What Makes You Keep Fishing? 2024

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

soo recently ive felt like i was satisfied with all the over the fishing ive done this srping and summer i actually stopeed going for a week or 2 just bc i felt like iw as doing it too much.. what makes you guys wanna keep fishing.. i mean fishers that wake up at 4 am to go try and get that lunker. any thing you do while shore fishing or on aboat to keep your head on fishing..sometimes my mind wonder and work to fast or i just keep running through all of my baits and not working them effectively..

fishing user avatarRobertBG reply :

first and foremost would be the time spent with a true fishing buddy....................whether we talk or just fish or do both it just makes the time on the water nice.

Second I love searching for that lunker, teaching someone something new and or learning something new myself.

Third and by far not the least important is having time to relax, reflect and think....................hard to find in my world and fishing helps

put these 3 things together in any order on any given day fishing and you have what makes a big part of me a fisherman

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Exploring new waters, getting out with my wifes grabfather or uncle, or just getting away from the wife (lol), testing new equipment, testing myself, clearing my head, and the list goes on.

fishing user avatarmikey5string reply :

5lb plus bass which have thus far eluded me.

Trying new baits/techniques/equipment. Getting outside and away from the rat race, spending time with good people, BSing at the dock with the other guys at the end of the day, watching the sun come up on the lake, being the first/only one out there when it does. Coming up on a perfect spot or a new lake, topwater bites, having a big bass slam a lure right at the boat, getting all my stuff ready the night before, stopping for a nice lunch after eating a granola bar in the previous 8 hours, perfect casts....,

just a few reasons.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

There are so many answers to that question,

My answer would be, self satisfaction, what drives me to keep fishing is a ton of different things, new things that I learn from here, practicing flipping and pitching in the yard, learning new ways to attract a bite and striking out, just being on the water looking for new structure and cover, all the up's and down's that go along with fishing, searching for that one go to bait, it drives me freaking nutts and it gives me a ton of satisfaction all in the same day.

It always ends with the same answer, because it's what I love to do.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

The peace and quiet, the serenity of being outdoors as it turns from day to night, or night to day, the constant anticipation that this cast is going to be "the one".

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

I would have to say that it's my addiction to the pursuit of knowledge. It wasn't always that way for me. It used to be my need for a big fish but I figured out that I catch more big fish when know more about them.

fishing user avatarClint C. reply :

It's just simply what I love to do... To keep my mind on fishing when things are slow I like to imagine exactly what my lure is doing under the water. Try to picture it in my head. that's usually when I get bit too =0)

I never get tired of learning new things and trying to figure out the puzzle!

fishing user avatarUnknownwaters reply :

Honestly I would have to say the puzzle/mysterious aspect of it and the natural beauty of the lake. Everytime I see a lake with fish all I can think about is what could be underwater, were would the fish be sitting, what kind of techniques and lures could work, and so on. I always love picturing were the fish i catch were sitting and what they were doing and why they bite.

fishing user avatar"Lunker Hunter" reply :

1) I want to put a 10lb plus trophy on the wall. By pics and measurements of course would not kill the lunker if at all possible.

2) Fishing with a friend either someone who knows how to fish or someone I can teach.

3) Nature all around me

4) I like being on or near water

And the best reason

5) To get away from the wife..... lol

The fight of the fish!

fishing user avatarprjavelin reply :

the challenge, the anticipation. Ive always felt like the lake was the most peaceful place there was in the whole world. I love that place even when it skunks my to hell and back.

I feel at peace.

fishing user avatarWill Wetline reply :

I go for the challenge of finding and catching fish, but underlying that - and more important - is the opportunity to get away from hassles and obligations and just plain "be there." Makes me smile.

This. I work a very hectic schedule in grueling conditions, and just being out on the water just melts everything else away. No stress, no worrying about this or that, just me, peace and quiet, and me in my own little world. It's therapeutic for me.

Same for me, it's my release from the stresses of everyday life. I forget about everything when I'm on the water. It's just me, my gear, and nature. The challenge in trying to figure the fish out day to day is a big part of it also.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I'v been fishing sense I was 2 my dad would wheel me down by the river with him in the stroller and wed fish I did the same with my oldest boy and will with my youngest too. Bass and pike fishing seems to be in my blood I'v been grounded so many times growing up for skipping school to fish I fished everyday most of my childhood and teenage life and not much has changed not even while deployed iv still found a way to go fishing just not as often.

