Just curious if anyone is interested in sharing their opinions on their favorite place to catch smallmouth in NH. I'm sure Winnipesaukee will be popular. Anywhere else you go when you need a bronze fix?
Squam!

I thought that might be another popular one.
How about Winnisquam? I've never tried there. Is that a quality smallmouth lake?
There are smallmouth in the Merrimack river.
lake umbagog on the border between maine and n.h. best smallie lake i have ever fished!
Bow Lake is great, as is the Merrimack. Squam is very good, though, just had more luck at the others.
I am going with the Merrimack river and Bow Lake

webster lake in franklin has some great smallmouth fishing as well as some great largemouth.
in frankfort ky there is a little river and its the best i have seen, we took kayaks and caut around 100 in a day and a half, post later with the name
its elkhorn creek, and its beautiful, remind you alot of reenbrier river.
Newfound has some great smallies in it as does the CT River.
It's been a while since I started this thread. I'm surprised, but happy, it's still near the top. Some good looking water bodies that I hope to try next season. I've been to Bow Lake a few times and caught one or two, but I never seem to do well there. Where are you guys finding them (if you don't mind sharing)?
I've only fished Bow Lake a couple of times myself. There's an abundance of smallies. We fished mid-summer in about 18' of water. They were hitting 4" power worms, senkos and tubes. Fished right on the bottom, slow presentation.
Lake Waukewan in Meredith is my favorite. Not much pleasure boat traffic. Plenty of great fish in that lake all over the place, on tips, in coves, and out deep!
The best SM fishing in NH is in Maine.
No way. NH has the best smallmouth fishing period.
Stay out of Maine, the place blows, no fish there. The Residents are hostile.

Agreed
The best fishing is where ever you are catching them at the moment.
Yeah, we got better smallie waters in NH. Now here's another question. Where are you guys' favorite places for spawn time smallies? Mine is Massabesic.

+ 1. I agree
Spofford Lake for me. Was under 1lb from the State record last year on a Smallie there.
Wentworth is pretty gd, as well as Squam
That settles it, NHBassmaster. Spofford on Wed, the 4th. Never been there, but really want to.
Deal. Name the time and where you wanna meet.
Cool. I'll be in touch.
Shane if you want to fish together sometime I could use some pointers. Let me know. Thanks Derek

My vote is for Newfound. GIANTS!
Spoffords pretty awesome as well.
Hi, I'm new to BR. My son and I are heading to Squam Lake in NH in mid May (2012). We fished there in 2007 and had a great time. We had a quide and remember some spots, but I'm wondering if anyone had some places - locations - on Squam that they might share with us. Anything would be appreciated. We have a Navigational chart for Squam .. so just pointing us to an island or other spot would be awesome. Also if you have any favorite places to get a great burger would be appreciated as well.
Thanks !!
Be very careful on Squam, it loves lower units. Grt fishery, but it's a rock pile wait'n to happen
Newfound is great during spawn/early June for smallies. Anyone fish there yet this year? I'm headed out Wednesday for the first trip of the year. Could be too early but could also have the lake to myself.

So follow up to this, just fished our first tourney at Newfound this year and had a decent tournout. 3 smallies, 10lbs 14oz total, kicker being 4lbs 14oz. Good average, came in 3rd, winner at 4 smallies totalling 17lbs 12oz, his lunker was 5lbs 13oz, biggest smallie I've ever seen. It was a toad. Pictures to come...
