Hot temp fishing ????????? 2024

fishing user avatarfisherdave reply :

How is the best way to fish for bass when the temp outside is 100 110 and the water is about 85 to 95 degrees?

fishing user avatarfrogtog reply :

I would personaly try a video game at home, man that is HOT I fished one about three weeks ago and it hit 100. I still caught fish all day, I caught them early on topwater and moved out to the points with a CR about 10 am. I had a towel on my head all day.

fishing user avatarBassinBoy reply :

When its that hot it just isnt fun.  Just fish the hour or two before sunset when its slightly cooler.

fishing user avatarbkoguy07 reply :

I still have fun when its hot, I get my tan on hahahahah that and I move out to deeper water structure and work it throughly with deep diving cranks, plastics and jigs.

fishing user avatarDaniel My Brother reply :

Bass don't seem to like being out in the sun any more than we do. Grass, deep water, and shady spots are where I look for 'em. But finding them can be a chore.

I have the best luck fishing grass on the edge of deep water with a jig or t-rigged soft plastic.

My second choice is a carolina rigged lizard around points.

Third choice is shady areas under overhanging trees.

These all work to some degree, but none are as effective (for me) as fishing the low light times of dawn and dusk...or even night.

Early mornings

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

Nightime, deep, slow down, humps, drops, long points for starters with emphasis on the night time.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Jig or soft plastic, on or around structure, in deeper water.

For big bass, wear a hat and bring some water:

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Yup,  no sunburn either ;D

fishing user avatarBig-O reply :

Deep water structure like humps or points with rocks, timber ledges or old river or creek channels nearby. Jigs, Carolina rig, DD22 cranks, sunscreen, wide brim hat and a wet towel for your neck. Go catch a PB.

Just got back from testing new designs at Lake Falcon and can't fish at night there this time of year due to winds regularly blow much harder at night then less during day causing extreme daytime heat conditions. Caught big fish and alot of them and all in the mid day heat.

Get a couple of these, wear one, keep the other in your cooler, and alternate after a few hours.

So you are saying that the "big bite" is between 10-3???

fishing user avatarRabbit_DTL reply :

Yep.

Fish Chris is even more specific:  11:30 - 12:30 or

"either side of high noon!"

fishing user avatarIdiot4 reply :

did this last week and they were all under thick Lillipads and anywhere there was shade, i ran a buzzbait over top of the lilli's and caught a few big ones.

Im in with everyone else on the night fishing though lol

fishing user avatarMax-in-Mn reply :

I've always had great luck throwing an unweighted plastic worm under docks in super hot weather.

fishing user avatargokart83 reply :

Hey there!

I went fishing with my uncle last week, and it was around 2:30pm. It was almost cloudless, and it was very hot. We had been fishing tight cover, and we had nothing, we decided to move out deeper, around 10' to 12'. We started smoking them on a slow moving plastic, and we landed a couple 3 pounders. Try this out, and also in a cold over-cast day, this worked. I hope I helped. Good luck ;) 8-)

fishing user avatarTin reply :

If I absolutley had to fish in those temps, find a bridge (so you stay cool too) and drop-shot the pillings.

I'll bet that worried some people, haha! :)

fishing user avatarMA_Bass reply :

For night fishing, do you guys changes up your lures or presentation much from what you use during the day? The majority of night fishing that I have done has been with shiners. Based on what I've read in this thread I'm feeling like kind of an idiot!

Clothing: wide brim hat, synthetic shirt with collar, long/baggy synthetic shorts that cover my knees while I sit. I use as little suntan lotion as possible b/c I'm guessing bass don't like the taste of it. EMS sells suntan lotion in a tube that works kind of like a deodorant stick so you don't have to rub it in with your hands.

I'm lucky that my favorite spot is a river that fishes well in the summer, at least once the water level drops. When the water is at its normal level the fish have access to un-fishable marshland. Perfect for little fish to grow. When the water drops everything is forced into the channel. Its a slow-moving river with easily identifiable undercuts so the fishing is incredible through July and August. Yamamoto's, weightless soft plastics and split-shotted soft plastics all work well. It depends on the depth and current. The goal is to go as light as possible.

fishing user avatarbass slayer21 reply :

fish very deep water

fishing user avatarfishingaddict reply :

Living in southern Florida it's hot and humid all the time especially during summer, luckily I have grown mildly accustomed to it.  ;)

I'd suggest, as other members have, going near sunset or if you can't, try to find a shady spot to at least keep the sun off of you.

fishing user avatarsenkos 4 life reply :

on days with that kind of heat, i always go out some time between 6 and 10 in the evening.  when the water starts to cool off, the bass become more active, and they take almost anything you sling at em.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Welcome aboard!

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

I've been told by many old timers to hit the rivers during the hot summers and fish the lakes and ponds during the spring and fall.

