just wondering, has anyone noticed the complete lack of fishing shows anymore. i cant find a fishing show to save my life. besides bill dance who gets more boring and monotonous every show. catching a 6 pounder cast after cast.
Well right now is technically hunting season, so more of the hunting shows are on. Like summer when it's fishing season more fishing shows are on and less hunting shows.
i have noticed the same thing, very few fishing and way more hunting shows.
my neighbor was a producer for tv fishing show. tells me sometimes they have a live well full of 6 pounders in the camera boat. when they are hawking a lure they stop the camera and put the fish on the lure and then start the camera again........lol.
ever notice on a tournament show the rod tip is kept close to the water and on a tv show the rod is held high so the fish can jump for the camera shot, we never see the ones that slip the hook........haha.
The fishing shows usually start in January.
Falcon
i work 2nd shift hell, i ordered the sports teir from cox just for fishing shows and football,(mostly hunting but some fishing) i even stayed up till 7am to watch the good shows(gotta get up at 12pm to make it to work)
WINTER SUCKS!!!!!
oh and do you realy wanna watch the guy on tv fishing, get skunked for 30mins :-X
I just got Verizon FiOS and I now have the World Fishing Network and the Outdoor Channel. I can't watch the shows I have recorded on the DVR fast enough 8-)
I have Fios but I haven't subscribed to the fishing channel and the outdoor channel yet. I NEED TO! No other channels have any fishing shows right now. I have to work a lot this time of year and I don't get out to the lake so much, so I at least need to see some fishing on TV.
I only have versus on Charter. The fishing shows will start again after New Years day. Then we'll be flooded.
i just want 'Day on the lake' back. Almost all the personality hosted fishing shows are a joke anyway.
Not necessarily fishing shows, or everyone's cup of tea, but Bass Pro Shops has a plethora of how to videos on their site. They might serve to ease the symptoms of withdrawal.
Over a hundred fishing videos to watch. Check it out and decide for yourself.

I miss Denny's show. Figures that they cancel the ones everyone seem to like. Very few worth the time it takes to watch. What ever happened to Bass Center too?
you could try the FLW on FSN
it comes on, on sundays at 11 est time
Love Mark Zona's "World's Greatest Fishing Show"! That guy is just funny, and usually has someone along who can catch some fish. I still have a couple of then DVR'd from August and September. Can't wait for them to start again.
In the world of outdoor entertainment there are two seasons. Fishing and Hunting. It is currently Hunting Season. Just wait till February and the fishing shows will come back on.

The only channel I can get that used to show fishing shows is Outdoor Channel. They used to show lots of great fishing shows ;D, but for @ 9 months now almost all I see are hunting shows. Might as well change their name to The Hunting Channel! > Happy fishing. 8-)

