These experiences I had were both at Dick's Sporting Goods, but these deals can happen at any sporting goods store that doesn't specialize in fishing, but rather basketball and things like that. Now I am going to tell you two stories about my experience at Dick's Sporting Goods. Here is the first:
One day, my father and I decided to take a stroll through Dick's. We are looking around until I get to the rods section. I saw four Abu Garcia Veritas Rods (MSRP: $100). I looked at the tag and it had a red price tag on it, indicating that it was on sale and the price said $70.00. Not the biggest sale in the world, but I was in the market for new rods and I liked these rods. I decided I was going to purchase two rods. When we got the the cash register, the tags were ringing up at $35.00 because all red tags in that department were half off. So in the end, you saved $65.00. This deal was obviously too good, so I picked up the other two rods as well. Instead of spending $400 on four rods, I only spent $140. I was a happy camper that day.
Now for the next, not as exciting story:
Just recently, My father and I went to Dick's again, and we were looking around. My father was in the Fishing department while I was looking for shorts because I needed some for fishing. I saw a few clearance racks all bunched up. I saw some shorts there, so I decided to take a look. As I was looking, I saw a few G. Loomis shirts. These shirts retail new for $25.00, but the tag said $15.00, so I told my father, and we took 6 shirts with us to the register. The woman there said "Wow, this is a good deal; 10 dollars off and buy one get one half off"! That's when my Dad and I looked at each other and knew we were going back for more. By the end of it, we had 10 shirts that we purchased for $12.00 each instead of $25.00
Moral of the story, check out your local sporting goods store often if you want to get good deals! Do you guys have any stories like this? I'd love to hear them!
Cool . I'm always looking for deals. I once bought three Curados $25 bucks each .

WOW! What kind of Curado's were they? The good ol 200e's?
Nice! kids is a candy store. That will make your day.
Guess I'm heading to DSG tomorrow! Last week I noticed a couple of Veritas with a red tag($74.95) that I'll be price checking.
I'm always checking out prices on fishing gear at any store that sells them. I get some great deals at the Meijer here as there are very few lakes in the area and the only items that sell at retail are catfish and panfish. I did get a great deal on Bill Norman Middle N's for $1 and Deep Little N;s for $1.50 off the clearance rack at WalMart today. They were regular price in the sporting goods dept. but for some reason those six were reduced.
dick's always does discounts like that. its miraculous.
Wow nice! I wish my area had a Dicks or some other large retailer. Closest Cabelas is 2 hours away, give or take a few, same with Bass Pro and Dick's.

the old green 200 somethings .
I have not one but two DSG stores within 1/2 hour of me. Looks like I may be visiting them both tomorrow.
I was buying the Citica 200E's for $60 from Gander when they were reducing them. I sold about 20 of them on ebay for anywhere from $89 to $119. Then they started to sell them with their own brand rod. I have 9 or the rods i don't use. The rods retailed for $59. I tried to sell the rods on craigslist but didn't have anyone interested in them. Back when Wal Mart was getting rid of the old green Curados I bought 5 of them. One for $75 one for $55 and 3 for $25. I have passed up many more deals on rods and reels and baits at Dicks and Gander Mt. It's worth your time checking them out whenever you can.
I recently picked up a Curado 201G6 for $53 at DSG. Can't beat leftovers that have been sitting on the shelf for years.
Garage sales are great too. I just picked up a nice mercury 20 hp for $3 from one
i couldn't even begin to list all the things i've scored from DSG on these crazy deals!! Last year i cleaned the local one out when they did that same 50% off clearance deal....
Local Dick's, Gander, and never have jack for deals. It's pretty sorry if you ask me. Walmart doesn't either. It's nice to hear that it does happen somewhere though
I did good at DSG late last year, also. But I also bought crap that I didn't want, didn't need and haven't used yet.
OP, sounds like a successful trip. I assume they were Veritas 1.0's. I hope they don't disappoint.
If they were 2.0's, please PM me immediately...I'm leaving work early
Wow, this is my very first post (besides introduction) and it has 400+ views!!! Thanks to all who read!
There are a ton of bargain hunters on sites like these. Posts like this are right up our alley. On 9/15/2015 at 8:33 AM, Team Wagy said:Wow, this is my very first post (besides introduction) and it has 400+ views!!! Thanks to all who read!
Fishing can get expensive!
My dicks sporting goods had a discount table one year with the larger round CRANKBAIT reels and OKUMA spinning reels and fin-nor rods.
One year sports authority had discounted rapala shad raps.
Watch Wal-Mart and dicks.
Remember sales, clearances, bargains are only good if we use this stuff.
Yes I got this same deal last year. I've been waiting for this post I'm surprised it's so early last year I didn't see it til after Christmas. I'm going to dicks this weekend thanks for the tip

