Any MA anglers.... 2024

fishing user avatarJigfishn10 reply :

I had a tough mid-summer catching fish. I still manged to catch some of the smaller ones, but it seems to have pick up.

How about you guys, how did your summer go?

fishing user avatarxjma99 reply :

I've had a busy summer and haven't gotten to fish as much as I would have liked to.  I caught my biggest bass, ever, in mid-July, 8.5# 24" larry, from shore!!  Only got a crappy cell phone pic, and she went right back into the water to be caught another day.

Since then I don't think I haven't caught anything over 3#s, even from the boat!!

fishing user avatarVooden reply :

Very tough summer. Mostly caught on farm ponds with jigs, some top water but a lot of missed blow ups. Afternoons to dusk seemed most productive.

fishing user avatarplymouthrockbass reply :

this summer did seem unusually tough. Did most of my fishing after work at night and thats when i had the most success. Caught my biggest this year in mid march and it was a 5lbr. but during the summer the days and afternoons didnt produce much. The summer before seemed to be the complete opposite. Owell, gettin ready for ice-fishing ;D

fishing user avatarGTrombly reply :

they kicked I disagree every time i went out this year. but I still kept going back for more. I caught the one in my avatar the first time out in march.

fishing user avatarBoots reply :

that's a nice fish, i never have luck at mascuppic (the apartments give it away).  you ever pull a tiger musky out of there out here of anyone catching one?

fishing user avatarGTrombly reply :

no and i did not know they were in there. I heard they are in flints in tyngsboro. There are huge carp in masscupic though. They have scared the hell out of me a couple times.

I hit one out of Cook's Pond. You could never imagine muskie coming out of that color water.

fishing user avatarBoots reply :

yeah they stocked it for a few years (somehwere between 2000-2006 i think) they should be good size by now but i've never heard of anyone catching one either.

yeah flints was stocked in the early 90's,  doubt they are still in there though.

where is cook pond?

fishing user avatarGrundleLove reply :

I broke the MA record for large-mouth this year . 9lb and some change, but that was in may and was broken by Aziz as always...man fishes like a beast

First of all, largemouth record is 15-12 in Mass.

Second, I gotta see the pic of the 9 pound fish. If you produce it, props to you...

I'm on high alert.

fishing user avatarShane J reply :

How do you "break a record", and not know the exact weight of the fish?

How do you break a record if it is 6 pounds lighter than the existing record?

fishing user avatarShane J reply :

Yet another good point! I didn't know Mass had such a big record! That's crazy!

fishing user avatarJigfishn10 reply :

The bigger LMB seem to be down the Cape area. The 15-8 LMB record was caught in Carver.

I think the bigger ones are in waters where they can gorge during a herring run.

Got to love those cranberry bog ponds... the largie fishing on the Cape is great, but the smallie fishing is better.  :-X

Wow, I just learned something. I never caught a smallie down there. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks Tin.

fishing user avataronion man reply :

Man guys.... SHHHHHH!!!! Keep quiet! You guys are exactly right, the fishing in the Cape area for Largemouth and Smallmouth is as good as you'll find in MA. Lots of good natural lakes around the area. Some are deep, others are shallow... Great fishing and a secret to several. There are pressured waters, but if you own a canoe, kayak, or cartop boat, you are in luck. Lots of good ponds without the big hype or pressure.

fishing user avatarGrundleLove reply :

Geez dont jump on me fellow anglers! Should of been more specific. Heres the scoop. I fish Ames Nowell(Abington) a lot because I am convinced the biggest large+pickerel are in that pond. So I landed this monster there. To be honest it probaby wasent 9 and change since the scale i was using was from 1940 and was rusted to perfection. But never the less it was atleast 6+. ( i got carried away because i wanted to make a post with links but i needed 10 so i was just making the rounds....everyone relax.)

BUT. I have a video of the catch, here is the link! enjoy:

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

Look, there is a big difference between 15 (the record), 9 (definitely a great fish, esp in the NE) and a 6+.

Make those outrageous claims and expect to get "jumped on" every time you post.

For real.

Ha. I just typed up a detailed report of my summer, thinking this was about MAryland. I'm an idiot.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Close to 6 but not over half of the record.

So type it in. There's no bias here. Besides, I would like to read that! I'll even modify the topic title for you... ;D

Awesome, Man!

Tin,

I haven't fished the cape in a few of years. Since the downturn in the economy, my summers have been spent working outside of the sate. Last year, I pretty much stayed local and getting my now 6 yr old son into fishing.

I know what you mean tho, pretty sad.

fishing user avatarJigfishn10 reply :

Has anyone been icefishing? I haven't been able to go, but I was just curious if you've been having any luck?