I think I went so much and still do because I just love being out doors and in nature it calms me down nothing else matters once out there just me and the fish or me and a fishing buddy whether it be my best friend growing up Clay, or my wife, nephew, my sons, or father. Even with all the drama and stress marriage brings when me and the wife go fishing its all behind us even she lets it all go. Fishing is just therapy but cheaper well idk that its cheaper but its definitely therapy. Plus I'm convinced one of the spots I fish holds the NYS record LMB so that helps to lol.

fishing user avatarFishinbyrd reply :

Lot of the reasons already mentioned. But reeling in a big bass that makes my reel go bzzzzzzzz is such a high, I can't find it anywhere else.

fishing user avatarbassfisherjk reply :

Pure enjoyment.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

yeah i love the feelig of bringing in that lunker and see it coming closer and closer to me. nothing like seeing a hawg on the end of your line!!

Besides my kids Big bass are about the only thing that will make me smile I remember getting my PB 3 years ago I not only got it on a topwater then seeing it once it got close I made Ike look like a panzy with how much I freaked out and was grinning from ear to ear for days about it lol

fishing user avatarmoguy1973 reply :

Before we had our daughter 3 months ago I would stop in at a local park near our house 3-4 times a week after work. The small lake inside this park has lots of small blue gill and lots of small 6-8" bass with a few up to 3 lbers I have landed. I didn't care about catching the lunkers but I caught fish probably 90% of the time and that made me happy. I also spent about an hour and a half there and just the calming effect fishing had on me made me forget the previous 10 hours I spent at work and that's really what made it all worth going fishing and kept me stopping just about every night to fish. Relaxation and stress relief couldn't be better.

Now my daughter takes precidence and I can probably count on one hand how many times I've gone fishing since she was born, but I really don't care anymore because the times spent with her far outweigh any fish I can catch. She'll be old enough to fish soon enough and I'll be more than happy to teach her all I know about fishing.

All of this plus the adrenaline rush when you set the hook and it's "whoa, this one ain't no dink!"

fishing user avatarmatt996 reply :

This biggest thing is to still have fun while doing it! #6 test on spinning gear catching 7 pounders and up taking 15 minutes to bring her in!

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

The fish!

fishing user avatarBig-O reply :

I believe that it's only RIGHT that a person should take the time to enjoy SOME OF THIS THING THAT WE CALL LIFE... THAT'S FISHING ;)

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

The next cast, or if you prefer, anticipation.

X2. Especially when im throwing topwater.. i get so anxious sometimes just waiting for the water to break and see that huge bass hit the lure. Love that feeling.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

It's one of the handful of things I don't have a choice on,....If you're blessed to have passions, they aren't something you quantify with words, they are something you exude, live and project as "YOU"

fishing user avatarNoBassPro reply :

It used to be trying to figure the fish out and always going for that next bigger one. Now I just enjoy being able to get out and don't really care what or how big I catch. What I've really enjoyed this summer is being able to take my boy out, I forgot how big 10" bass used to look until I tried to get him to hold one. We're working on it lol

fishing user avatarHighhawk1948 reply :

You know, you have a point. Why fish. I now plan to give it up and try something else.

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

Interesting question and some great answers. I think LBH comes the closest to how I feel. Fishing is just a part of who I am. I have had a couple of trips with my wife this past week where we left home before 4 AM and returned after 8 and 10 PM respectively. We caught 2 decent fish, many dinks, and had a great time both days. Trying to explain that investment of time, money, and energy to someone who doesn't get it is a waste of words. For those of us who do, no words are necessary.

For what it's worth, my wife is great fishing partner (among other things :eyebrows: ). While there are times when she does those annoying things that wives do, when we go fishing we generally leave all that at home.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

yea im only 20 so i dont have a wife or hectic life to deal with.. I'm just trying to get some answers to as why i love it soo much. i have Three passions in life that ive learned about my self so far... Baseball,Working out and fishing. I thought of this after reeled in a lunker. some days i love being out there others i dont get a bite all day but keep throwing my line in the water.. It soo weird to me!!! Great Answers Guys And Gals..

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

Due to the fact that i dont have bass boat and never been fishing on one.. Keeps me driving around the surronding county's searching for that honet holes in the middle of the woods or the side of the road which hold that lunker i enjoy that soo much its like im on open water look for spots to fish but im drving around in my car.. LoL

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Just be thankful that you have things you love. So many are lost, drifting, idle,....not good, that's how trouble finds you. Think of it this way, when you're standing on the bank, you're NOT sitting on a bar stool. Don't fight it, don't analyze it, just nurture it.
