First off you need weighted hooks for the best action, the size will depend on the size of swimbait. First Poke the hook through the nose of the bait. take it out. I don't know, but I've had really good results with them. Especially in SW. The obvious, "Sexy Shad" is my go to color, and have 4 packages of them, since they sell out almost everytime I'm at BPS.

Made of quality plastics, and with a bottle of Mend-it, a package will last a looooong time. Maybe I'm fishing it right, but I've cought numerous sea Trout and Redfish on them....

I have to disagree, used these swimbaits all last year in NY and caught a LOT of quality fish on them both Smallmouth and Largemouths. This year in Florida they produced quality fish in all kinds of weather conditions. I cannot say enough good about the Shadolicious swimbaits. Plus they hold up a LOT longer then the soft Yamamto products.

To answer the main question, I rig these baits texas style on a 1/4 to 3/8 oz weighted 6/0 hook for the 4.5 inch and weighted 8/0 for the larger swimbaits. Have a bottle of Mendit handy and you can fish all day on one package of these quality baits. As an added trick...coat the swimbait with Mega Strike scent and they come through grass much easier without hanging up.

I'm using 4/0 Owner Twistlock hooks on the 3.5" baits. Seems perfect for whatever I'm fishing, but will trade in a new package for the 4.5". I didn't know they made them at 4.5. Will have to look better when I'm at BPS.

I have tried the Swimsenko and was disappointed. Not much tail action. IMHO, Shadalicious much better and durable bait.

I use a 5/0 weighted hook. I also slit the belly straight down the middle so it's easier to find center and if you use a smaller hook or one that's not a wide gap it will fit inside the belly.

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried the weighted hooks, saltwater jigheads, regular EWG hooks with weights attached, swimbait jigheads; and no fish.

I can't catch a cold with one of these.

I catch a lot of fish on Swim Senkos and Skinny Dippers, rigged on a Shake2 jighead.

I actually stole that idea from Hank Parker, carrothead, so I guess he should get the real credit but I'll take it if you're gonna give it.

A follow-up question to the Hank Parker tip for any who's tried, do this adversely affect the action of the bait? I saw that same Hank Parker show, which seemed to address my biggest apprehension about these type of baits which are missed fish. I have a small supply of Basstrix & Berkely's that I though about trying this with.

If you can't feel the vibrations from the paddle tail, either your going too fast or too slow.

That's been the key for me..

Berkley = 3 baits for $10. :-?

I haven't been able to find Basstrix locally, so when I place an order online for something, I'll look for them.

Shadalicious shimmys both head and tail. Berkley like a stick.

Maybe retrieve speeds or hooks affect the baits differently. I use Gammie weighted EWG hooks, not the screw in nose hooks. That might make a difference.

I have to agree the Berkley swimbaits are stiff and do not have as good a swimming action especially at the prefered slower retrieve speeds. The Shadalicious and the Yum Money minnow offer a much better wiggling action no matter how I rig them. With the smaller baits I use a texas rigged weighted hook, with the larger 6"+ swimbaits the screw lock weighted hooks seem to do a better job. Both the Shadalicious and the Money Minnows hold up much better then the Basstrix which usually is a one fish bait.

Never tried the SK Shadalicious baits before. I've used the Basstrix and Berkleys though. Basstrix are sick baits, like any other hand-poured bait, they get torn up easy. Mend-it glue is a must when you're using any of the higher end soft plastic swimbaits.

There's a million of them out there these days, just about every company makes them. All I can say is open the wallet, buy a pack or two of each of the size/colors that work near you and experiment to see what works best for you.

Also, make sure you have a good solid hook (weighted belly style) that is one size larger than the recommended size. One other thing, it helps if you open up the hooks a bit once the bait is rigged. You want the hook to lay flat on the back of the bait, not downward. If fishing open water put a stinger on the belly - 1/0 Gammie round bend should do.

I have'nt seen it affect the action at all.

Anyone use the Manns Hardnose one's or the Reaction Strike fatheads? New to trying these this year so I got a pack of the Shadalicious then a pack each fo the Manns and Fatheads at Dicks because they were on sale. The Fatheads seem less durable. I thought the Hardnose swam well, maybe better than the Shadalicious, but only fished it for about 15 minutes.

I was watching hook and look and learned some every helpful hints to rig them. First, before you put the point through the back of the bait, put a treble hook on as a trailer hook, the slip a small piece of surgical tubing like you would with a spinner bait trailer. Secondly, take a toothpick and shove it through the head of the swim bait vertically so that it goes through the eye of the hook and both sides the bait to keep it in place. Then trim both ends of the tooth pic: VERY CRUDE DRAWING:

Very interesting and the pics does a good job of describing what you are talking about. Will have to look into trying that.

Stick with Basstrix if you can find them. If you must use the SKs go with OWNER Beast 6/0 1/4oz hook (or 8/0 if >6"). It has a screw for the head with a weighted hook. The Beast is by far the best hook I have found for paddletail swimbaits.

I use the 6/0 hook for 6" swimbaits (basstrix) anything smaller I would opt for the 4/0. The Beast hooks are great, they have an EWG that is ideal for paddletails. I hope this helps. If you want a picture let me know.

For some reason my BPS doesn't carry them. Need to find a tackle shop that does..
