In conjunction with Glenn's approval, I challenged Charlie Moore on behalf of BassResource.com. This is a copy of the challenge I sent.
"I am a 38 yr old UPS driver and also a moderator on bassresource.com. I am also the regional events coordinator for C.A.S.T. for kids foundation.
As a representative of bassresource.com, I would like to challenge you to a team event. We will put together a team of 4-5 moderators/members to fish against yourself and 4 or 5 teammates. The hitch is we don't want the 5k.The money will go to the winners charity, ours being a C.A.S.T. for kids event in Charlies home town. We are expanding into the northeast this year and would love to launch alongside Charlie Moore, "NEW ENGLANDS" mad fisherman.
Please visit our site and see what we are about. Strictly an educational/instructional youth friendly forum board started By a man named Glenn M*^ who will also be on our team.
Regardless as to whether you accept or not, our board will be anxiously awaiting your reply.
Sincerely,
Russ T*#)ni@A"
GO Bassresource team.Kick some butt. Then kick some Moore (pun intended) butt!
Thats great.
OK, I'll start the Chant... Everybody chime in and maybe Charlie will "hear" us.
Char-lie,..Char-lie,..Char-lie,..Char-lie,.. Char-lie,.. .....
Go LBH, I would like to see that episode!!!!
Looks good Russ! I'm sure C.A.S.T. will be thrilled if this event happens. I'm honored to be a part of it.
Thanks for taking the initiative on this!
Glenn
NICE! Good luck. Hopefully he doesn't get like rick clunn or IKE or something. Although i am sure that most of you could hold yer own
Sweet, hope it works!
He will probably get Joel St. Germain or someone. It's going to be fun to watch.
Char-lie,..Char-lie,..Char-lie,..Char-lie,.. Char-lie,.. .....
Thats an awsome idea LBH good luck and keep us posted!!!
Man that is SWEET. I can't wait to see what happens.
LBH, I sure wish we could hold it here at Lake Varner. It's that big bass, trolling motor only lake sinko77 and I always talk about. My buddy caught 3 over 8lbs there yesterday.
abel- you a yankees fan living in Boston? lol THanks for the support!
battle in beantown...lol
Hey, LBH great idea! Make sure you send a video! I know as creative as you are, you will get there attention. Good luck!
Brian
L_B_H:
you may be low budget, but you are high class!
What great idea to direct winnings to a charity.
Do any of you guys know how to fish? Could be embarrassing?
oh ye of so little faith nick
you da man LBH if you need a teammate count me in
and if you need help with C.A.S.T in Ny also give me a shout
Yeah when Charlie loses ;D
this would be TOO cool if it were to happen... I have my fingers crossed.. and I will follow this like its the world series and the white sox are in it!

