same here in Ontario. And here, if you catch an out of season fish, your not supposed to take any pics of it, just immediately release it. But that is a beauty of a fish A-Jay ????????
That's funny.

Beautiful fish.
Here is PA they are firing on all cylinders, every other laydown had a beast laying off it Wednesday. It's a little less stressful when you hook them with the proper gear ???? but what fun is that.
Wow, A-Jay! Awesome toothy!
Beautiful fish. Congratulations!
Congrats. A real trophy you got there
Monstah!
Grats! can't wait to see the vid.

I hear ya @Chris at Tech- It's killing be fall so far behind . . .
Good news though, my recent PC / video editing problems which had delay the loading of content have been resolved. I will be loading the rest of my more noteworthy trips from the first month of the 2019 open water season here as I complete the edits. Perhaps one or two every other day for the next week or so until I get caught up.
I'll add the link here . . .perhaps by the end of this weekend.

Great fish, and I'm impressed you got her in the net with that light tackle!
She was clearly eating well all winter.

Egggcellent...!
Finally got to watch great video, and great fish!
Saw the video, that is a beautiful muskie you caught. Must of been a great feeling surpassing your previous 39-40 inch muskie with this 48 incher! Have you heard of 50 inch or bigger muskies being caught from this lake or is the one you caught the biggest one you know that came from there?
Just finished watching your video...WOO-HOO!

While I do not target Musky, I do enjoy catching them when whenever I get the chance. And Yes - it felt pretty good.
The current (top pic) and previous (bottom pic) Michigan state record muskys were both taken from the same "Chain" of lakes where my fish came from. They are connected via rivers.

I was out this past weekend and hooked into a big Musky on a Red Eye Shad! It came off shortly after, but it came completely out of the water. My guess was a 45"-50" class fish. It's crazy feeling their head shakes with light gear like that! Very awesome fish you got there. Very healthy with no marks on her, can't beat that!
Man, what a great video! I think you're going to need a bigger net...haha. After May, all my smallmouth gear goes away and all the musky gear comes out until the fall. Definintly a great fish to pursue and as you mentioned, after catching a musky that size, all other fish pale in comparison. Great Catch!!
Noice and congrats. I would of been at a loss cause I don't carry a net that big. lol

My Frabil was woefully undersized in this case as well - but I got lucky !

Wow that was impressive. Setting up a camera, pulling up the trolling motor all while fighting that thing. Let me know if you ever need a cameraman!
Awesome vid A-Jay! One thing I must ask, when ya gunna git yer Michigan accent?

Don’t forget to end every sentence with eh. If I remember correctly you already have a Stormy Cromer so that’s a check off the list.

I always say eh. I’m in central Michigan, there aren’t too many here who say it though.
Congratulations! That is quite a monster!
d**n! What a beast. Congrats and great job! I know a few folks who are going to be extremely jealous when i share your vid with them.

Hello Jason and Welcome to Bass Resource ~
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.

I hooked into a muskie while bass fishing a couple of weeks ago. Same type of deal. 8 pound test on a spinning rod. Eventually got it to the boat and my buddy pulled it out but lost it when it freaked out on the deck. It would have been the biggest fish I've ever caught. It probably wasnt legal, but I just wanted a pic with it. d**n muskies have to be 54" on the st lawrence river.

Well, unless you were going to keep it, and I don't know why you would want to, you could have still had a killer photo op ! Hope you get the next one.....

Oh, I wouldn't keep a muskie. I had no net in the boat. I usually dont carry a net. If I catch a pike or small muskie, I just try getting the hook out with its body still in the water by holding its mouth with fish grippers. I dont like the slime and hate the smell. Now I bring the net every time I go to the big river. Got caught unprepared!
I have never heard of anybody keeping muskie but some people must. With a daily limit of 1 fish over 54", there aren't many being kept, that's for sure. I saw a guy on facebook who got a legal one a few days before my run in. I caught a 44" tiger on the hard water there a few years ago. That is the biggest fish I've ever caught. I wish I had caught it on a rod and real.
44 inch tiger is a really big one. They don’t grow nearly as big as a pure strain muskie. Biggest tiger I caught was 38.5 inches and I thought that one was huge for a hybrid.

I keep three different sized nets on board because of where I live and I never know what I'm going to get:
...that last one hurt my wallet, but I don't want kill a big fish that's decades old just because I was too cheap to spend some $$$.

You'll love it!
Mine stays folded flat, either tucked into the passenger side on the floor, or on the port side rear.
Yes, you can open it with one hand with a fish on.
Unbelievable. Great job. Hope you can sleep tonight. That's a fish that dreams are made of.
