Just a question I've been thinking about, given ordinary average conditions and some good solid time on the water, how many fish does it take you to boat to feel that you've had a good day on the water? Obviously this will range from newbs to you vets but not being that experienced I'd say 5+ makes me feel like I did something right. Then again the day of my personal best it was the only one I caught but still walked away satisfied.
To be honest, it's a good day anytime I get out. Catching is just a bonus! 8-)
It just takes one....but size DOES matter
I expect nothing so anything that happens is "in the black"
i agree w/ fatboy. if im out there all day and catch 1-2 bass over 5lbs then ill be happy. course like buck said any days a good day to be fishing
i have been fishing just about everyday for about a month now...3 dinks and a snagged catfish is all i have come up with...but i just love being out fishing
Any thing above zero is lagniappe
50 is a good day and 100 is a great day.
Good day = Any day!
Great Day= 5 fish or more.
I say 5 good solid fish is a good day. Anything above 5 solid 15-20in fish is an even better day!
Or one or two over 5lbs is always a nice day too!
It all has to do with expectations. If I am hunting big fish and I catch 10 fish and the biggest is 5lbs, I feel like I failed. It would still be fun but I would not be satisfied. Now if I didnt expect any big fish and I was throwing plastics than that same day would be a good day and that same 5lber would be a good fish. Its funny how when you swing on a swimbiat fish and you realize its only 5lbs you instantly are disapointed. Any other technique I am thrilled to catch that 5.
I dont measure a good day by fish. I measure a good day by education. I try to find something new everytime I am out, which is almost everyday. I just feel fotunate to be able to be on the water alot.
One bass over 5 lbs is how I measure a good day, but I maintain the "Fish_Chris" attitude:
"Regardless of how it goes, I am never more than one bite away from a GREAT day!"

LOL. Set the bar low enough and your expectations will always be exceeded!
That's my approach as well. ;D
Just getting out on the water is a good day. It's a great day if I boat a bunch of smallies.

huh? :o
I'll save y'all the trouble of running for your dictionaries:
lagniappe [pronounced LAN-yap] -- a small gift given a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase; broadly : something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure ;D ;D ;D
now that's a $10 word!
1 fish over 5lbs is a great day

Exactly
A GOOD day is anyday on the water
A GREAT day is at least one fish whatever you put your "lunker" rating at. For the lakes I fish I set the bar at about the 4.5 lbs mark
It depends on the day.
Some days, really beautiful days, just being out on the water and feeling the breeze, listening to the birds etc, is great.
Other days, I get antsy and need to catch fish.
Then there are days when I go hunting for bigguns, I may not catch anything but the anticipation of knowing that whatever hits the hud is bound to be a godd fish is exciting.
I confess though, that a fishless day is always at least a little dissapointing.
I need to catch fish before I consider it a good day fishing. The only way I feel good about getting skunked is on those three or four absolutely perfect weather days in the spring. If I'm skunked, I still enjoy myself, but catching fish make puts it over the top.
Any day out on the water is a good day for me. Absolutely love it! But I cannot stand to come home skunked. Just something about it that gets under my skin. It really doesnt matter what size fish as long as I can pull in one I'm happy.

This makes me laugh in the wrong way... I've never caught a 5# fish, my PB is right around 4#, which is a big fish up here. That being said, I also think if I catch one fish its a good day, 3-5 is a great day, and 5+ or a PB would be an epic day.
as long as i catch a bass i'm happy

DIDO!!!!!
For me alot of times it's just getting out,but i even enjoy the day more if i'm catching as well.I've skunked out all winter between this year and last...counting almost 6 months in 6 outings i don't like cold weather much ;D.
I had the tell tale " Bloody Thumb " yesterday, and thats how I judge a good day !!! ;D

AGREED!
That's easy. Any day on the water is a "good" day. One bass over 10 lbs makes it a "great" day. A couple over 10 is a "really" great day. One over 15 is bombastic ! :-)
Honestly, if I were to go out fishing for big fish, and catch 5 or 10, two or three lb'ers, I'd feel pretty much like I had been skunked...... Of course getting skunked is a perfectly normal, and acceptable part of the trophy bass game. I'd WAY rather have a skunked day on the water, than to spend the day at work. Unfortunately, that's where I'm headed right now :-( Next three days on the water though ;-)
Peace,
Fish
A day fishing is, by definition, a good day. Add a few non-dinks, and it's a great day. Add a 5+ to the equation equals an awesome day.

;D ;D I go along with any day I get out is a good day!! :D
Anyday= Nice day
One over 3lbs= Good day
4lb+= Great day
5lb+= Fantastic day
Over 6lbs= New PB!
Boat doesn't leak, rods or reels don't break, I don't drop anything overboard. Catch a few fish. Great Day!

Holy Smokes...you're a tough man to please Ronnie!
I wouldn't mind breaking a couple of rods, if it meant getting a couple of bass in the boat
Roger
While I always expect to catch at least one, any day fishing is a good day. I enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out how to catch'em.

dam you might need another hobby thats way to long not to figure a pattern out ;D
I fish several days a week and have a good time each day (well except for last week when I pulled the boat out and had a hole in it - that day pretty much blew).
The thread title said "How many does it take to be a good day". I don't fish numbers so that question I really can't answer. I have been out and caught 40+ fish in a day that were small...literally I'd move to try and get out of them.
I fish weight - but that's just me. If you want to gauge your fishing day by numbers then that's good too. To me I look for an average of 5 fish - which is the normal tournament limit here - and see what I get. 15 pounds is a so so day. 20 pounds is getting pretty good. Anything above 20 pounds for 5 fish makes a "good" day.

I hear you about that.
Just one, a "Friend" in the boat with me is all it takes for me to have a great day!
Catching fish is just a Bonus!