We don't won't to wait as long as your sox did. LOL
Quotethis would be TOO cool if it were to happen... I have my fingers crossed.. and I will follow this like its the world series and the white sox are in it!AL
Hey now...last season Charlie lost almost every challenge out there....even his sister beat him....lol....this season I think they let him win....lol.
Hope you will get to hear from him for next season...would be fun to see, if he commits, who he will get to fish with him....lol...Mark Zona would fit his personality...lmao......both are pretty cocky...lol...and they both make me laugh.
Squid
the only thing i could thik of that could backfire is the fact that
1. there is a good chance that the show may be booked for a while
and
2. you would need to find a backup. like a company to donate the 5K if god forbid the BR represenatives lost. that way charlie's publisists wouldn't turn their noses at the chance that he may look bad by not giving the money to a charity regardless.
or i suppose that the mention to viewers about the charity could be withheld untill you win
dunno just thinking of scenarios because i would like to see this happen
Well he did say that the money should go to charity of choice...whether Charlie's team wins or the BassResource.com Team wins.
I thought that was a good idea ;D I hope you guys get it
Come on Charlie, it's for the children. LBH, I hope you hear from the Mad Fisherman. I think a video would certainly help. Maybe even trying to come up with some other entertaining challenge like a baked bean eating contest or a game of street hockey. They seem to like to mix the fishing with some other event. Last week was a skydiving thing. I think the great equalizer will be if Charlie checks out the site and sees what a great vibe we've got going on here. Charlie is all about having a fun time. Hopefully the team from Bass Resource will fit into his plans.
go charlie moore NOT ;D
Nick- Hadn't thought of that, where can I go to ask some folks some questions and learn real quick,...any ideas? lol
As to the backup for the 5k, I want there to be a CAST event in Boston, either way. Either I will pound the ground and campaign up the money like I'm doing for the RI event ,...or,......It's on Chuck! Either way it's a win/win situation with great publicity for everyone involved,....especially the kids.
I just hope they reply one way or the other. THere are some guys from Ocean State Bassmasters that know him pretty well, and they were telling me today how this is right up his alley. Time will tell.
Oh man, this is soooooooooooooooooooo coooooooooooooooool 8)
I want a tryout. Go team go. We need a name. What's the Teams name? Bassresource.com is ok for filling out forms, but we need something people can shout in a cheer.
OUT*ing Standing! ;D :-* :-* :'( :'(
Glenn's Monkeys? Er... um... I mean, "The Bait Monkeys" ?
Okay, maybe not. :
In the other Charlie Moore post, a couple guys mentioned the side bet. I forgot to include this but the website doesn't ask you to include it.
Both Charlie and I are from New England so I was thinking Quahog shucking or somthing like that.
Seeing how it's a team though, street hockey would be awesome.
Any ideas for a side bet if we get picked?
"Glenns BassResourceBassers"
At least I'm thinkin' :-[
Char-lie....Char-lie.....Char-Lie......Char-lie.....Char-lie
Hey Charlie, we're calling you OUT!
Show NO MERCY against the mad fisherman!!!!
I really hope he takes on the challenge!
LBH sweet idea for EVERYONE, and in the end the kids benefit, and thats spectacular! and not to mention some good time fishin'! keep us posted all of us here are so anxcious (bad spelling sorry) to see it go thrugh and see our boys win!!!!!!!! graet way to step up russ.
ok, here's the deal. I didn't realize that below the entry form on their website, it goes on about sending a videdotape in.
I didn't see that part
I sent another email to the submission dept stating that the video will be made this weekend and sent on Monday. I'll try and find a way to host the video I make so we can all see it. Stay tuned, "Moore" to come!
"moore" to come that's beautiful lbh
hey I like glenn's team name Idea
I think you absolutely must work the baitmonkey into your tape you make that's the type of twisted stuff that the bean town brawler won't be able to pass up ;D ;D ;D
p.s. with this post I no longer am a newbie yipeeeee
lol
good point on the monkey,..will do!
bait monkey bait monkey... what you gonna do? what you gonna do when he calls for you...

Anyone interested in this venture, please see post in "everything else" about video editing,...help needed asap.
Yep--official team name: The Bait Monkeys
You should grab up one of these kids as a partner from the forum that live close and Have Charlie do the same.

awesome idea!
Who in the heck is Charlie Moore?
scbassin....Check the link below for Charlie Moore

HH
Did anyone look around on charlies website? Look at the Codfather its pretty funny ;D
Thanks H/H how in the world did you all ever find him? I thought he must be some tournament pro. Good luck, but watch him my guess if he takes challenge he will stack the deck.
scbassin- He's a local New England boy. He's had a show in the sat morning line up for 2 or 3 years now.
He's well known in our RI bass clubs and attends many fund raisers and public events. He's a pretty straight up guy, Alot of the challenges, he actually fishes in YOUR lake so it's tough to call in a "rigged" event. They try to make each outting more of an outrageous, crazy fun kind of event as opposed to a hard-core challenge.
QuoteDid anyone look around on charlies website? Look at the Codfather its pretty funny ;D
OUCH! My New York ears can't handle a bean shoveler trying to sound like a NYC Paisan...Its like a Yankee trying to do a drawl...nails on a blackboard...but funny, still
;D Come on Charlie take the challenge. WHAT ARE YA YELLOW OR SOMETHIN ;D
Here Charlie Charlie Charlie.......come on,I know you're not skeeeeered!
Or are you?
ok folks, I've gotten quite a few pm's regarding Charlie MOore so I thought I would give an update.
I was contacted 3 weeks after submitting written challenge by Charlies ppeps and they told me they liked the idea and forwarded it to ESPN. I replied and told them that I also had the video portion of the challenge ready and needed to know if tha gets sent to them or espn?
3 weeks later again and still no reply from either. :-/
OK Charlie....Let's give those C.A.S.T kids "Moore" for Christmas....Step up and we will call you ?Santa Moore" Get off your reindeer and make these kid"s holidays a little brighter. Char-ley Char-ley San-ta

