I Watch Bill Dance. 2024

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

Everytime I do it really, really makes me want to go out and fish. Like him or not.....he has a good program. Lots of info presented in an informative and captivating and professional manner. The new I-Phone/Pad App is really well done too. I've learned as much about bass fishing from ole Bill as probably any other angler on TV. Just sayin'.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

My name is Darren, and I like Bill Dance, too.

Edit: I thought this was a 12-step post... LOL.  :eyebrows:

No really. I will watch most of the fishing shows on NBC Sports. Bill is a nice guy, a fine teacher.

Now Charlie Moore? I have no idea why that show is on TV.

He is hit or miss for me.  Guess I just have to be in the mood for ol Bill.

I have a fishing buddy that keeps swearing to wear a Tennessee hat and throw a Dancing Eel all day long.

I politely informed him to also bring his swim trunks if those two things were to occur.

I would like his show better if he fished in public waters.

Or....

I would like him to invite me to fish those Florida sulphur pits with him. I can wear headphones and listen to music. LOL

fishing user avatarJellyMan reply :

I have him DVR'd because hey, it's fishing. I can put it on before bed time. I really enjoy "Bass 2 Billfish".

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I like his shows, but more importantly, Bill is a great guy in real life.

The local guys here in Memphis see him quite often at local BPS

events, just hangin' at the store and occassionally on the Tennessee

or Mississippi River!

The man is engaging. A short conversation and you would think you

were his best friend and someone you have known forever. And yep,

I have the autographed hat, too!

This thread started out like a confessional.

I enjoy his shows.  I don't care if he fishes in private ponds or not.  I would guess if you had access to them, you'd fish them too.  I know I would.

It's a matter of being practical.  He can record a show in a few hours, rather than having to fish all day so viewers can see him catch ten or a dozen nice fish.

fishing user avatarrmcguirk reply :

I enjoy him and most other fishing shows, each for their different characters (though I agree with the Charlie Moore comment).  But, it does rankle a bit that they only show him catching pigs.  I know that he's fishing private waters and that there are a lot of nice fish in well-managed ponds, but he's got to catch a dink every now and again, doesn't he?  Just show it every once in a while to keep it real (realer?).

He's also a bit worse than the others about pushing particular products.  But, as with all fishing shows, I just listed to the type of bait, presentation and conditions and go from there to see if something like that would work on my waters.

Totally agree on the Charlie Moore comment. If I wanted to watch people sit around eating dinner and drinking wine I'd watch the food network, not a fishing show. His old show wasn't too bad. If I remember correctly it was called Beat Charlie Moore. People would write in to the show and invite him to fish their local waters. He would show up and they would have an informal little fishing contest. I think you won some kind of prize if you out fished him.

fishing user avatarwakeeater reply :

i've posted before about Bill Dance and his interaction with my 2 sons.  he was at a fishing show here in knoxville.  we waited in line for @ 45 minutes for a picture with him.  i thought he'd take the pic with my boys & send us on our way.  i was pleasantly surprised when he spent about 10 minutes talking & joking with them (they were 6 & 8).  they ate it up.  that is why i think he is truly a class act.  he is the epitome of what pro athletes should be.  i enjoy his show as well, & dvr it.  we could use a lot more people like Mr. Dance.

plus he wears a UT hat, & that makes him badass!

fishing user avatarTraveler2586 reply :

I'll give Bill my vote too.  Is it possible? I think I've been watching him for three decades???  OMG

His show is a nice way to kick back and unwind.  Like his music too.....

My name is bassguytom and I watch Bill Dance. It's been 30 days straight of watching Bill. That is funny.nyou guys that know Bill W. know what I'm talking about.

fishing user avatarOldplug reply :

Bill Dance strikes me as as a good salesman. He seems to have a natural nice disposition. That and his fishing is the reason he is one if the very few who have really gotten rich off of sports fishing. Buying fame and fortune in the bass fishing sport is very fleeting.

As far as him catching fish on private lakes etc just remember he is catching fish. Not everyone can do that even on private lakes. I am very certain he has very good grounding in general fishing in general. The best fisherman I know all have that.

fishing user avatarRoachDad reply :

I like his show but I can't take it as seriously as a show on a lake.  Pond fishing is just easier.  I would absolutely fish there if it was me.  But if you want to convince me that you are a really good fisherman with a really good technique, I don't want to see you on a stocked farm pond where a little kid can catch a 5 lber.

I do find him informational.  I've seen him give small talks and I find them very interesting.

Hank is one good individual, I can't say enough good things about him, and Bill.  These guys are icons of the sport along with Jimmy H., KVD, Roland, and the others.  I'm sure they'll be in the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame when it opens, both in person & as notables on display.

fishing user avatarSuskyDude reply :

Put me down as a fan. I could care less about how he fishes stocked private ponds. I'd watch him catch bass from a swimming pool if it was on TV, he's just that likable.

I wouldn't mind seeing him stop cranking on the lower jaws of the fish he catches, however. Still not as bad as watching guys like Ike bouncing fish off the deck, shaking them around while screaming in their faces.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I've been enjoying his show for some time now.

But I always want to yell "Look Out" right before he takes his knee out on that trailer hitch.

Little kid? Do not underestimate the ability of a little kid we have some around here do very well for themselves and have not reached junior HS yet.

Ya, It's one in a chain of three; why, you fish it?  Don't think I've ever seen anyone fishing there.  The pond to the north (in the town homes) was good back in the 70's when we had a gun range there and it was all undisturbed woods.

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

I like Bill and I like to watch the show every once in a while.  But I won't be buying any lures based on Bill catching hogs on them in his private pond.

Bill has one episode I saw where the camera was panning around and just for a second you could see his auto-feeder on the bank not far from where he was fishing.   But that's OK, the old man could use some help from time to time.

Every now and then he gets out to some "real" fish'n holes :)

fishing user avatarOldplug reply :

Well say what you want about Dance. But he is still a nice fella. When you See any of these guys out there catching big bass on one of the big reservoirs or lakes do not be to sure of what your seeing. About 15 yrs ago when he was the rage Rolland Martin filmed a show on Truman Reservoir here in Missouri. He had a boat that had some really big bass in a large live well. Out of camera range of course. Mr slick would cast his lure to that boat and someone in there was hooking on a bass for him to reel in. There was a big thing in the locale papers at that time about it. Two people still fishing watched him for several minutes before they were discovered. Roland Martin turns my stomach about every other word is some sales pressure about one thing or another. I would not believe a word he says nor would I buy anything he is trying to push. What he done is far worse than fishing in a private pond. as far as I am concerned it was plain fraud.

I relocated some bigguns in there  from a nearby pond after a guy posted pics on another site and guys started coming from DE.

I used fish the one down the hill from the Sears Automotive at night.  Nice fish in there at the time.
