Treble In Finger 2024

Anyone of you guys ever get a Treble in your finger? Ouch it kinda hurt, especially when i pulled it out. And i wasnt even fishing, i was taking theese plastic guards off the hooks. LOL.

Happen to me a few weeks ago. Went in past the barb. Now thats an OUCH. Pulling it out and feeling the meat rip really sucked.

Two or three years ago I caught a 5 inch smallmouth on an Excalibur lipless crank. I couldnt get a good grip on the little fish so i grabbed the lure, and as I did that the fish shook and wiggled all over the place. the hook flipped up and caught me at the base of my thumb and went all the way in up to the hook bend. It didn't hurt to bad going in, but after messing with it for about 15 minutes I decided it would be easiest to go have a doctor give me a shot of novicane and pull it out. I still remeber walking into the imediate care center and the lady at the front desk asked what my problem was, I held up my hand with the whole lipless crank hanging from my thumb and she kinda smirked. I ended up putting new hooks on the lure and fishing it until i finally hung it up pretty bad and broke it off.

That does suck. I was fishing with a friend from the bank and had my half grown mutt with me. My friend wasn't paying attention with his jerkbait hanging in the air. My dog saw it and grabbed it out of the air and got hooked in the top lip. I caught him by the collar and tried to hold him between my legs to hold him still so the bait wouldn't hook him anywhere else. He was pretty good sized even as a puppy so when he dug his back legs in and squirmed backwards I couldn't hold him. I tried though and was rewarded when the front hook of the bait sunk into my index finger. So I was hooked on the same bait my dog was on who was freaking out trying to run away and tearing at the hook in my finger. Thankfully I was able to tackle my dog and lay on top of him to hold him down and got the front hook removed from the bait so I was at least not stuck to him anymore. The hook was easy to get out of him, just cut the hook and pulled it back out. I wasn't so lucky, I got to go to the emergency room and get mine pulled out!

weird, just last week i was fishing with a new luckycraft my dad had picked up for me.it got tangled in some branches and i snapped the line. so i went swimming! ( i had made about 6 casts with the lure and even caught a bass, no way i was letting that woodpile take my crank) i eventually got the lure out and when i went to exchange the lure between hands...yeah. the hook went in kinda funny. it started at the end of my thumb nail out towards the tip ofmy thumb. it was well past the barb. ouuuch, my dad wanted to rip it out of me as fast as he could...I politely said no thank you 
(there may have been a few curse words here or there 
. ) after about 15 minutes of staring at it with minimal wiggling i figured out that if i twisted the hook completely around it should have enough room for the barb to slide out. thakfully it worked and i didnt suffer too much 
Note: i am considering to switching to barbless hooks

Never had it go in that deep. I was trying to get a nightcrawler off the treble there was tension in the line so it was pulling into my pinky as the rod flexed. It had got stuck the more I tried to release tension the further it sank in. I had to very slowly find a way to loosen the treble pulling into my pinky it was like I was in a trap. I was sitting in a kayak so I had to put my reel in the water to afford the extra space. It was a #8 treble and there were two hooks in there but I'll learn to respect the hook more next time.

That's the funniest "getting hooked" story I've ever heard - got tears in my eyes reading it to my wife now she is laughing hysterically.
Just like the best way to guarantee it won't rain on a fishing trip is to not forget your rain gear - every since I started carrying a hook removal kit with lidocaine in it several years ago - neither I nor my fishing partners have been hooked. Not complaining mind you - just odd.

My buddy just had that happen a couple weeks ago. He caught a pickeral on a crank and as he was unhooking it , it thrashed about and hooked him in the finger. It went all the way through so I cut the barb and yanked it out for him. We fished the rest of the evening . I did make a small first-aid kit for in my boat now.

I've been hooked twice, one just above my knee and the other (a musky treble, in two of my fingers).
The one in my knee wasn't too bad, had to push it through and cut it off. The other wasn't as easy. Tried removing a hook from the from a 45" musky and just as I touched the hook, the musky kicked its head up and drove two of the points of the rear treble hook in my pointer and middle finger while the front hook was still attached to the musky. Finally got some help and had to go to the hospital to get the hook removed.

wow, this is weird. took my youngest grandson for his first big fish trip on the Mississippi river at La Crosse Wi. last weekend. on our last day he was trying to remove a crankbait from a small no. pike. the fish shook and drove a hook deep into his finger. could'nt get it out and his father took him to the local hospital. the part that sucked was it was my fish. he just wanted to help grampa out. we decided to just go home even tho he wanted to go back on the water.

OK, nearly everyone wears sunglasses during the day, but unless you wear prescription lenses, how many of you wear clear safety glasses after sundown? Not many right? So bear this in mind: HOOKS IN THE EYE! It happens! I've had lures hit me in the chest, head, back, etc on the rebound after a hook set or a thrown lure by a fish or a false cast fly casting. PLEASE wear clear safety glasses when you are not wearing sun glasses or risk horrible injury!

At boat shows, Bill Dance used to stick a hook into his finger so he could demostrate how to remove it using a piece of strong line. He made it look easy! Now he is selling a tool do do the same thing!
The first thing you need to do is separate the hook from the lure or the bait... especially if you are hooked to one end of a lure and a 6 lb bass is on the other! Trust me on that! BTW I have also had the same situation as above. I took the grandkids catfishing. We were using chicken livers on treble hooks and one of the kids laid his rod down with the bait laying on the ground. Dogs like chicken livers too! It was a mell of a hess. Then take a stiff shot of VOL (very old loudmouth), close your eyes, and jerk the freaking hook out with a pair of vise grips. All humor aside, a hook in things like eyes, testicles, etc. is serious stuff and warrants a visit to the ER.