LBH-how are you gonna do it now? down here in long island we got 6 inches of snow?
Charlie-this board is filled with genorous fun loving outstanding people. this would be great if you could fit it in please try as hard as you can Charlie.
Man, I thought we would have had an answer by now...Glad to see that they like the idea though.

I couldn't help but send another email after hearing Charlie spew all morning about "all you gotta do is go the web site and challenge me,...don't be posting junk on the internet about how you can whoop me, just go challenge me if you think you've got it"....oh man..... this is the email I politely sent.
Hi, I submitted a challenge on behalf of the CAST for kids foundation and BassResource.com and I recieved a reply stating that it had been forwarded to ESPN and to let you know if we don't hear from them soon. That was Nov 13 or 14th and we havn't heard anything yet.
We have a video form of the challenge ready but need to know where to send it. We could also host it online to view if you'd like.
We have almost 4000 members that have been following this anxiously on the BassResource.com forum boards. I have recently spoken with Clay Dyer whom ESPN did a special on and he is also willing to participate at what ever level he is capable, schedule permitting.
Looking forward to your reply,
Russ Thetonia
Don't get me wrong, if we don't fit the shows format or whatever, that's fine, but a little follow up would be really appreciated. I mean even a simple "no thanks", but for all I know, they (ESPN) doesn't even know we exist.
I watched it too LBH and your challenge was the first thought that came to mind. The other day for chuckles I went over on bassmasters boards and apparently Charlie posts there. Someone asked him about your challenge but he never responded. You are right though, one way or another, they should let you know if you've been accepted or rejected!
What about B.R. members flooding ESPN with demands for a reply, maybe then they will realize wer'e here and not going away.QuoteI couldn't help but send another email after hearing Charlie spew all morning about "all you gotta do is go the web site and challenge me,...don't be posting junk on the internet about how you can whoop me, just go challenge me if you think you've got it"....oh man..... this is the email I politely sent.Hi, I submitted a challenge on behalf of the CAST for kids foundation and BassResource.com and I recieved a reply stating that it had been forwarded to ESPN and to let you know if we don't hear from them soon. Lbh I will donate a little money to your cast kids project regardless if charlie excepts the challenge or not and maybe if all the members sent a email to espn it might help. really if you think about it it is the charity that is the ultimate goal here
LBH- One other method to use regarding the challenge. I would suggest sending a letter on Bass Resource letter head (Glenn do we have any?), with a C.A.S.T. pamphlet explaining further the intentions of your challenge and what our group is about. Maybe include copies of your E-mail challenge and letters, as they may have been accidently deleted. Send the letter registered mail to Charlie, ESPN, and Clay Dyer, that way you know which someone got the information.
Charlie is a celebrity, and as such a lot of demands are placed on his time. If you really want this thing to fly, you have to show him it is worthy of his time (we already know it would be). In my opinion, a certain amount of class not crass, will go along way in see your challenge happen.
Good luck on this, and your pending victory over that guy from Boston - JB
Oh and LBH- what the heck is a quahog?
Agreed. Patience, young Jedi. This is more than a one-on-one challenge, which takes considerably more coordination - especially if he's thinking about inviting pros. Their schedules are set 1-2 years in advance.
A quahog is a hard-shelled clam.
otherwise known as clams, topneck, chowder hogs, or beans.
These are the clams used for clams casino or clam chowder, a staple in New England.
Does Charlie have 4 friends? ;D
Thanks for the clarification LBH, as I wasn't sure if that was a local name for oysters (which are pretty d**n good raw, on a half-shelf with alittle cocktail sauce). Here on the Pacific side, they are also known as clams, horsenecks, cockles, and razor. Nothing like talkin' seafood.
Good luck against Chuck. JB
Nice Job, go kick him please... 8-)
Super, Russ.
I hope Charlie takes you up on you challenge.
Even if he takes you on one on one it would be great.
Good luck and Happy New Year!
remember as Glenn said. patience young grasshopper.
Patience my . Charlie Moore is ducking us. He read the forum and knows we are the best. He just doesn't want to look like a girlie man on TV ;D ;D ;D
(cough) eyup (cough) lol
come on charlie were waiting
OK, we first challenged these folks on Oct 30th.
After 2 re-submissions, I still havn't heard a single word from ESPN. Not a "no thanks", not a "we are considering..." NOTHING
This is
a. just plain rude
b. bad business
c. EXTREMELY annoying when every week this guy calls people out. Well, we replied to his call,......repeatedly,.....now what?
I give up
Maybe they are going to pull it off the air. Just a thought there.
Squid
LBH....lol....that was mean man :...really mean ;D But I understand 8-)...lol....too funny :-X
I think you would have the best episode on his show. I dont watch it much but having kids involved is a great idea.
go man kick ***
Quoteabel- you a yankees fan living in Boston? lol THanks for the support!
No, I'm a Chicago Cubs fan living in California!
OK, February 12th and I just sent 3rd request to Charlies web-site (not ESPN)
I included the link to this post and simply asked them to re-contact ESPN again and please ask them to reply to us.
I got an email from Charlie's people today. Keep in mind that this is not ESPN, just the people who forward the stuff to them. This is a copy of the email.
Russ,
We have recieved and forwarded your challenges to the ESPN staff. Unfortunatley they get about 40,000 challenges a year and are unable to grant them all. Because of the large volune of challenges they are also unable to call each challenger back with a yes or no answer. We appreciate your patience with this matter however the producers at ESPN are the ones who make the decisions about the challenges. We have submitted your challenges as well as forwarded all correspondences between us to ESPN. Thank you once again for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Extreme Entertainment Staff.
Now what I don't get is that why does Charlie Moore keep antagonizing people to challenge him if there is more than 6 months worth of unanswered challenges? We first sent this in Oct. and they still havn't even read it yet with 40,000 emails sitting there. This is fine, I understand, but please tell Charlie NOT to ask MORE people to send in their challenge if it most likely won't be addressed.