my pet ducks especially enjoy Duck's Sporting Goods. There are many sales on bread and feather shampoo that they seem to enjoy.
also my dad got an 60 dollar okuma spinning reel at DSG for like ten bucks with the ale they had and his scorecard coupon. by the way, I would definitely recommend the scorecard if you go to dick's a lot. they coupons add up quick if you use it. my dad has one and hes already gotten 40 or 50 bucks in coupons.
Going to Dicks tomorrow
not really the same thing but i small shop on the way up to my family cottage has really nice prices 85 for a veritas instead of 100 most things seem to be about 10-15% less than regular price and the people there are really nice
Only if we let it get expensive. Shop smart. On 9/15/2015 at 10:09 AM, BassThumb said:There are a ton of bargain hunters on sites like these. Posts like this are right up our alley.

I purchased a producer brand orange spook. Discounted $1.99.I never expected it to work as good as it does. The first time out I caught five nice bass back to back. I'm convinced to try any color now even the weird ones.
I have the luxury(if you want to call it that) of traveling all over the country for work. Some of my biggest savings come from the Northern states like Montana, Idaho, and the Dakotas. Scheels and dicks sporting goods have been good to me up there. Im always finding great deals on hard baits and rods. Bass fishing isn't to popular in these states so the species specific stuff tends to go on sale quite often.
Went into a Scheels in Montana and went right for the clearance rack. They had about 40 Storm Arashi crankbaits and squarebills marked down for $1.25 a piece. Original price on them is north of $8.00. So I bought everything they had plus some Rapala husky jerks for $2.00 and some misc plastics. The arashi aren't my first choice in a crankbait but at that deal I couldn't pass them up. I now have every color and every size of their entire crankbait line and they have put quite a few fish in the boat for me. And if I lose one, I don't worry to much about it because I probably have a spare or two.
A DSG in Albuquerque had a sale on fishing line. Buy 3 spools of Power pro braid or Trilene get one free. And they were already marked down over half off. So I walked away with 3 spools of power pro and one spool of trilene xt for $28 bucks.
Scheels in Omaha has a decent deal on Megabass vision 110 jerkbaits. $19.99 a piece as well if anyone is interested.
Got my first Curado in a similar way. 23 bucks at a pawn shop. Cu-200. I saw a cu-100 Curado too.
Only 1 of the 3 DSG in my area had gen.1 Veritas rods on sale July 2014 for $60.

I live in Albuquerque so we both get the deals here!
DSG's one of the best stores for discounts
and even extra surprise discounts at checkout.
We've bought bikes on clearance that were even
*further* discounted when the cashier scanned
the barcode. Same thing for a multipurpose game
table, and other stuff.
We love DSG
I have bought quite a few $50 citicas and $75 curados at gander over the years. I stop in just to look for deals like this even when I'm not in the market for anything.
I am always hunting for sales. Just picked up VMC spinshot hooks for $1 a pack. Took all the #1 and #2 hooks they had.

My second kindle is failing. The spell check changes my words. I'm sorry I catch it sometimes but I miss it too.
Don't forget our online sales with reduced or free shipping too everybody wins.
sounds like the moral of the story is don't go buy fishing equipment without Dad
Dicks is the only half way decent fishing store i have around me,and it has a pretty decent clearance and sale selection. Only other options in NJ is Wally World and that Bass Pro that never seems to be open.

there's one that's been building in Atlantic City for 5 years.... they keep on pushing back the opening date lol. The only fishing stores that we have in NJ other than mom and pop is Wally World and Dicks, as Cabelas, gander don't seem to want to open a store in the most dense state lol
