Line and Lure question 2024

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

So having succumbed to the plentiful recommendations and the sale, Ive got one of my big bait rods with 30lb mono all treated and, yeah, memory is completely and utterly gone. Exceptionally limp.

I just wanted to know if line has been break tested with l&l liberally applied.

I am to understand that when mono soaks up water, it becomes weaker. Does line and lure have the same effect? If so, to what degree?

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Bizz, It's my understanding that the water in line & lure is the delivery system. It allows the polymers to penetrate between the line on the spool. It dries quickly. I'm sure Rob will have a more scientific answer.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

I just dont see how it could reduce memory without soaking into the line.

They're magic polymers.

While not scientific, I do have personal experience with the stuff all last year w/ 20lb CXX.

Like you said, considerably more manageable and I didnt experience any breakage or feelings of the line being brittle or weakend in any way.  Not really an explanation, but I know it works.

So every post where people come on and rant and rave about the wonders of the products gets plenty of replies.

But when someone asks an honest question about the performance, they get the run around?

fishing user avatarmattm reply :

Rob, was last online Jan. 31st.  I'm sure he will answer your question when he sees it.

I'm fairly certain that I've heard him state that it soaks into the line.  If I remember correctly that is the entire point of putting it on well in advance.  I'm also pretty sure I've heard them say that it actually makes line stronger by filling in/ attaching to nicks, abrasions and imperfections.

I have a little more than a years experience with 15lb P-Line CXX as well and haven't noticed any breakage issues.

I thought it was a great question, and I'm eagerly awaiting the response as well.  I don't think your getting a lot of replies b/c Rob is the only one that can answer the question.

fishing user avatarPaul Roberts reply :

Well...

Nylon takes on water fairly quickly, so after an hour of fishing or less your line is somewhat weakened anyway.

Do the polymers in L&L make nylon more waterproof? Is that the idea?

Burley,  have you actually tried L&L or are you just skeptical of the technology?  Just wondering b/c based on my experience I can't believe anyone being unhappy with the product.

He was on this morning and yesterday as well.

I'm being patient :)

Oops.  My fault.  I checked his profile before posting that, but looked at last post not last online.  Sorry.  Should of looked closer.

Used it last year, didn't see much of a difference. I find myself pondering the placebo effect when I see the bottle on my desk.

fishing user avatartyrius. reply :

So, you're trying to imply that the relatively minor amount of water that is used to spray line and lure on your line is going to have any measurable effect that would be greater than submersing said line directly in the water?

Bingo.  It can't get 'in' your line without being water based.  Silicone spray just coats your line, but a water based silicone spray can be absorbed.  It works well....

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

My true question being, has line been break tested with and without it. Period.

fishing user avatarSimonSays reply :

good question, never really thought of it...I use L&L alot, I'd like to know the answer to 4bizz's question too

fishing user avatarRob Faddis reply :

Answers:

Line & lure was made to be as environmentally "green" as possible. The water base fits this model very well. It as was stated, allows the active ingredients to flow into the spooled line very evenly. Line & Lure is not a "silicone" preparation.

We have had 4 line mfgs. do break tests on treated vs. untreated line and none have found any line degradation with the use of Line & Lure. 3 indicated that knot strength was improved.

Line & Lure will improve mono's ability to resist water absorption when applied properly (in advance and allowed to dry).

Hope this helps,

Rob

Guys,

You will most likely see me online here all the time as our computers are on 24/7 and one of the systems most likely have the site open.  I check as much as I can.  If you have a time sensitive question do as Roadwarrior suggested and email me.

Thanks,

Rob

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Hey Fourbizz,

I have no idea what is in KVD's Line and Lure Conditioner, but I use it on all lines, with the exception of braid.

If nothing else, it gives me confidence that the line will not fail.

So far, my line has failed for two reasons since I have been using the L&L:

1.  At the hook when I don't retie.

2.  In the line after it gets nicked and torn on structure and cover.

I love finesse fishing into heavy cover and structure and so far the line has performed very will with the L&L on it.

I suggest giving it a try to see how you like it.  :)

fishing user avatarmattm reply :

Sam, it really makes briad keep its color.
