No doubt about it, its a lake. Sorry, what were you looking for?
Looks like KY Lake. I see two major stageing spots.
QuoteLooks like KY Lake.
Maybe...........
But what does your angler intuition tell you when looking at that picture?
I might stop and fish those two sandbars and the little pocket on the north bank of the top bay on the right. Other than that. I would have to see a topo map.
Clear water and deep?
it tells me that its time to go fishing
That you know how to use Google Earth?
It's deep
Has two underwater bars (Or rock wing dams)
Many points
Water is down (to winter pool possibly)
Has current
Other than that nothing.
QuoteThat you know how to use Google Earth?
My exact thoughts, and that the body of water has plenty of secondary points to play with. Did I mention the boat flying to the south?
Not sure where this is going, but I do like that he put up a google earth pic, and asked people to dissect it in a way. Would like to see more of that kind a thing. As far as what I see...sand bar, or rocks of some sort...or deeper water. Like the little cove looking features. Also...looks warm!!!!!!!! The backs of the coves look good to one looks like it has a creek feeding in. The white shoreline is interesting to...what is that?????
I am no expert, so....there it is.
8-)
White shore line indicates low water.
Cool. Just looked an unusual color.
its tidal
It is Kentucky Lake. Looks cool on google earth. The Land Between the Lakes in cool, and the amount of water to be fished looks amazing. The further down the lake, there are the same pattern of rocks or sand, as in this pic. What are the circle looking impressions that are in some of the "same" looking type structures down the lake? If you go south and look at some of the same type dark areas, you see what looks to be big circles in the sand or bank? I love this stuff. May be nothing, but looks cool.
Being a Dam Lake, does the release of eater have anything to do with the sandy type condition? Not a clue, just reaching as I research online.
By the way...If I am way off...I claim IDIOCY!!!!!!!!!
I hate when some paints a big white line down the middle of a lake.

How else are you going to control traffic?
QuoteQuoteI hate when some paints a big white line down the middle of a lake. How else are you going to control traffic?
It's tricky though. No longer is it "red on right return", it's more of an English version of traffic control, "White on right return" Be careful out there guys.
Does anyone have the link to the thread where the guy explains what programs to download and how to overlay the google earth with the others etc? It was awesome, I'll try to find it
It tells me that picture is 4 years old and taken a month before the roadtrip will be taking place.
Kentucky Lake just north of hwy 80

So what exactly are you looking for...or what is your answer????
QuoteI hate when some paints a big white line down the middle of a lake.
That's where the barges are supposed to go. That's not where a bass boat is supposed to go if a barge was just there unless you like high altitude boating.

Unfortunately, there is no contour info for KY lake. Barkley OTOH.

Get you a grid that was shot before the lake was built. DOE or some other government office will have them. Pick the grids you want and then draw in the water line and you have the best, most accurate map of any manmade lake in the country. I have old grid shots of Sam Rayburn area here in East Texas from the 30s and the detail is amazing.
I've been looking at it and listening for about ten minutes and it hasn't told me a thing yet. Should I keep waiting? ;D ;D ;D
Lots of great replies so far. I havent heard what I am looking for though.
Think OBVIOUS.
QuoteKentucky Lake just north of hwy 80
Exactly. Barnett Bay to the south and Vickers Bay on the north. Vickers has an old road bed that runs east/west on the north side. I plan on fishing both these areas during the BR road trip.
Lets see, obvious huh? Its obvious that no one knows exactly what your asking, including me. HA!
I've studied it pretty closely and have determined that its a pretty deep looking lake, has a few under water points and a few coves.
With all due respect...Grace us with your Map/Google Earth reading skills. This thread is going no where....is this your Hot Spot for the BR Road Trip???????? Place Jimmy Hoffa is buried? Michael Jackson's other glove fall off here? Aaron Martin 1st place tourney win...hiding there..... A big stash of the Bail Out money in a sunken safe......what?
:'(
It tells me that no matter what i see when passing my favorite lakes today, that the stupid ice WILL melt, and i will once again have open water to fish...... 8-)
Here...here!
it tells me nothing.
Am I missing something? That photo told me to find a topo map that showed the contours of those two bays, particularly those underwater points shown as shadows. Why is it that most everyone replies that the photo tells them nothing? It screams "Look for bass here!"

right, but the OP says thats not the answer.

That is the best answer so far IMO. Basic, obvious, and to the point.
I read a ton of great answers.

The picture has 2 bars, that jut off of the points. The bars show you the current flow, and if there are fish there in April, how they may be positioned on that staging area.
Being that some of the bass will be in spawn, those bays are a great place to look.
Less obvious is that those bays are just a short run from Kenlake Lodge.
Never been there. If I were to go and the river was not in flood I would be up river. Ya'll can have the down lake area.
Jack, that IS the up lake area. ;D
I gonna do what I always do on a new lake, ride around until I find something that looks like home and fish the hell out of it. ;D
From what I have looked at so far, this lake is a lot like home. Lots of secondary points and creek channels fit right in to the way I like to fish, jigs and cranks.
Was a good thread...wish we could see more of this type of stuff. I myself enjoyed just finding where it was in the world.
Thanks
