No, I will not send you my stuff! 2024

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

After my column this week (which must have been misunderstood by many readers), I have been bombarded by emails asking for free tackle.

To help reduce the number of emails that I am getting asking for my fishing tackle, I am making a blanket statement.

NO, I will not send you my fishing tackle.

Please do not send me emails with hard luck stories, guilt trips or anything like that because it is not going to help. My tackle is going to stay with me, period.

In my column I did not say that I had to much tackle. What I said was having it all in the boat at the same time can lead to organization and selection problems.

Here is my column from this week.

Take Care,

JT Bagwell

fishing user avatarNick_Barr reply :

How many people asked you JT?

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

I didn't count the emails, but it was a lot.

fishing user avatarSkeeter6598 reply :

I'm glad I didn't send you no email! I thought about it after reading the article just to rib you a little bit but nothing serious! LOL!

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

It has just annoyed me with all of the...

"help the kids, send me your stuff"

"if you have a heart, you will send me free stuff"

"I am poor, send me free stuff"

It's pretty crazy.

JT Bagwell

fishing user avatarSkeeter6598 reply :

Yeah that would be nerve racking!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I don't want any short sticks. GLX new in the tube or slightly used, 7 ft only. Stella FA if they're '04s, otherwise FBs only, make sure they have new line spooled up to about 1/16th inch from the rim. Diiachi ITT X-Points or Gammies but #3, #4 or #5 EWG only (make sure the packs are full, I don't want partials).

Send it Fed-X, early delivery so it gets here fresh.

Thanks, RW

fishing user avatargamblerOH reply :

Hey roadwarrior, You had better spool the reels after you get them. I dont think JT uses yo-zuri line. Or be sure to tell JT that you only use yo-zuri hybird and you will be needing it in 8lb test.....LOL

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

4 lb Hybrid on the Stella and it holds about 240 yds!

fishing user avatarLunkerGuy reply :

Always somebody, huh JT? Did you say you need help lightening the load in your boat? Let us know..lol. The dog and wife thing is funny. "My mom is sick"?....Not so sure about that one! ::)..Maybe we'll leave that one out of the song!?  Overall though I like Ceph's version the best. fishing user avatarDanarchy reply :

Getting back to the topic at hand...

Alright JT, I seem to have the same problem with sacks of soft plasticbaits. I think you have a good point about selecting certain baits and leaving the ones that you probably won't use back at HQ. My question for you is how do you store/organize so many bags of plastic? It seems that no matter how big of a tackle box I have, I quickly stuff all of the droors to point that they barely shut. I've seen the zip-up binder style "booklets" for storing plastics, but I think I would need at least twenty of them. Any tips for keeping bags 'o' plastic in order?

fishing user avatarTitleman reply :

Danarchy, HHWP here. I use the clear  plastic "shoe boxes" I found at W-Mart. They're in the section where they have alot of plastic containers with lids. I put my plastics in size and color order and label the "box" accordingly. When I go, I take only the ones I will probably use. Works great for me. I have too many to take every outing and it limits my time fishing  with so much to choose from. Like I said, it works for me. Fish-on.

fishing user avatarcgs2004 reply :

I've had good luck by doing 2 things:

1) Put the plastics you know will produce in your tackle box. My tackle box holds 6 plastic boxes. 2 of which are for plastics. 1 labeled "worms" that holds all plastics that are shaped long and narrow such as worms, slugos, senkos, and so on. 2nd on labeled "soft plastics" which holds creatures, tubes, and all the other stuff beween.

2) bring along a tackle binder that holds the plastics I might possibly use but somewhat doubtful.

Very rarely have I ever had to break into the binder but just for reassurance it's always there and by puting those baits in the binder it has really organized my tackle box and made it much easier to locate the baits I need when the time calls for it.

fishing user avatarabelfisher reply :

Oh, come on JT.  Just send me your stuff that is over a month old.  I will even pay for the postage! ;D

fishing user avatarscbassin reply :

JT- I read & understood what you were saying . I went & did the same thing. I have probley lower my boats total weight by 75 to 100 lbs. No one has ask me for anything But I did find 3 cans of Beenie Wennie's dated 10/95 if anyone wants them send a self addressed stamped envelope & I'll send them to ya.

fishing user avatarJohn Cullum reply :

I have a 10 Tupperware bins that are 7.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches long. They are wide enough to fit most kinds of soft plastics bags in. You place them in the bins like they hang form the hooks at the store. The bins will fit around 20 bags and they are standing up so the labels are easy to read. When your looking for a soft plastic you can easily find them. I put Senkos in one, lizards,Norries Bugs in another and so on. I can fit 6 bins full of soft plastics under my rod organizer. I don't even put the lids back on they stay in the bins even in rough water. Most of the water I fish I've fished before so I will take the bins out of the boat and re-fill them with the types of soft plastics I will be useing. After the tourney/pre-fishing I will re-fill them again for the next lake. Most of the water I fish is stained so there are some bins that stay in the boat almost all year. I keep all my "extra"bags of soft plastics in a dress with like kind in each drawer. So far it's the fastest most organized way I found.

WOW!  I bet no one else has thought of using ladies' wear for tackle storage ;D

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

LOL @ lures stored in a dress  :o

I keep my soft plastics in their original packages. A lot of times I will consolidate and place like colors in the same bag. Then I just put them in one section of my tackle compartment in my boat.

I do have a couple of tackle organizers I might try out.

JT Bagwell

fishing user avatarSnag reply :

John, do you have a picture of the tupperware containers you use or where you got them? Sounds like a good thing.

Later,

Snag

fishing user avatarflippnfish reply :

Cheap and easy way to store plastics. Gallon ziploc bags. You can put 15-25 bags in each one. They save alot more room than plastic boxes. I also keep a shoe box with everything I will need that day. If you don't know what to do when you get to a tournament, 9 times out of 10 your just throwing away your money.

fishing user avatarJohn Cullum reply :

By keeping them in a "dress"er nobody ever wants to borrow them and they never ask if I'll send them any.

I'll take a picture and try to post it. I got them from WalMart. I think I paid a buck something a piece.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes, we are crazy, but loveable!

fishing user avatarCephkiller reply :

Sorry, John Cullum.  I knew you meant dresser, but I just couldn't resist the jab.  No hard feelings?

fishing user avatarJohn Cullum reply :

Cephkiller,I thought it was GREAT. When I seen the post earlier I was thinking of all the things to have a type o on. It had me cracking up.

Snag,I didn't get a chance to take a picture. I'll be on the lake tomorrow so I'll take it then and send it to you.