Great Stuff here... Awesome!
LBH- Just a thought, but they probably don't even consider most of those challenges. I'm sure the producers of the show set up the challenges with "big-name" people. I don't catch the Charlie Moore show alot, but I've yet to see someone who isn't an athlete, singer, or other type of celebrity. I would imagine that the purpose of challenging everyone is to get some sense of viewership by the number of e-mails they receive. I am dissapointed in the fact that you didn't even get a form e-mail sooner. That' s pretty low-class of them.
Have you tried contacting ESPN directly?

Just for the record, it is now June 6th and still no word from ESPN or Charlie Moore.
I still have folks emailing me to ask where we stand with this. We stand in the same ignored, frustrated spot. No follow up. No communication, nothing.
I emailed them both yet again.
LBH-being new this is the first I heard about this. I really hope that they actually consider this challenge. What a good cause man!! If you need any help setting up a CAST program in the south central PA area let me know. I'll do what I can.
Come on Charlie Moore.....maybe we should have the bassresourcers e-mail them (ESPN) about it. There is power in numbers guys!
Just remember, if Charlie don't win, it's not a show. They aren't looking for the best fishermen--they are looking for the best entertaining fishermen. I bet he'd accept if he was challenged by Reel lady!
Quotemaybe we should have the bassresourcers e-mail them (ESPN) about it. There is power in numbers guys!
Already done that too.
Guys lets face it...They have havilacek on the show, nugent on the show, zona on the show ,one of the editors of bassmasters magazine on the show, there having a defensive lineman on the show,..the theme here is showbiz and name recognize people..Have you ever seen on his show someone who wasnt somewhat of an celebrity..I am an insurance salesman who probably could BEAT CHARLIE MOORE..but I am not a name that people recognizes..Its about the bottom line..I would love to see this happen but you have to have some sense of reality and business sense..shows are paid by who wants to advertise and where they think the best spots will be..Good luck but dont get to frustrated..Thank god you can still go fishing.. ;D
BBfool-Your point is quite valid but if you think back the show was based on the fact that the every day guy at home can challenge this guy. It actually ran that way for the first few seasons. Now however, you are correct. It's been nothing but name recognition type people.
Bassman- I not a jerk, I let my girlfriend and nieces beat me all the time, lol. I was planning on letting him win but they won't even answer me.
Email rally back in effect