Finger? A smallie flopped around in the boat this morning, and drove a treble into my big toe. That was in the first ten minutes of a tournament. I ripped it out, and kept fishing for 2nd place.

Sometimes you can pull it out or push it thru and cut the barb, other times a doctor has to do it. I've been on both sides.

I stepped on a hook while snook fishing on my grandparents dock when I was 14. Didn't quite know what to do so I pushed and turned the hook out till the barb was exposed and cut it off with diagonal cutters, then backed out the hook shank.. Wasn't easy to do, took two hands to cut off the hook end. I now carry compound cutters in my tackle box. They work like mini bolt cutters and can easily cut any hook with one hand. About $12 at Lowe's. Some hook removal can't be done the stout string method, that's where these come in, especially if you're fishing alone!
Oh yes, I caught a nice 10 pound snook about 15 minutes later, that blood was good chum!

Pretty brutal stories guys. I was fishing this last Saturday with my brother and he kept refusing to wear the polarized sunglasses I had brought for him to wear because he dislikes any glasses. Well I keep my own 24/7 while fishing because I have a fear of a hook in the eye. Well sure enough he got hung up and finally popped it free and it came flying back and drilled me directly in the right lense. I truly believe if I didn't have the glasses on I may have lost that eye or done some serious damage. Needless to say, he immeditately took my advice and kept his glasses on.

My nephew hooked me through my hat and into my scalp past the barb. A fishing buddy had to push it through to get it out. It was either that or walk back to the car 1.5 miles then go to the hospital. It all worked out in the end.. I kept fishing afterwards.

Been there...done that.
Had to have treble hook removed surgically.
Two months ago while working on some baits I jamed a treble hook in the meath part of my hand behnd the thumb.
Got some ice and deadened the area and pulled it out.
Easier than going to the doctor again.

I got a treble stuck on the back of my hand, the bass was still attached and flipped around enough until the barb become caught under the tendon of my middle finger. tried cutting the skin open to pull it out, pushing it out, nothing worked. I ended up at the hospital with a heddon torpedo attached to the back of my hand.

About ten years ago, fishing the back of the boat, buddy rears back with a bomber model-a and catches me solid in the side of the neck after the back swing. Only one treble caught but that sucker was BURIED. Did the line trick and the hook popped right out. I swear I can still feel it when I think about it.

if I EVER get a hook in the testicles I will give up fishing that is just scary right there!

One of my dads friends was fishing the delta and he caught a little 12 inch striper on a spook and when he was trying to unhook it the fish slipped from his hands and the treble hooked into his thigh with the little striper still attached to it shaking everywhere

At the last Roadtrip in KY I was retying an owner slider when my fishing buddy made a cast and his lure caught my line and drove the slider into my thumb. Went to a "walk in ER" and they couldn't remove it. Went to the local hospital and they finally got it out. Fished the next day with no problems, just needed a little help removing hooks from the bass I was catching. You don't realize how much you need those thumbs until you can't use one. An aside, I got a E.O.B. from my insurance co. The KY hospital charged almost $600 to remove that hook. LOL

I had a hook in almost the identical spot as Alpster, Delray Hospital charged me $1140 by the time all the charges were totaled up.
I was in Bourbon County Hospital in Paris Ky for 4 or 5 days, 1964, my portion of the bill $0.25 (name tag on wrist, no tv's in that hospital) , my how things have changed.

I was holding an old lure kind of examining it while sitting on my couch and it slipped and the one hook on it went right into my thigh. Luckily I just pulled it out with zero pain.

I've had a number of hooks in past the barb in various parts of the body. Will relate two.
One was a Jitterbug ripped off a Lillypad that went thru my eyelid from the inside out. A simple fix. Because the the barb was thru it was just a matter of cutting off the end of the hook and backing it out. A close and scary situation.
The other was a trout fishing excursion to the desert streams of eastern Oregon. A similar jerk on a Mepps spinner buried it to the shank in the middle of my chin. Fussed with it a while and decided I needed medical help. We had been camping for a week, were filthy dirty, I had a full beard and it was 70 miles to the closest clinic. I walked in and the receptionist asked if she could help. I said, "well, I've got this here fish lure stuck in my chin." She laughed and said, "I didn't know. I thought maybe it was supposed to be there".

I used to brag to any one that ever told me about getting stuck past the barb that in 20+ years of fishng I have never been. Well thats all changed, I hav ehad it happen twice now in the last 2 years. Both time envolved pike though, a bass has still yet to get me. Last year I was reaching into the net to grab a small pike that got my crankbait, he flopped just so, and the next thing you know I have the one point of a #4 treble past the barb UNDER a my thumb nail. That stung.........yeah just a little. Bit down on my shirt collar and gave it a fast tug. That thing hurt for a month.
Then this year another pike got me, same thumb, this time in the meat, with a #2 treble past the barb, same deal, bite down and pull hard and fast. Bled for a bit, but wasn't as painfull as the other time.

Never had one in the hand until I was 18... Same deal for me, Throwing a tiny bomber Fat A crankbait and caught a 7 inch bass, the fish flopped perfectly driving the treble into my thumb... After a long boat ride home and a trip to the E.R. and almost watching my friend pass out from a little blood, they got it out and we went back out fishing. I went 6 years without getting another hook in the hand until last year... Crankbait, flop, wham.... I just used a little alcohol to deaden the pain and yanked it out... And to the pictures that were posted on here, Im ordering sunglasses as we speak.... Yikes...

Happened to my buddy. Trolling for walleye, had one in the net trying to unhook, it flopped around and the treble got stuck in his thumb.
He cut it off and went to the ER to have them remove the barb.
