River2Sea Bully Wa Frog (Similar to a Spro) when the water is warmer

5/16 oz. PB&J Eakins Jig with a Okeechobee Paca Chunk

Berkley PowerWorm 7-inch in all red

Zoom Trick Worm

Zoom Horny Toad

Recently I saw a video explaining that the best bait for catching big bass was a topwater lure of some sort. Something about how as bass age, they tend to feed upward a lot more than facing down. Eyes are positioned on top of the head, and the mouth prime for feeding from below.

I don't know. Also heard that big fish feed during midday. Between the hours of 9a and 3p. I think alot of people will tell you that their PB came from a topwater and between those hours, mine did.

fishing user avatarSupermat reply :

Swimbaits, jigs, chatterbaits, rattle traps, and 10" worms

fishing user avatarSneakySnook reply :

I've caught more big fish on a zoom u-tail in the winter than any other lure. Besides that I would say a zoom horny toad, baby brush hog, and a wave tiki worm.

fishing user avatarBassFishingMachine reply :

Plastic frogs, hollow frogs, spinnerbaits, and 5inch senkos catch more quality fish for me.

fishing user avatarCrazedL.IFisherman reply :

Any big profile creature bait in natural colors texas rigged, propeller lures like devil horses for big bass on top water, black and red flake lizards catch me many big bass, yum crawbugs and lastly and most importanly for me hard jerkbaits in firetiger patterns

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

All my 9#+ bass have been caught using a Zoom Finesse worm rigged weedless wacky style.

fishing user avatarBass Bass Bass reply :

Jigs (black and Blue) and Ika's!!!!

fishing user avatarzara spook reply :

Biggest bass I've ever seen (around 9lbs. ...good catch SPEEDBEAD) was caught on a 3/8 oz. terminator.  A pumpkin tube with black fleck is a must as well.

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

Cameron,

The Plum power worm is my normal summer time bait.    Except I like them about 16 inches.

I love the Gene Larew Fire and Ice about an hour before the sun peaks up, and sometime the Tequilla works well in that time frame.

When are the you going to start the weekly night tourney out of Fork Marina this year?       How are your brush piles?    Did they pay off for you last year.     I never fished outside of the marina until last years BBS.    I weighed one on the last day and had an hour left, so I ventured out to the humps just outside the marina, wow, was I surprised at what I graphed and caught in a short period.   You don't have to venture very far do you?

Matt

fishing user avatartrex1210 reply :

I have a few go to baits that seem to work at all times.  I have been doing well with a Eakins/Chompers combo as of late, but I have to give it more time.

The top three:

10" Red Shad Power T-rigged.....weight depends on situation

Mann's 1-......any color........I catch more fish on this than any other crankbait I throw

Chug Bug....most colors.....nothings better than a great topwater bite!!

Trey

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Most of my biggest largemouth, except my PB, have been caught on a 6" Senko. My PB was fooled by a Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern. I expect to catch my next 10+ on a Fat Ika, they have been my best overall producer for big bass the last two years.

fishing user avatarejtaylor822 reply :

Spinnerbaits and Senko's T-rigged seem to work for some of the larger ones for me.  Did pull in about a 4lbr (I know that's small for some of you guys, but good for my pond fishing) last summer on a buzz.

RW, glad to hear that about the Norman's.  I picked up a couple at Dick's the other day.

Eddie

I don't live in an area abundant with monster bass, but we have good numbers of 5+lbers which is condsiderd to be the start of "getting big" around here.

In 2006 my biggest fish were caught on: 3" Mister Twister grub slow rolled over weeds in 3 FOW, water temp 48, 7.1 lbs

6" Zoom trick worm, bubble gum, twitched next to lay down, 4 FOW, temp 65, 6.2 lbs

6" Watermelon Red Flake Yum dinger, let fall in weedy pocket, 6 FOW, temp 76, 6 lbs even

5/16 oz green pumpkin Booyah jig w/2.5" green pumpkin yum craw bug trailer, pitched under dock, 4 fow, water temp 78, 5.5 lbs

4.5" Watermelon forked tail yum dinger, pitched under dock , 13 FOW, temp74, 5.1 lbs

Bobbys Perfect frog, bullfrog color, worked over top of submegred milfoil, 3 FOW, temp 81, 5.1 lbs as well.

fishing user avatarHookemdown. reply :

Zoom Ol' Monster, T-rigged.

Pulled very slow over humps in about 20' of water.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

My big bass ( that's anything over 5 pounds in my neck of the woods ) have bit on one of these baits:

10" Power worm

Super Spook

Buzzbait

Power hawg

Norman deep little N crank

I think that's about it, and that's just about the right order.

The most by far were caught on a 10" Power worm.

Cheers,

GK