There is enough talent on this board to have its own show. Call it, "Bass Fishing for the Working Stiff".
With your talent for the graphics and movies, we can have some real training and education going on. You could produce some footage on Flukes, the carolina rig, baits we like, etc. How about that!
QuoteQuoteAny ideas for a side bet if we get picked?

lets let him support the Astros and eat fried chicken and watermelon for lunch. maybe spend an afternoon with larry the cable guy fishing his waters!

Yes,I have seen quite a few shows with him fishing gainst a "regular Joe".
Has ESPN given any indication as to whether they have even picked up this show for another season? With all the programming changes over there I'm wondering if Charlie is even going to have a job a month from now.
Well, ...............the show is still around, 1 year and 3 months since we first challenged him......
I'm going in again. Challenge re-submitted.

Hey guys!!!!
CHARLIE HAS A FORUM!!!!
Let's give this a little time to process and if nothing happens again, perhaps we can approach them via the forum. I am also going to investigate to see if ESPN has any Charlie specific forums. I can't believe none of us thought of this,.....IT'S WHAT WE DO!! LOL
LBH - A man with a mission.
Beat Charlie Moore or bust.
Go get em tiger.
cool beans :)
You know, the problem might be the challenge itself. The idea is excellent, no doubt. But I think for them to get 5 Pros to compete might be a bit much. LBH, maybe you should challenge him yourself(kind of a match fishing deal). Or maybe a two man team thing where you and another guy fish against Charlie and his partner. You have to look at it from ESPN's point of veiw. I think the whole idea of getting 5 Pros fisherman to compete on this one episode is just to much for them. We all know how the money factor comes into play when it comes to this kind of stuff. Awsome idea though.
Now I have no idea if this is the case or not and I certainly ain't trying to rain on anyones parade just thought I'd throw out some food for thought was all.

Did you put a post up yet? If so where? Should we start our own thread? Awaiting instructions SIR!
Hey Russ if you can fish like you do in your videos then Mr Moore and his gang wont know what hit 'em!
GO BassResource.com!!!!
Just say the word, I'm sure when we all start punking them they'll take you a little more serious!
Well, that's what we don't want to do actually.
Anyone who replies under that post would need to remember that you are representing this website. All comments will be civil and non-attack related, just like if you were here.
we will discuss maybe reasons why they havn't responded, ideas for the challenge to make it more appealing, etc It may be 12 pages long but..................
Make it work, it's all about CAST anyway!
Charlie Moore is funny. Thats an awesome show. He's probably scared of real competition though.
Hey LBH, you've got my full support. I'd love to see this thing happen. Sounds like it would make for a very good show and charity event. It'll be a real shame if they don't take you up on it. One thing I learned in the collections field is if nothing else works just keep nagging until they get tired of hearing from you and give in. Politely of course. I'll keep my eyes peeled on this thread. Just let us know if we need to start posting on Charlie's forum.
I sent an email to ESPN. You've got my support.
LBH that is weak. I know that his "Mad Fishermen" NESN show is more the sports and local personalities of the Boston/New England scene. The "Beat Charlie Moore" ESPN show is just exactly what your trying to do, log-in and Apply for a challenge.
oh and LBH if you really wanna get ahold of him I can give you his Cell #
Man this would be great!
Here we come trollin down the bank... Hey hey were the baitmonkeys people saying were monking around were to buzy fishing to put anybody down ;D ;D

Hey Russ
Where did you get those Bass Earings in your Avatar? They're Great!
At a local bass factory. Production has been high, I'll give you the tour again this spring. And thanks for noticing!! I wasn't sure if they were too big, maybe too tacky but they go well with jeans, supplex or any North Face garment.
