Maryland- Triadelphia Reservoir 2024

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Anyone fished it since it has been opened?

I am a mere 10 minutes away, and took the boat out there alone today. I ended up with 3 fish, but I was working out technical difficulties most of the time  :P

If anyone has fished there recently, and would like to help me out- PM ME. I would love to get out there a few more times before it gets way to cold.

Does it shut down for the winter, or is it always open?

Thanks fellas

Ben

fishing user avatarBane reply :

I believe they shut it down in the winter, Hows the water level up there? I'd love to give it a shot once more this year also.

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

The water level is low, but the greenbridge ramp is open. That is the one at the sharp turn in the road.

I want to get out there every sunday after church 'til they close it. They are really biting.

fishing user avatarBane reply :

Yea so Ive heard, Just dont think I could get my boat off the trailer :'(

fishing user avatarBane reply :

I just looked up the closing times for boating on the WSSC's website and they close down on December 15th (Black Hills closes this day aswell)

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

I am going to the Skins game on Sunday but if anyone wants to go on Saturday and has room I am definitely up for it  ;D  I fished there in late October in my inflatable but it was REALLY windy and I couldn't keep the boat in control long enough to catch anything.  I would love to give it another shot.

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

I am electro-fishing with the DNR tommorow on the reservoir (i get to miss school too)

I will let you all know how it goes!!!! :P

I will also be fishing there after church sunday!

PS: What reservoirs/ lakes do not shut down for the winter in MD? Loch Raven? Prettyboy? Liberty? Rocky Gap?

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

I know Loch Raven definitely closes.  I think Clopper Lake is open year round

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Hey guys

Went fishing on sunday after church. I ended up with 2 smallies and one fluke crappie. All were caught on a mid diving (i think around 10 ft) Storm Wiggle Wart in hot tiger color.

I also had some hookups at a couple other spots, but didnt put any more in the boat.

O yeah- the smallies were the two biggest I have ever caught!

3.5 pounds and 2.5 pounds....will post pictures soon!

Nice job Ben! They're some nice looking smallies! Congrats!!!

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

Very nice fish!

fishing user avatarBane reply :

Very nice smallmouth, I see the water is still down pretty far, You think I would beable to get a 18' nitro off a trailer at the ramp? Dont want to ride out there and buy my pass to not beable to :P

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

yeah, I think so

There were plenty of bigger boats out there. I would make sure to bring waders just in case! I am pretty sure I saw a ranger or two out there last time.

I'd love to see you out there, there are fish to be caught

fishing user avatarBane reply :

crap..dont own waders so it should be interesting. Depending on how cold it gets this weekend I might go out.

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

hmm...yeah....just be prepared to puch and shove the boat to get it off. Once you are off it should be some prime fishing....

deep and slow= LARGE Smallies

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

I have a small pontoon boat that I used at Triadelphia, Rocky Gorge and Little Seneca reservoirs. Even when the water is at normal pool I usually have to come to an abrupt stop at the ramp to get the boat to leave the trailer. In cold water it would be highly suggested that you bring your waders as your going to be pretty uncomfortable the rest of the day if you get wet.

In the spring of this year (2006) a woman plowed into the back of my boat almost pushing it into the bed of my truck. It wasn't until October that the insurance companies considered it a total loss. My new boat is still at the dealership being prepped for me to take. I have lost all this summers fishing to a woman applying makeup instead of driving her suv. Where's the justice!

Anyway come spring I'll be there!

Edit:

Forgot to mention... Ben23, You have some nice photo's of your fish!

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Hopefully I'll see you on the water!

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

Ben, you will see me out there. Hope to see all you guys here at this forum.

I have uploaded a photo of my new boat (that is still at the dealership) so you guys will recognize me. Please come over and give me a shout! I will be offended otherwise :P Nothing better then to have friends on the water.

I have also suggested that everyone carry or mount a marine radio in there raft so that we can stay in contact with one another. So far only a few have done it. I think its a great idea. For one suppose you get to the lake and see a friends trailer in the parking lot, You don't know where on the lake he is. It would be as simple as a radio call to let him know your there, and perhaps trade some fishing info?

There is also a Tournanment Trail forming on the WSSC reservoirs.  Triadelphia, Rocky Gorge Little Seneca and Piney Run reservoirs.

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

Ben, I took the liberty to do some exposure corrections to a photo you had posted here. I hope you don't mind? You can now SEE the fish...

Ben23.jpg

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Thanks, that looks alot better now.

Reallly? a tournament trail? That would be amazing, even though I would get my butt KICKED. There are some people who fish the reservoirs daily, and absolutely tear them up. Jerry Sauter and Craig Walrath are two fine examples.

The only thing holding me back is my boat. I woule get run over by most of the guys with big old dual Ray Electrics on their transom.

I am mad that the reservoirs will be close in less than a week

ANYONE KNOW WHERE YOU CAN FISH DURING THE WINTER FROM A BOAT? AROUND HERE??

I really wish they would leave the reservoirs open until they are frozen, because I know that they will be plenty fishable all through Christmas and New Years.

Ben

ps- i cant wait to see everyone out on the water during spring, we should have a bassresource fun tournament/ get together. I know that there is information to be shared that would benefit all of us.

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

Ben I don't think you would get your butt kicked. Your holding some pretty nice fish in those pictures are you not! I'm not saying there won't be any "heavy hitters" registered, but that's not totally what the tournament trail is about. Sure winning or placing well is important but the comradely and learning experience is there too. It has a small entry fee with 95% payback. Big ray electric motors will be on some of the boats. I have them also, but think about it, there are quite a few GREAT fishing holes really close to the ramps at all the reservoirs in our area. Now if they were to fish the Baltimore reservoirs, that may be a different scenario.

