Just trying to get to know a little about everyone on BR while I sit here with the worst cabin fever I've ever had.
I was just wondering what you guys like to do almost as much, as much, or even more, than have a good day bass fishing?
If the answer is nothing, I want to know that too.
For me, there's 2.5 things that rival a good day bass fishing.
1. Mogul Skiing on top of fresh powder on a beautiful mountain top.
2. Going far in a big poker tournament.
2.5 The two times a summer I break 80 on the golf course.
How about you guys?
1. Strange
2. Shooting an Elk
3. Big fish in the back country
Mr. Ackwards, to help with your cabin fever, I will respond.
I've been doing this for decades now, I'm getting wore out, my boats's wore out, fishing has ceased to become fun or a hobby for some years now. It's more like a need or job. When the lakes are not frozen , I fish almost every day of the week, all year long except weekends. Many days I get up & want to stay home, but I actually have to force myself to fish. Many days I get out on the water and decide I really don't want to be out there. That said, I've found there are a few other things to replace the fun I used to have when fishing.
I walk about 50 steps out my back door & I'm in state game lands, I can walk a mile in three directions without hittin a road. My own personal 2500 acre hunting ground 24/7. I've started to get more into varmint hunting, there's always something to kill, groundhogs, coyotes, crows & other misfits of the animal world. I'm getting pretty good at turning Groundhogs into a can of soup at some pretty long ranges. It's becoming one of my new sources of fun.
If it's too windy to fish or hunt, I've got a very minty Z06 vette in the garage, I put in a Beach Boys CD & go hit the twistys for a while, and find a new place to eat lunch. I've come to find that's it's as enjoyable as fishing. There's something about hitting Nascar speeds and taking hairpin turns at almost a G that brings a smile to my face.
there you have it, a couple things I enjoy as much as fishing.
1. I can't say on a "family site"
2. Killing big whitetail bucks with a bow and arrow. Such a rush to arrow a big 10 point when he's only 10 yards away especially when you work all year long to do it.
1. A Virginia Tech Football game...Go Hokies
2. A great day bass fishing.
I would have to say that I enjoy playing hockey almost as much.
To answer truthfully...........NO... I love fishing. To me notIf i had to give a few after Bass Fishing
2- Fishing other species ( walleye, musky, sturgeon)
3-Duck hunting
1.BMX racing
2.Playing in my monthly poker tournament
3.Backyard football baseball or basketball
Uh....I can't remember! It's been so long since I've been bass fishing I've forgotten what it's like!
Just about any big game hunting is more fun then bass fishing. The greater the ocomplshment, the more fun I have. Now my biggest bass do rank up there.
1. Cant say on a family site.
2. Poking holes in paper targets at 10-20 yards.
3. Poker.
These are what I enjoy doing when not fishing.
snowboarding on a fresh day of powder in the backcountry. love the mts.
Night in bed
Night on the water
Sometimes the two are combined.
1. Vacation with the kids & family (usually Disney World)
2. Daytrips when the kids don't whine (it hasn't happened yet, but I'm hopeful )
3. Time alone with the Mrs. - Only 14 years to go until the youngest graduates
1 getting to see my grandkids, which i don't get to do that often
2 spending time with my wife and 2 dogs which we fish when we can.
3 getting to spend time with my parents and family.
4 fishing is in the tops too, where i live i don't get to see 1&3 unless i go visit them i don't have a job so i fish a lot.
Well I like bass fishing quite a bit but here are few things almost as good as a good day bass fishing:
- a bad day bass fishing
- crappie fishing
- catfishing
- camping
- hiking
- wood working
- gardening
1. I have a 2004 GTO with a twin turbo set up putting down 642 horsepower to the rear wheels that i love to hit the track with. It became a very expensive habit so i usually only make a few passes. I like to cruise it a lot.
2. I bought a M&P 15-22 rifle this year and got into squirrel hunting.
3. i love to shoot clays, paper targets, or anything that blows up. Something about ripping off a whole magazine of a 9mm that just gets me excited.
nothing come to mind better than a good bassin day
hmmm....
quality time with my 19 month old.
quality time with the misses.
playing a packed bar full of happy drunks at 1.30 in the morning and ripping their heads off with "stranglehold".
saltwater fishing.
a good day with the family bass fishing
Spending time with my Grandson.
Gardening with my wife.
Relaxing with friends and family.
F-Class highpower rifle shooting, Across the course highpower, and some I.D.P.A. pistol shooting. Always center the X.
2 good days of bass fishing! ;D
QuoteI would have to say that I enjoy playing hockey almost as much.
Hockey,skate on winter house leagues.
I also used to race at a local track(Raceway park, Calument pk. il.) had a 1975 monte carlo, now that was fun
runnin from the cops
On a serious note. I am a very lucky man to have the love of a good woman.
I'm a bit of a workout freak. Assorted resistance and cardio training has been a big part of my entire life, personally and professionally. This life style has been a true challenge as I mature 8-) but it helps me feel confident that I can continue to be there for my wife.
My dogs keep me gainfully employed. I'm partial to the Northern Breeds ~ Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes.
I also have a GTO (2006) There is nothing like RWD and some Giddy-up !

I can do almost everything I like to do while bass fishing: drink, smoke, pack a lip, eat, check out the hotties, bs with the guys, and spend time with the kid or kids depending on who's home .
My number 1 passion is Bow hunting whitetails. It's ALL I do when it's season. I'm in the woods 6-8 hours every single day during bow season.
I also love to play one wall big blue handball, it's a NYC sport. I play in football leagues too which I love and one other thing that's up there with bass fishing would be Cliff Jumping. After bow hunting, they are all pretty close.
There are a few things better than bass fishing but I'm so old , they don't count any more.
In order...
1. LSU Football Game and Tailgating.
2. Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
3. Good Day Bass Fishing.
1 Cant say on family site
2 Phish Concerts
3 I cant think of a third
as fun but not necessarily more fun:
snowboarding
camping
kayaking/canoeing
Midget hunting with mallets is always entertaining.
Anything as fun as a good day Bass fishing.........
GOOD DAY CRAPPIE FISHING !
GOOD DAY BLUEGILL FISHING !
Its a good day if youre fishing, period. Weather theyre biting or not.
Nothing gets my blood pumping more than just getting ready the night before a trip. But when I'm backing down the ramp on a cool Spring morning....Loading my gear in the boat, the smell of my hot coffee, the purr of my ole Merc as I pull away, no cellphone, no work today...just me and my ole fishing buddy, Easing out of the slough and opening her up and heading up the Alabama River at dawn...(I know the hair on the back of your neck just stood up huh). Casting my favorite spook, or fluke....twitch....twitch twitch...twitch...BAM ! The water boils, and IT IS ON ...
You cant beat that with a stick my friends.
Its always a fight at times between photography and fishing - fishing wins more of the time, but photography here and there takes 1st - and of course I do both on trips from time to time.
Otherwise, spending a nice relaxing carribean vacation with the wifey at a nice resort, laying out, swimming, reading, and you know what
But fishing in the past 2 years has become my obsession! My first baby is on the way (be here in september) - so there will undoubtedly be more added to my favorites list - hopefully not less of you know what
A good day trap shooting. But thats not even close to as fun as a day when you are on the fish good or just on the water.
Roby
Bowhunting for me. Give me a crisp fall day when the deer are on teh move and that is about as good as it bets next to a good day of fishing.
QuoteMidget hunting with mallets is always entertaining.
Is there a limit?
Yes, Bobby, there is, of course, a slot limit! you can't keep a midget between 3 feet and 3.5 feet inclusive...and don't forget, no metal hammers until May 1.
