I fish the cook county forest preserves, i've found there to be alot shad and gizzard shad which can grow to 14". places like Tampier and saganaskee have alot of these which i believe makes those places hard to shore fish.
last year I started using a xrap shallow #8 in blk/gold and started doing much better. hoping to pickup a canoe this spring and figure those lakes out, they hold some big fish

My lures barely resemble what the fish eat.
Don 't get caught in the "match the hatch", lures are meant to catch any predatory fish.
Central Florida
golden shiners, threadfin shad, crayfish, tilapia
The last time I tried to "match-the-hatch" was flyrodding for stream trout with wet Light Cahills

Central PA. Bluegill, trout, shad. It depends on which Lake I go too.
Florida,
shad, golden shiners, brim
I don't believe in matching the hatch for bass. Make a good presentation of a good looking bait and they'll eat it.
California
Crawdads, Shad and TROUT
Mass here and we have a variety of forage species, depending on what you are fishing for. Smelt, crayfish and perch for small mouths; bluegill, perch, shad and anything that moves for largemouths.

I live in the Shenandoah Valley. The main food source for bass around here is bluegill. We also have crayfish, sunnies, crappie in some areas, trout in some areas, frogs, shad in the bigger lakes, blue back herrings, etc. It really depends on what body of water you are on in this area.

Matching the forage is very important if you want to catch fish.
Learn whats in your bodies of waters, along with weather patterns, locations, and stuctures down under, and your success will sky rocket.
Put in the time, and you will be rewarded!!!
Haha...in our city parks..bas have been known to take ducklings, and rodents..

Aloha,
Oahu's one and only freshwater lake... Wahiawa Res.
"Hawaii's Bass Kept Secret"
People dump their aquariums into the lake and we have a wide assortment of small tropical fish that the largemouth and peacock bass feed on.
Our shad are only 1 to 2 inches long, so small lures and flys seem to work best.
St. Lawrence River/Lake Ontario region. Crawfish seem to get the attention of both Largemouths and Smallmouths. If I could only pick one bait it would be a jig the imitates craws.
Central Florida, Largemouth Bass forage is golden shiners,shad,Junebug/red speedworm,bluegill,gold/black rattletrap, small crappie, tilapia and much much more

Table fare includes but may not be limited to crayfish, brown & rainbow trout, yellow perch, assorted pan fish and plenty of juvenile lmb, smb and walleye. As late spring/early summer comes on, I break out the flyrod to get in on a significant mayfly hatch. Some very decent smb come to the top at sunset to gorge themselves. A flyrod is the only way I've been able to get them - but that's not all bad.

I live out on Long island NY, just easta bit from Kennedy Airport.
I fish all over NY, NJ, and CONN, getting an annual fishing license for all three states. I get a a few other short-term fishing licences when I travel to CA, FLA, MO, TX, or other states
Prey will vary from water to water.
I fish seasonal patterns, so my lures and presentations will vary accordily.
Throwing froggin' and rattin' baits is my nirvana !!
