It was my most productive presentation followed closely by swim jigs last season. It has replaced spinnerbaits and all but replaced square bills for me. I can't wait until the water gets soft around here so I can see if the ones I made work as good as I think they look

I then moved my supply up to 4 Z-Man Chatterbaits.

I only carry a few dozen in the boat at any given time, all my home made ones though. Any time the water is dirty my black and blue home made version is one of the first baits I'm going to be throwing! It's quickly become one of my top big fish getters for sure! I've just recently starting making a much more snag resistant version that allows me to fish them through timber and other snaggy areas very slowly without hanging up. Gave them a test run last week and they were a huge success.
I got big fish and first place in one of the week night tournaments with one of my vibrating jigs last summer.
and caught my 2 biggest bass of the year in 2012 on them, of course the biggest one was on a black and blue one

I've got a few. I love fishing bladed jigs through cover but I hate how much they snag up, this bait is the solution to that It's a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG worm hook so your trailer can be rigged Texposed to protect the bait from hanging up.
Another version of it, but with a 6/0 Owner Twistlock XXX, went ahead and rigged a Havoc Subwoofer on the back to give an idea of how weedless this bait really is.
I just got a new Trokar Swim Jig mold so I tied up a few on those heads. This is actually a 5/0 Mustad, but I poured some on 5/0 Trokars and 6/0 Eagle Claw lazer sharp hooks.
Couple more of the weedless version
This one is just one of my standard football heads with a 4/0 Mustad that I've caught thousands of fish on.

bluebasser86 I would definitely buy those the biggest problem I've had with the z-man chatterbait is how it gets hung up. I used an owner sled and the Phoenix blades from tw and some z-man skirts to make a few I love the idea of Texas rigging the trailer. We will see how effective they are in a month or so.

A few years back my local tackle shop was selling a z man chatterbait kit for $15 it came with about 5 or 6 chatterbaits. And I have yet to catch a fish on one. Paul Mueller was using a chatterbait when he caught his 32 lb bag. Looks like I have to give it another chance.

I modify my own so they vibrate harder and kick out occasionally during the retrieve.

Yes I do. If you do it a certain way the baits will kick out occasionally and you can make them ride higher or lower in the water column as well.

Today I caught my first chatterbait fish of the year. Of course there was 14" of ice, I was vertical jigging the bottom in 89 feet of water, and target species was not bass, but hey, none-the-less! lol

Lake trout on a chatterbait, that's pretty awesome! I've caught a ton of rainbows on the micro chatterbaits so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They're a multispecies bait for sure. I can't hardly fish one without catching a catfish. My buddy and I were night fishing last year and he was using one of my baits in purple magic color when a 10 pound flathead ate his bait as deep as I've ever seen a fish eat a moving bait.
White bass and wipers love them too!

There is a time and place for Chatterbaits.
And they do catch quality bass.
I suggest everyone give them a try this summer when the water warms over 70* and higher.

I fish them in cold water, just real slow. I rip them over lily pads in the summer or ill let them sink and then use them like a jig

They're not just a warm water bait, both these fish ate one of my black and blue baits cranked as slowly as I could while keeping the blade moving. Water temps were in the high 40's.
We had a 100+ fish day 3 weeks ago, 1/2 of them on my home made bladed jigs. Water temp was 51, notice the snow on the riprap?

Hey Blue what are some of your favorite trailers? I've had some good days in the past without using a trailer, but if it ever thaws out Im going to try yum dingers

I mainly use 2/3 of a BPS 5 1/4" Stick O on mine, or 2/3 of Zoom Trick worm. The Havoc Beat Shads also work very at times. With my new bladed jig I'm building with the hinged head and 5/0 or 6/0 Owner Twistlock hooks I'm going to be playing with some other trailers. I see some baits like 8-10 inch worms and hollow belly swimbaits being a real viable option as a way to present those baits in a way fish have never seen before.

Sounds like a solid design, I love the idea of using it as a tool to present soft plastics in a way they haven't been seen before. I can't speak for what the up front costs would be but it sounds like you're onto something that would sell!

They're an interesting idea for sure!
My regular bladed jigs have received some serious revamping the last couple weeks also, even gone as far as to make some with 5/0 Trokar hooks
