As some of you guys have seen and heard, i caught a 10.2 thursday night on the 9" original MS slammer in rainbow color. I still can not beleave it...just incredible!!!!
Short story to the fish-
Headed out thursday in hopes of getting a 7+ to get a ticket to Matts swimbait raffle from Dave. I knew conditions would be a little tough, because of the spawn starting. Saw some beds with no fish on them, so that got my hopes up a bit. Started out with a white spinner bait, but soon switched to all topwater, while skipping a BICO under the docks where available. No fish on the 7" frog or big super spook, so i put on the 9" rainbow, it hopes to get hit by a bigger fish than with the 7". Fished off a point into a windless shore line just as it was getting dark. Some new pads were coming up in the area i was fishing. Got the perfect wake going for the slammer that i have hardly fished. About 15 feet from the boat I see a big fish suck it down. It wasn't a huge crashing hit, but she sucked it down like a big bass does. I knew right away it was a big fish. Im glad i had the extra heavy rod with 25 pound mono. Saw i had a pretty good hookset on her, so i let her tire out just a tiny bit (probably about 10 seconds ) Before i brought her to the boat and lipped her. I couldn't beleave my eyes! I knew for sure i got the 7+...and more! 10.2 pounds! Took the lengthxgirth because i knew i would get a replica done. Took some pictures and called my dad i was releasing the monster. Fished the rest of the night still shaking from that fish!
What a hog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys need to understand, this is SE Mass, as in,...right over the border (to the NORTH no less) of RI and OUR state record is 10.6.
Just to put this into perspective
Awesome fish
Who did you sell your soul to? :-?
Awsome job, thats just sick.
NICE PIG!!
I like that plug you used. Worth every penny you paifd for it that day! Are you gonna leave it in for the mount?
I hope you threw that fish back.
QuoteI hope you threw that fish back.
Haha i don't know 10.2lbs up here doesn't happen often or wait i should say never happens, if he kept it he deserves to, I know i would of kept it. Im still kicking myself in the A for not keeping the 7.5lber I caught at east twin on a buzzbait last year for a mount, my biggest up here yet..

Just get a replica made. Then, when you sneeze, the fins won't fall off.
Great looking PIG! Nice catch! I bet you're happy you made the switch in baits!

Buckmanjr is the ultimate sportsman; even though he caught probably one of the biggest bass to be photographed in a while from Massachusetts, he still went ahead and released it after taking the photos. 8-)
Congrats...fish of most peoples life!!!!!
I agree with LBH on this one and I have been saying for a while the state record in RI will be broken soon!!! (Not by me probably...but!!!) More people fishing, better equipment and LURES!!!
ajr
congrats on the catch, that things a monster
QuoteI hope you threw that fish back.
Fish was released, thanks
Thanks guys, i was shaken the rest of the night fishing. I still could not beleave it.
That's VERY impressive. I'm guessing not too many bass fishermen around there are throwing 9 inch swimbaits!

Being a transplant to New England, I am starting to figure out that southern hospitality doesn't really apply up here....

I will try to get there saturday. Trying to fix the crawdad, if not i might be there with someone else's boat.
Great fish
The only reason I asked if he released that fish is because that is an old fish it takes a long time for a fish to reach that size. If you get its proper measurements you can get a nice fiberglass replica made there is no reason to keep that fish. Thats why everyone should practice catch and release that is just what I think. Anyways congrats on catching the hog

No explanation needed, i agree completely. I was more than happy to see that fish swim away and kick hard out of my hands! I will be ordering the replica soon ;D

That is a rare fish. And you targeted it. Congratulations. Very well done.
The eastern coastal waters (MA to NJ) seem to give up some bigger bass than more inland. Interesting.
Awesome fish!!! Congrats to you ;D ;D
wow.. only a handfull in New England can claim a 10
