What Time Of The Day Is More Productive To You? 2024

fishing user avatarJazzPipes reply :

Hello,

I was wondering, what time of the day do you guys catch more fish?

For me is usually during sunset of the first 2 hours of light.

best

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Always crack of dawn + about 3-4 hours until the sun comes up and it starts to get hot.  I don't go out too often when the sun starts to go down, usually at home winding down with the TV or something.

fishing user avatarjlperkins reply :

I like the evening last hour before dark, and sometines for another hour or so

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

edit: Boy, I don't retain what I read very well at times.

Evening right before dark except when it's cold.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I guess I catch more fish in the morning but it seems like when the sun comes out and things start to slow down I also start to slow down and be more methodical and I catch bigger fish... Just my theory...

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

It really depends on the day for me. I feel most confident during the low light hours, but I've had days where it picked up as the sun came up even in the summer or days they bit all day long.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

I catch fish all day long.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

The best time is any time I can go! ;)

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

The biggest bass are caught between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM

fishing user avatarJigMe reply :

Right before sun comes up is my most productive time of the day in the summer. During spring and fall, I catch most of my Bass around 10am-1pm then bite turns off for few hours before picks back up before sunset.

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

It varies, but I'm an early morning kind of guy.  I'm at the ramp at least an hour before daylight, which is before the official sunrise.  I like it when there is a mist hanging over the water, and maybe a sprinkle or shower.  On ponds with pleasure/recreational boaters, they are usually just starting to get on the water between nine and ten o'clock.  That means I've had four to five hours of undisturbed fishing.

But, I'll also get out in the middle of the day if the spirit moves me.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

I catch the most and largest between 10 AM and 2 PM any time of year.

fishing user avatarBaitMonkey1984 reply :

Depends on the time of the year. In the fall, I do my best around 11-3 when the water has a chance to heat up. Same in the fall. In the summer, I do best early morning till 1 hr after sunrise.

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

I adjust my fishing to the time of day I can go and catch fish. Before I learned to adjust my fishing it was always dawn or dusk. Now I am a hunter of fish thanks in part to some of the things I've learned here.

So true for me!!!!  I would say my top ten best fish would be in this time period.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

I have caught a lot of giant bass, every one of those during low light periods. I don't sight fish for bed fish so bright overhead sunlight is a disadvantage. Never caught a giant bass ( bass over 15 lbs.) at night, lots of 8 lb to 12 lb at night. I have caught a few big swimbait bass during mid day with bright clear skies, not many.

Dawn up to about 3 hrs has been my most productive time period followed the hour before dusk, mid day is productive for numbers of bass between 2 lbs to 5 lbs., unless it's low light do to light rain.

Texas Share A Lunker program disagrees with 10 am to 2 pm

WRB I have several friends with multiple 15# plus bass who only fish nights.

How most productive time of day became about double digit bass is beyound me.

So are we talking numbers or size?

Catt, I believe the majority of giant bass are bed fish, high over head sun allows these anglers to see bed fish.

I think the number would be similar in CA if the state had a descent trophy bass program that kept tract of statistics, we don't.

Yes, I agree more numbers of bass are caught mid day.

I only know of a few 15 lb + caught at night during tournaments in our local lakes, don't know why? I haven't been able to catch giants at night, dawn and dusk has been good to me. It's all about timing, night should be better than day, bass can't see lures as good in low light, it's been great for numbers of big bass however, as you well know.

Put a 15+ in the boat soon!

I agree. I seem to get better numbers around dusk and dawn and a larger average from 11-6ish.

Also, Go CUBS!

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

WRB I have a group of freinds from California, Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, & Florida. They have caught dozens of bass from 15-19 lbs, never bed fish, & almost all night fish only.

As far when is the best time to catch double digit bass depends on the angler. My friends who mainly fish nights catch DDs at night while my friends who day fish catch DDs during the day.

To address the 10-2 time frame more anglers are on the water during this time frame than any other which might account for some thing.

I agree. No matter how early I go out, I don't get much of anything until after 10 am.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

My biggest fish are usually in that 10-2 window, but I catch more in the morning than any other time. Night time is really good during the heat of the summer.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

Right before dark the shallow easy bite picks up . Cloudy days that bite can  be great all day . The deep bite can be good all day too. I've really evolved into a crankbait fisherman the past few years and catch a lot of  10 to 15 foot bass during mid day hours .

I think that is a very good point.  Two events can be correlated, and still, no cause and effect may exist between the two.  Other extenuating factors have to be analyzed as well.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Southern California's public lakes are rarely open for night fishing, hours average from opening 6 A to closing 1 hour before sundown, no later than 7P. The exceptions are a 1/2 dozen or so night summer tournaments. A few Nor Cal lakes and the Delta are open 24-7. Living in SoCal legal night fishing is very limited.

Tom

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

According to my sources lakes; Casitas, Castaic, Perris, Piru, San Vicente are just a few, I can add more along with northern lakes

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

In the civilized South, lakes and rivers are open 24/7/365. I cannot substantiate the numbers statistically,

but for me, +/- noon is golden! As for night time fishing, the night is for drinkin' and it ends for me about

when the sun goes down anyhow.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

For me, its right before or as the sun comes up. During summer, its long after dark.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

About five minutes before I arrive or 5 minutes after I leave.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

First.

Early morning before first light, it's still dark. First from dark, thru twilight, till dawn. The bait fishes eyes take longer to change from the dark conditions to the lighter conditions. The basses eyes adjust quicker to the change in light. Thus they feed. The bass are near the shoreline feeding on baitfish, eels, lizzards. Then the bass move to deeper cover.

Second,

11:00/1:00 noon time feeding. The plants give off plankton which the Baitfish feed on. The Baitfish come out to feed the bass feed on them.

Third,

As evening approaches the bass leave deeper cover to feed at the shoreline. Again the bait fishes eyes are slow to change the bass feed. Till dark.

I been told once these pressured places get quiet the bass turn on around 10pm again. I never tried it. I'm in bed by 8pm to get up at 3:30am to fish.

My PB 10lbs was caught at 4:30/5:00am. I switched from evening fishing to am fishing because of the pressure at one place. Nothing is out there but the bass and me.

I find in the evening as it becomes twilight change from natural color baits to a brighter color baits till it gets dark. I find the chartruese color will land a few more bass.

The bass bite didn't shut down they can't see your bait color.

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

During the warm south Florida summer days, its during low light conditions.  The first 3 hours and the last 3 hours before dark.  They just seem more willing to bite.

During the cooler months the bite will last longer and will actually get better as the sun rises.   On bright days they will seek out shade and get tight to cover, its their substitute for sunglasses. :cool-045:

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I catch ALL of my fish between 6am and 9pm, except for the days I am not fishing. When I am fishing, I am sleeping, or driving to/from the lake the other 8 hours.

fishing user avatarBass newb reply :

Almost all of mine come 6-8pm. I fish from 3pm to 9pm most often.

fishing user avatarHoosierHawgs reply :

Depends on a number of conditions. I go fishing whenever I have the time, because that tine is scarce these days, and may not always be optimal. I dint have a specific time of day, but optimally I'm fishing in slightly overcast conditions with some wind and maybe rain, ideally not fishing with a bright shining sun. But like I said, I fish whenever I can.

fishing user avatarJazzPipes reply :

Thanks for the reports guys! helped a lot!