But do i listen? Nope I go out at the wee hours of the mornings thats when the bass are on the night shift feeding.

fishing user avatarCracker reply :

You mean to tell me that there are time when it NOT that hot,   :o down here in SW Fl those are the fishin conditions 10 months out of the year! ;D

fishing user avatar502largemouth reply :

MA_bass, you should try the sunscreen in the spraycans now.

Walgreen brand is fine but if you are a brand name junky then Banana Boat makes it too as I am sure others do.

My girlfriend burns easier than anyone I have ever known, she used this walgreen brand in 60spf I think and she went to Ky Kingdom ALL DAY with some friends while I was on a fishing trip.

She didnt burn a bit, so I tried it on my next outing. Only place I burned was a small spot that I happened to miss with the stuff and I was exposed for most if not all of the sunny part of the day.

Stuff works good man, try it, and that should take care of your worries about fish liking the taste of it as you dont get it on your hands since you dont have to rub it in.

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

Hey,

"They" would say early morning or after dusk. That doesn't always fit the average Joe's plan. It's been over 90" for several days here in the Northeast. When I head out, I always make sure I have plenty of water/Gatorade and ice in the cooler, for me and the fish. (the ice not the Gatorade!!) Spray on sunsreen is my new friend. (it looks, well, STRANGE to have you fishing buddy putting sunscreen on ya'!! ;D) I have snacks so my stomach won't get upset, and I fish in the shade alot which leads you right to the fish. A large cup or empty Gatroade jug to cool the deck (and myself) off. And mosty of all, I take it slow and relax; just like laying by the pool.

P.S. 3 lber. at 1:00 p.m. 2 days ago. Hiding right on the edge of the pads, temperature 98" water temp. 84 ". They fish are there in hot weather!!!

Cyas,

Thanks, I'll have to check that out (Wal-Mart brand). I'm a "medium burner" so I usually end up choosing to deal with a mild burn and not risk getting oil on my bait. Good to know that you can get spray too. Sounds like it would be better for the legs and arms. But check out the stuff I mentioned. Its great for putting on your face and other areas where you need to worry about overspray.

fishing user avatarhtfdfire911 reply :

Reciently on a 95 plus day I was out fishing and remember another person mentioning tuff conditions like that and how he said go DEEP!

With that and some recient show on T.V. that I saw talking about DROP SHOT fishing I thought hell...y-not!!

I didnt have the correct hook but I was able to catch 3 fish over 2lbs within a couple hours...That's not great I know but the other boats fishing structure and pads pulled diddly!!

I am thinking that maybe with a proper drop shot hook and a better variety of colors in the drop shot worms I might have got a few more...

But who knows...All I do know was at 35-40 feet the waters alot cooler and thats where the fish will be on those hot days....

1. The spray on sun screen bar none! Rocks! Thanks you wife!

2. I cant buy a fish sometimes is it the heat? They will be nailing bait fish around me but i cant geta bite! Trying numerous top water, cranks, worms jeez! There has been alot of rain lately ?

3. I wish i could brake the habit of wanting to fish visual cover and get out to the deep water any ideas ?

I think that #3 is the answer to #2. After discussing this thread with my 2 best fishin' buddies as well as when we caught fish and where, we reached the conclusion that (at least where we fish) when the weather gets hot, water temperature trumps structure. We've found that once the water gets warm, the bass will leave their traditional grounds and head for the deeper/colder channels. Areas that aren't worth fishing when conditions are ideal.

fishing user avatarBig-O reply :

If narrowed to day and/or night in warm water, I have found these two time frames to provide best results - 10am to 3pm and 10pm to 3am, now go figure........... ;)

fishing user avatarruss0101 reply :

I've caught my biggest fish when it was 95-100 degrees - In South Carolina where the humidity and everything else makes it feel closer to 115 (that is actually worse heat than when I was in Iraq wearing full gear, atleast you could breath there!)

I fish creek beds during this time of year - 5 feet with structure (stumps, logs, etc).. I cast parallel to the shore and sit right on the edge of the creek bed where the ledge drops off from 5-15 feet. I sit in the same spot each time I go and I'm always pulling in bass ranging from 5-10 lbs. People then want to come and fish around me because they are having no luck - I don't mind that though, there's enough fish in there for everyone and I like watching people pull in big fish they are not used to catching. To me, I guess it's all about giving and teaching people where/how to fish on lakes they know nothing about.

fishing user avatarbayoukritter reply :

Just because its hot and you don't catch em back to back, doesn't mean they are not around. Deeper water and cover can provide an oasis for a few sunburnt fish.

But if you still are havin trouble and can't seem to fish just the few cool hours morning and evening dont worry. Autumn is right around the corner.

You can always do a little rain dance and hope for some clouds. ;)

I think im gonna devote next weeks fishing to a C rig and some deep water hunting!
