What is the strangest fish you ever caught? (exotic species, deformation etc.etc.)
What did you catch it on? Please post some pictures if you have them! this should
be interesting!!
This is probably the strangest fish I've ever caught. It is some sort of carp, maybe like a buffalo or something. I caught this one about 4 years ago on a firetiger Wiggle Wart. The thing had the whole crankbait in it's mouth.
Wow that's a big carp! That's what I ment. Any strange catches are interesting!
Send some pictures!
I caught a pike once that had a pretty weird deformity. Half its mouth was grown shut. When I caught it, it looked pretty sickly. I decided to perform surgery on it amd cut it open the rest of the way with a knife. I ended up catching the same fish again about a month later and the fish looked very healthy and its mouth healed over nicely.
That's interesting! Pike have deformaties quite often.
I heard of a guy that supposedly caught one with two heads!
I dont know if it's true, it's pretty hard to believe!
I actually found a picture of ths two-headed pike. Check it out!

The link doesn't seem to work. Just enter "two headed pike"on GOOGLE and you'll see picture.
dude that is one messed up fish!
And it isnt a two headed pike, its a two bodied pike.
Thats the coolest fish i've ever seen.
That's crazy!
Thats freakin nuts!!!!
siemese pike
I think this is a hoax. The two fish are on a rope stringer. The first (smaller) fish was put on the stringer first and wedged itself in the gill of the second bigger fish put on the stringer.
The link above is from another forum where this picture was discussed.
The seimese pike link doesn't seem to be working.
2 summers ago my buddy caught a dogfish with a split lower jaw while trolling a crawler harness on Houghton Lake. Nasty looking thing I'll see if he can email me a pic. Last summer I caught a 36" 10 lb muskie on my home waters. Pretty crazy because none of the locals even the DNR can remember the last time one was ever caught out there. I'll post pics when I get home from work.

You would be correct!
Its just 2 pike, a smaller pike with its head in the bigger pikes gills..
There was a big discussion about this on another board.
Here's the muskie I mentioned. Caught on a spinnerbait in 3 feet of water on 10 lb mono.
When was the last time a musky was caught before you got yours?
I caught a 21 lb. carp smallie fishing. Caught it on a medium power rod a 6 lb. test line. Also, i have caught snapping turtles, and once i was using a popper in the dark of night, had a blow up, and caught a 28" pike. Half of its mouth was deformed, it looked like one side was almost ripped off. That could be why it was as skinny as a broom stick.
A grinnel (bowfin) is the weirdest I have ever caught.

That looks like some kind of buffalo/carp hybrid.
That is a messed up pike
about 30 mins ago i caught a small water mocassin on a spinnerbait i had hung over some trees in one of our ponds. The spinnerbait has been there for about 2 weeks and was barely touching the water. so i shot the snake and my dad got it out of the tree
i caught a duck once. he was in the way.
A seagull once took my popper! What a fight I tell you!
Here's a fish from Iraq
Here's another
And one more
Thanks for the pics! The third picture is a carp and the other two look like some kind of barbel.
Keep 'em coming!
Awesome pics of the fish from Iraq!
nb1226, I was wondering what you caught those fish on and if there are any bass or other predator fish in Iraq. Thanks in advance!
here a couple of funny but short videos to watch:
www.kevinwakeman.com
We caught those fish in a lake that was next to Saddams Daughter's House. Oddly we caught all of those fish on doughballs, all though some fish were caught on some crappie jigs. Im sure there are some predatorary fish there. Here is a picture of a catfish its called a Wells Catfish, it kind of looks like an eel.
They have the wels catfish in europe and they grow huge. i'm talkin 6-7feet and 300lbs. plus.
They catch them on live fish with heavy tackle. if you have some heavy tackle try to get a small carp
and hook in the back then fish it of bottom with a heavy sinker. you might get a big one. if you do, post a picture.
Im not in Iraq right now, but if I go back Ill remember.
I really hope you dont have to go back!!!!!
Well I have no plans anytime soon
QuoteWhen was the last time a musky was caught before you got yours?
Not even the DNR officer I talked to could remember. People were guessing 10 years or more since one was caught but those are just guesses.
Ever seen the movie Predator? Check this dogfish (bowfin) out! My buddy caught this 2 years ago on Houghton lake trolling a crawler harness.
That's one ugly fish!!!! How in the world was he able to eat?
QuoteThat's one ugly fish!!!! How in the world was he able to eat?
No Idea how it ate, but it couldn't have had a problem as I remember it was pretty big.
From my Brazil trip,
freshwater barracuda.
dogfish.
pirhana
While I do not have picutres, I once cuaght a ramora (sucker fish) while King Makeral Fishing. I tend to think a shark was near my bait and the ramora happend to get snagged.
Those are mean looking fish!!!
I wouldn't go for a swim there! Where those caught on lures?
Redliner, that second fish looks like something out of a horror movie. What kind of fish is that?
Well lets see.......... I've been catfishing and caught a snapping turtle, I've also caught a snapper on a top water lure. I caught a moray eel while deep sea fishing. Lol I've also caught a flying fish with my hand deep sea fishing. Also I was crappie fishing at night once, and I tossed out my crappie minnow only to put a bat out of the air. Also I was trying to fish a turtle out of my koi pond and I accidently hooked up with one of my $600 dollar fish. Talk about landing her carefully, I was so scared lol.
The freshwater barracuda and dogfish were both caught on a Zara Spook. The pirhana was caught on a silver/blue Rattletrap.
The dogfish (2nd fish) did look like something out of Jurrasic Park. I wish I would have taken a picture of it's full body - it had a real prehistoric look to it.
pic of the real frilled shark
Awesome!
This shark was swimming in shallow water on the coast of Japan and later died!
Must have been sick.
this fish reminds me of the coelacanth. some ancient looking fish which is also still alive today
I saw that vid of the frill shark. it does look prehistoric. The Coelocanth. That looks like something that woulb be found down in the Amazon as well..
The coelocanth is a saltwater fish, isn't it?
I heard that fisherman have caught a few in Madascar I believe. Correct me if i'm wrong!
I believe you're right Trig. i wonder how they taste...
I dont know about eating them! Looks almost like those things have legs like a big toad or something.
No thanks!
I caught a green sunfish one time. That was cool looking.
I used to live 10 minutes from Patman. I preferred fishing millwood though.

Strange coloured sunfish that is!
The strangest fish I caught was a Pacu I hooked while fishing for Peacock bass. I wish I had a picture of it and its nasty teeth. They kind of look like pirahna teeth. I also caught a snakeshead once and that was one ugly mofo.
Do you have pacu in florida?
Yes we have Pacu in Florida. They are not a native speceis and are most likely only in our canal and lake systems because of bad aquarium owners who released them into the wild. I've only seen two caught before so I guess they are a little rare.
Any pacu pics?
The strangest fish I ever caught had to be a remora. (the fish that leeches to a shark) I don't have an actual picture of the fish I caught :'( but here is a picture off the web http://www.aptoshs.net/~gmcbride/Marine%20Bio%20images/cimi2001/sunlbaquarium/remora%20+surgeon (it is the fish on the bottom right) I caught the remora with a gulp swimming mullet on a jighead while fishing off the jetti for fluke. I just took a long look at it after catching it and then released it. If I could go back in time I would have tryed to keep it alive and got a camera . Was a fairly decent size too, like 26 inches or so. I truly could not tell the top of the head from the bottom, no lie haha.