The closing of the local lakes does suck. All of the major ones close. I have suggested everyone contact Wssc and voice your opinion on the reservoir closings. Ya' never know???

Your choices are certainly limited, and it will be a much longer ride for you. The Conowingo reservoir stays open all year. Mattawoman creek on the Potomac river is of course an option which has controversially some of the best fishing in Maryland. Mattingly (formerly slavens) boat ramp offers access to the river in a all no wake zone that will be pretty user friendly to an electric only boat.

Send me an email or personal message sometime if your interested? I don't want it to look like I am advertising for anyone on this forum. I'm new here and I like it too much! P.S. the get together is a good idea...

fishing user avatarSteveFinMD reply :

Striperone & SpinnerB,

Good to see you guys over here.  As you can tell I just found the site myself (thanks to SpinnerB).  Looks like a great site that I will be visiting often.

fishing user avatarHotDog reply :

Hey Striperone,

How's the striper fishing on Triadelphia? I hear you guys have gizzard shad in the reservoir. This 20.5 pounder came from Liberty Reservoir.

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

HotDog, Really nice striper you have there. Impressed!

Yes Triadelphia has both gizzard and threadfin. Problem is you aren't allowed to net them. I have pretty good success in triadelphia and Rocky Gorge. Certainly not all the time, but my fair share anyway. I hate to admit it but my wife not only has her way with me but the stripers as well ::P. If you ever see her, DON"T make any bets. ;D

SteveFinMD Good to hear from ya'. Nice forum here. I didn't know spinnerB was here as well? Have to get together sometime. As Ben23 has suggested maybe sometime in the spring at Triadelphia or Rocky Gorge? Yea HotDog Hope to see you there TOO! I need another striper man there to help fend off the bass fisherman! (Just jokin' of course, I love the bass as well)

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Thanks for the support Stiperone!

I think I might try Conowingo, are gas motors allowed? I have a 7.5hp to put on the boat. If not, I have sufficient electric motors.

I really need to keep fishing so that I am not rusty for the Junior World Championships in Alabama!!!!!

We should organize an official BassResource.com meeting at a local reservoir. It would be nice to share info and go fishing with each other.

Hey Ben, Sorry for the delayed response!

Conowingo Reservoir doesn't have a gas motor restriction like our local reservoirs do, just be careful. Big horsepower bass boats are a dime a dozen in the spring and fall. Remember too it's a big reservoir in comparison. I think its 8000 acres and about 15 miles long. Show yourself and your boat some respect and you will be fine. I have been there a few times in a relatively small boat with no problems.

Are you really going? Man that would be great, I would love to see you go. I can read the headlines now ; Local boy hits the big time, joins the ranks of Roland Martin!

A get together would be fun. It will happen.

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Ok, thanks for the warning. I think I might give it a shot.

Yes ITS TRUE!

I am really excited to have qualified out of about 50 MD jr Anglers. I am hoping that I can make some new publications before the tournament- Anyone know a writer for a local paper???????

I am making huge preperations, and I hope I can get on some fish. Win or lose it will be an amazing experience!

fishing user avatarSpinnerB reply :

Steve and Scottie...I've been over here for a while but don't read/post too consistently. Check out the articles they have on this site...the information they have here is awesome!  I recently moved to Upstate New York so I won't get to fish MD waters too much :P But on the other hand Upstate NY has a ton of great fishing ;D I always check in on any MD postings to see what's up in my old stomping grounds. Oh..MarcBorger is on this board too as RockvilleMDAngler.

Hey Ben...Good Luck in the Junior World Championships. We'll be waiting to hear how you did.

fishing user avatarSteveFinMD reply :

SpinnerB,

Thanks for the update.  I  hope you unlock the secrets to fishing your new territory.  You will be close to some awesome Salmon fishing.

SteveF

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

Hey it's great to hear from both you guys (spinnerB & SteveFin). New York does have some good fishing, but I can't stand the cold ;). I remember you saying  something about moving, I see it was true...Good luck up there and hope to see you guys around here.

Ben, You Da' Man! I bet you are excited and I'm sure it will be a great experience. Here I'm thinking you are limited to Triadelphia and maybe some local ponds when in reality your also fishing the lower Potomac in tournaments.  :P  This does raise a question (?) How does that work if the members are under 16 and without a boat? Who's boat do you use and who runs it? Excuse my ignorance I just have never looked into it.

If I can do anything to help you in your quest for the title shot in the Junior World Championships, don't hesitate in asking. I would love to see a local do well there.

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

Hey, sorry for the slow reply:

The adult clubs volanteer their boats, and serve as boat captains during all of the tournaments requiring boats. The Classic Qulaifiers will be the boat captains down at the JWC! They run the main motor, but the kids run the trollin motor.

As of now I am trying to get a few more sponsors, then I will be using ALL of my money to get new gear and whatnot. I want to make sure everything is perfect come the big event!

Thanks for your support!

Ben

fishing user avatarstriperone reply :

Ahhh...that makes sense. Thanks for the info.

Seriously, let me know what I could do to help your sponsorship.

fishing user avatarHEPPATAX reply :

You guys be careful going to Triadelphia.  I was going to go there for my first time tomorrow morning, then saw they found 2 bodies there today, likely from 2 separate incidents

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

Wow this thread is a blast from the past!!!

fishing user avatarBoett43 reply :
