What Fishing Rules Do You Have That Might Be Different ? 2024

fishing user avatarlanzbass reply :

My Grandpa was always taking us fishing and no matter where we went he had his own set of rules that he used, here is one !

When fishing were others kept casting over his line and tangling , he would reel in, and instead of untangling the line he would just cut the line of the other person and lay their lure, fly or hook on a rock beside him !

He said that he never had any of the people tangle with him again :)? I have never done this, but it has crossed my mind a few times !

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

I have heard the fish won't bite if you don't hold your mouth right.....usually this is directed towards kids and the correct way to hold your mouth is closed :)

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

No bananas.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Use a Net.

fishing user avatarsuperdak01 reply :

Grandpa made it know, If you are fishing with someone and they are havin a bad time no catching anything, and you catch somethin, dont rub it in. Karma is a ____ and will come back to bite you.  A good life lesson as well.

fishing user avatarChris reply :

I think this is what your talking about?

1. Angry man catches no fish.

2. Easier to feed them than to fool them.

3. If you want to catch fish you must think like a fish.

4. Big fish see your flaws.

5. Perfect casts produce perfect fish.

6. Remember they are just little green fish.

7. Fish the fish not what you want to fish.

fishing user avatarNice_Bass reply :

No roller skates on the boat.

(I have never had to enforce this rule)

LOL, I love it. Sounds like me and my old man back in the day and now me and my 5 year old. I'll say, "son, please dooo not cross my line... just cast that way.. lol". He'll move down the bank and catch something usually haha. He's a great lil fisherman. The other day west of Indianapolis, at Raccoon Lake, same scenario, and he caught a little striper, maybe 10 inches lol, right off of the bank.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

No Whistleing on the boat!

Never step on a boat with your left foot first!

Mike

fishing user avatarFish_Whisperer reply :

If the signs are in the head, the fish's mouths are sore and you're wasting your time.(papa swore by this and wouldn't go.)

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

"If your not getting hung up, your not fishing where the fish are!"

                                                          "(getting bit)"

Either way, but something my dad always said!

this i have found to be true...me and my friend do it to each other a lot and everytime the next outing the one saying junk gets like 1-2 fish and the other catches a bunch

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

This has been passed down for a while... If the cows are laying down you won't do too good if they are standing you will have a great fishing day..

Meaning any cow you see (if any) on the truck drive to the boat landing ... The atchafalaya is behind a levee where people own cows.. So every time you go there or around there you will see cows.

Guess I will have to start taking the long way around so I pass the cow pasture on the way.

Like the idea of cutting the line of someone who crosses your line. There are some idiots out there for sure.......

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

If you want to complain buy your own boat.

fishing user avatarMichiganFishing1997 reply :

If you don't bring snacks on the boat it will be a bad day of fishing. Therefore. Bring snacks, or just don't go.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

If the fish are on the spawning beds, leave them alone.

And what's the deal about bananas? I've heard that from quite a few, and totally ignored it.

That's as good an explanation as any I've heard. MaybE the best. LOL

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

The original reason for not bringing bananas was to avoid bringing dangerous spiders on board.  It's from centuries ago,but has simply developed into superstition of bad fishing nowadays.  My uncle would not let you on his salmon charter if you had them, lol.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

No garlic scented lures in my boat. And partners who complain are going to start getting dropped off at the nearest dock from now on. I have had it. One dude in particular.... We took second this past weekend in a team open, have cashed a couple other times, and even won one, and this guy is constantly complaining about what I am doing, where I am doing it, and how I am positioning the boat. No more of that. And when he's not complaining about what I am doing, he's complaining about how other guys he fishes with do things...........I can see why he is available all the time.

I'm not really into scent, period (unless it's winter and the water is below 40.) But there are some garlic scented lures that I use regularly that flat out produce. Chompers drop shot worms for instance. Is this a superstition, is there a story behind this, or do you just not like the smell?

When we finally fish together, I'm bringing extra JJ's and a pair of floaties, lol.

I just don't like it.....there is a semi-story to it. I had a partner once who left a bag of chompers worms in my rod locker, and it smelled like garlic for weeks. I prefer the smell of moth balls over garlic.

No floaties needed, I will just take you to my buddy George's house and tell him you are interested in buying soft plastics from him..................that will learn you.

Now what's REALLY frustrating is when this ISN'T true. Like on tourney day when "what I've always done" doesn't get me "what I've always gotten" and I'm left scratching my head wondering why the heck the 20lb stringers I could catch with my eyes closed on any other day turns into 2 or 3 dinks.

fishing user avatarcrankbait2009 reply :

im really gonna hear it for this but here are my rules when I take anyone fishing.....

1. no beer allowed on the boat

2. i dont wanna hear any music while fishing.  if you wanna listen to it, bring headphones

3. no whining when its hot and the fish arnt biting

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

My only rule is: There are no rules! Do what you want to do,be your self. I fish for fun. If I was a tournament guy I would be different, but I like for the people who go with me to have a good time. Drink a beer if you want, talk on the phone all day, or toss out a tight line for catfish off the back of the boat if that's your thing. If your doing something I don't agree with or aggravates me you won't be invited back.

fishing user avatarkanasbassfisher08 reply :

cant believe no one has said dont eat fish before u go on a fishing trip its bad chee and i wouldnt say no drinking but i have fishing todo no time for drinking. and as for music did go with a friend and he was blaring country and i got my pb smally lol but didnt like that it was so loud. and for rules cast where u need to but dont be a dbag

Sounds like good rules to me, for a great fishing trip :)

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Rules.......Yeh, I've got some.

If you haven't done your homework...............don't come with me.

If you are analyzing every other minute.........don't come with me.

More than 1 rod and 1 tackle bag.................don't come with me.

If you are a whiner.........................................don't come with me.

Music.............................................................don't come with me.

Playing with your Iphone...............................don't come with me.

Castnet..........................................................don't come with me.

Baitfisherman.................................................don't come with me.

Firearms, unless you're a cop........................don't come with me.

fishing user avatarjessejames556 reply :

I had no rules until I took my friend out this spring and he pulled out his iphone and set it on the console and had it playing rap over the speaker......I apparently have to have rules now.

fishing user avatarJolly Green reply :

Skip rocks elsewhere. (My youngest doesn't fish more than ten minutes at a time; too boring, Dad!)

X2.. I like the H.L. Mencken quote as well.

fishing user avatarrangerboy reply :

turn the phone off and fish.. lol.  my grand pa has cut my line a few times as well. funny know

fishing user avatarGeorgiaBassBros reply :

Dont cast over me or i will not hesitate to flip my knife out and cut your line. ABSOLUTELY NO BUG SPRAY, not even because i think the fish dont like it i just cant deal with the smell. Just about the only other thing would be NEVER throw crap in the water or slam your bait in the water to get the weeds off or sing while youre with me unless its humorous. Other wise i dont care what you do. Play with your phone, smoke, switch baits every to seconds. i couldnt care less, just dont be boring and dont be that guy that talks non stop
