what do you think
H&H
OH and the Chatterbait and Senko. ;D :
Beetle spin, they're great!!!
Touche FileMob!
I would say live bait. Not very sporting, but terribly underrated by freshwater sport fishermen.
Oh I forgot. These small Walmart brand worms with a small u tail. ONLY in pink. (Actually called Purple or something, they just look pink.) I've killed before with those things. The Pink small ones are the only ones i would use.
Big Craw Worms
weedless spoons and standard curl tail (NOT ribbontail) worms.
worden roostertail inline spinners.
the C4 minnow (developed in Vietnam) Brings them to the top like no other !!! ;D ;D
I would have to go with a jigging spoon hands down.
I cant remember the last time I saw or heard somebody talking about using a spoon for bass.
In-line spinners are one of the most underrated lures, everybody views them as "beginner 's" lure however they caught fish back then at the age of the dinosaurs when I started to fish and they continue to catch fish now.
I agree with both inline spinners and jigging spoons.
I have to agree that spoons and in-line spinners are very underated. By the way, Tom Redington has mentioned spoons in his reports recently.
You see less and less people using tubes also. Thats not saying its under-rated, just that you don't see it being mentioned as much.

Quoteweedless spoons and standard curl tail (NOT ribbontail) worms.
When fishing gets really tough I take a ribbontail worm and put it on a 1/8 oz jig head and just swim it slowly. It isn't fancy, but I catch fish on it.

I agree with all the above....It's really interesting to me how tubes go in and out of favor. When the Gitzit was first intoduced, it was the Senko of its day. I still consider a tube the most versatile lure in the fishing world.
Worden Roostertails.
I have to agree with 2 people here:
In-line spinners
Beetle-spins (also known as safety pin spinners)
I have killed bass with these.
o yea how could i forget about inline spinners! one of my top favorite baits is a spinner: blue fox vibrax minnow spin!!!! that thing will catch all species of fish all day long!
Dont hear as much about rattle baits anymore as well as beetle spins or road runners
How can you NOT love the beetle spin! ;D
ringworms
Jigging spoons are the #1 winter time bait on Toledo Bend
Ringworms are my #1 goto bait & they work
I think alot of the old school lures are underrated anymore. All the new stuff has pushed the 6" lizard and the ribbon tail worm out of the way.
Around here, the most underrated lure is a finesse worm.
I agree about the inline spinners too but for me they are just under-sized.Tubes are a good mention as well.
I will have to second/third or tenth for the beetle spin. In my young and short freshwater days its the first lure my dad bought me and it seemed like the fish would hit it as soon as it hit the water.
The biggest bass I ever caught though was on a red shad culprit. Well maybe not classified as a catch. I was about 11 years old fishing with my buddy at his dads pond. I cast out and get a back lash. As I am pulling the birds nest out the line seems to get tighter and tighter. I set the hook and pull up a 4# bass. I sure wish they would just bit the hook like that today.
I would have to say lizards. I never hear anyone talking about lizards. THEY WORK GREAT
i love fishing with rooster tails and lizards i catch fish on both all day long! ;D
Storm 3in swimbaits, with the flat paddle tail, color doesn't matter
Crappie type underhung spinners approx 1/8oz when it gets hot out I downsize to these. Have caught several 4lb bass on them.
QuoteI agree about the inline spinners too but for me they are just under-sized.
I used to think they were undersized as well. I often use 1/8 oz for panfish, but never really saw much use for them for bass.
Then I started catching bass while fishing with them. Then I saw (and bought) some 1 oz. It's a good 4" long and matches the shad around here wonderfully right now.
As far as rattle-traps being under-rated, not around here. I hear about them all the time, as well as lizards. Just goes to show that lure ratings will vary by your location.
I don't know about the rest of the country but down here in southern california the most underated lures are any of the OG baits like jitterbugs, Rebel Cranks and pop-r's, Bomber long A's and model A's and the like.
So many people out here are so caught up with Lucky Craft and the like that they think a bait that costs less than $15 wont catch fish. Which is fine with me, their loss.
Personally I think the most underated baits across the board are the Berkely Frenzy baits.
As others have said: Spoons. I've caught many decent bass on red and white daredevils. I've also caught many smaller bass while fishing for trouth with really small pheobe's. Spoons aren't that "cool" but will catch a lot of fish. They really do have great action. Catch lots of other fish too such as pickeral, pike, panfish etc.