Or remember Fish Fishburne ? Dude was a crack up. Miss his show as well.
I swear, it doesn't matter what season of the year it ishunting is always on. Six days a week it's deer hunting, elk hunting, even turkey hunting. That one day that they actually show a fishing show, it's soon followed by a hunting show.
It's winter, fishing folks up north here are out on the ice fishing and you don't see many shows on that either.
Maybe it's just me, but whenever I turn on the cable to check out the outdoor showsmore than 60% of the time its hunting. Spring, summer, fall, and winterit doesn't matter.
I'd like to see regional programming as we fish year round in Florida.
Jose Wejebe, The Spanish Fly, is one of the few programs I enjoy.
How many on here remember what I think was the first popular fishing show, "Gadabout Gaddis, the Flying Fisherman"?
http://gadaboutgaddis.com/
A day on the lake is a great show...its cool to see the pros sometimes folks struggle to find fish too....just more realistic, you kinda get to be inside their heads and see how they read everything..
Worlds greatest fishing show is downright entertaining....Z is hilarious and so are half the pros that are on that show...Hackney, Swindle..
Bill Dance is nothing but a salesman (i actually bought that crankbait thing with the eel tail, which sucks), but his bloopers on youtube are outstanding.
The tournament shows on ESPN on the weekends are pretty good if you haven't already seen them 100 times, especially when they are focusing on the educational stuff.
A line up of fishing shows some of us might be missing is actually on a religious channel. I have Directv and I get this channel called NRB that has a pretty good slate of shows. Off the top of my head some are Fishers of men, Jimmy Houston, Christian Angler, and Linders Fishing edge. The other day Christan Angler or Fishers of men visited Lee Sissons lure factory and they spent some time asking about his career and how he started making lures for Bagley. It was a very neat episode and one crankbait fans would eat up. So as long as you can stomach the Southern Baptist message that they plug every 5 min you can enjoy some good fishing shows.
Bring on more fishing shows as long as they never get to be like the "hunting" shows that we have now. Shooting corn feed deer out of a "blind" on a private fenced "ranch" Is hook-n-look still on?
i cant stretch this topic enough.. angers me daily lol.
i say my favorite fishing show would have to be the bass pros. other than that i like bill dance, bass edge, al linders angling edge, jimmy houston, city limits fishing, and roland martin fishing. 8-)
You can always surf over to Lunkerville and watch those episodes online, 24/7/365
Hey Fishing Rhino, I remember Gadabout Gaddis. Used to watch him every Sunday with my parents. Seems to me it was on right before or after American Sportsman with Curt Goudy. Happy fishing.

I also was wondering where all of the fishing shows went. I went to zap2it, TiVo's web channel guide service, and did a search for fishing. Turns out that, at least on Versus, the fishing shows were moved to Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in the very early morning. For example, Linders Anglers Edge was on Tuesdays at 5:30am. I think they will be back on in January at the 10am spot.
Time warner cable here in my area put the Outdoor channel into a pay package with a bunch of other stuff I have no interest in. ESPN2 and V/S are all we have around here on regular TV.
bill dance???
Can't find him, or anything, I'm lucky if I find a bass show a few times a year!
The only sports channels we have are; Sun Sports, ESPN, ESPN 2, FSN, and Css.

It won't be long now!!!!!!!!!!! I think most of us can agree the best shows are the informative type rather than the "sell me a piece of crap type."
I really like "The Hunt for Big Fish with Larry Dahlberg" on Versus. I really enjoy watching massive fish from all over the world. On a technical note, that guy is an amazing caster. He has pinpoint accuracy with all of his equipment.
I enjoy shows that teach you to fish instead of the ones that you just sit there and watch them catch fish.
There are some shows that are informative, but tries to sell their products every 5 minutesit gets annoying. Shows like Fishing with Roland Martin for instance.
I think they TV networks are doing it all wrong they need to have the fishiong shows on during hunting season and the hunting on during the spring thru fall. In the spring I am fishing not watching tv and in the winter Illnois winters are not good for keeping open water and I need my fix. I don't hunt but if I did i would want (i think) to see hunting shows prior to pulling the trigger time. just my 2 cents worth...

good point! when its nice out i dont wanna be stuck indoors watching tv nor do i wanna miss my shows if im fishing or at car shows, and or drag races.. my solution was to get a dvr so i dont miss anything and i can watch it when i want also by passing the commercials. also i would vote to have more fishing in the winter when we need the fix the most.

If you remember it, and watched it with your parents, you've got to be around my age, 67. I seem to recall it being broadcast prior to or after American Sportsman too.
Ahhhh, those were the good old days. In a tackle shop, you could check out the available selection of lures in about ten minutes. Now, it would take more than 10 hours to peruse the selection of stuff at Bass Pro Shop, and Cabelas too, I would imagine.
I think most of the fishing shows start up next Saturday 1/2/09 Cant wait to get my favorite shows back like Day On The Lake, Bass Pros, Worlds Greatest Fishing Show! ;D
At 9 am I watched BassMasters on ESPN2, and between 12 noon and 2 pm I watched two Bill Dance and two Roland Martin shows on Versus. It's raining, so I really enjoyed the shows.
