If you do give Rob Smith @ R&S Taxidermy a shout he's in New Milford Connecticut. He's also on FB and the internet, in all it took about 4 months to complete. He sent me a ton of progress pics along the way to make sure I was happy with everything, which was cool.

$16 an inch
That looks great!! Thanks for sharing it.
At my likes limit for the day, so I can't hit that button up there. I like that though. Looks really awesome! I'm new to alot of this still, so how exactly does the replica thing work?
Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
Make room on your wall for more to come.
Congrats!
What a beautiful job! I'm assuming the crappie is still alive, too.
Cool looking.
beautiful mount. wish more people would do this.
Love it. That looks great! Congrats on the PB!

I've never had one done but I believe you measure length and girth and snap some pictures and they order a form the approximate size and work their magic.
It's a talent and an art form all in one. What taxidermist do is absolutely amazing in my eyes. I wish I had the patience to do fish, because I don't think there is anyone around me that does replica fish.
Congrats and thanks for sharing. If you had told us this was a skin mount I would have believed it. That's probably the most realistic replica I've ever seen!!

Thanks for the information!
That came out great!
Very nice! Was this replica based on pictures and measurements or was this the actual fish? For a 6# sure does look nice!
Outstanding mount. Absolutely beautiful. Happy Happy.
Good one!
Nice replica! They are the way to go, they'll last far longer and you won't have to worry about cracking or anything like that. My pb got mounted as a replica as well. Mine only took about 4-6 weeks and when I got the first one it wasn't right. The coloring was washed out, and the mount didn't look like the fish I caught. Fortunately, the company I went through guaranteed satisfaction. I called them up and told them about it and they told me to ship it back and they'd try again. Because my fish was caught prespawn the gut on it was bigger than the average bass of that size so they needed to order a different form and then paint it according to the pictures I had sent. The second one came back perfect and I couldn't be happier.

Replicas are made on fiberglass blanks that are ordered based on length and girth and then the blanks are painted to match the markings of the fish caught. To get one you only need the length, girth, and pictures of the fish which allows you to release the fish to be caught another day. Some say that if it's not a skin mount, it's not the real thing....those aren't the real thing though either since the skin is stretched over a form shaped to fit into the skin and then the skin is painted anyway. Reproductions, are very comparable cost wise as well and usually run just slightly more.

Thanks for the info on that. One of these days I hope to catch me one worthy of being replicated.
Pretty work! Alot of replicas just dont look right IMO. More often on LMB, the color just doesnt "transition" naturally if that makes sense. You can tell some one sprayed paint.
Yours however looks great, and you should be proud congrats!

Most if not all skin mounts are painted too. The skin loses it's natural color and needs to be painted or touched up.

I don't have any plans of stopping any time soon. ?
They did a great job with your Hawg! It will bring up lots of memories for you and your family over the years, and it will around long after your gone. My son already has plans for my personal best, after I'm gone., LoL. It becomes part of the family, a snap shot into the past, along with lots of stories about Grandpa! Enjoy yours, I love mine!
Looks GREAT, Congratulations!
Thanks for all the kind words guys I really appreciate it, wait for the next one!!!
