I've never used crawfish baits. I'd like to try some of the soft crawfish lures out there, but don't know when the best time to use them would be. I fish large ponds in south Georgia. Water is not clear, but not super muddy either. I can see at least 3 ft through the brownish water. Pumpkin and watermelon have produced with the Baby Brush Hogs.
Any and All times.
Spring and Fall would be the best times.

Thanks. No hurry to start tossing them then.
When do u see crawfish in Tifton. You make fool a bass or two with a crawfish bait at anytime but there are other baits at certain times that will be better.Crayfish feed on living and dead animals and plants
If a body of water has a good amount of craws, then any time of year you will catch on craw imitators. As always, try to 'match the hatch' in size and color. When you catch a bass, always check to see if there are claws in the back of it's throat, this can be the best way to gauge size and color of the craws being hunted by the fish.
I catch plenty of fish in the dead of summer in water with no crawfish in them with craw baits.
The Rage Craw and Zoom U-Vibe craws are my favorites. Both are very versatile.
Y’all be funny
Craw worms are the most underutilized & yet one of the most effective big bass lures in your arsenal!
Rest assured bass do not know if there are crawfish in your body of water or not!
Rest assured bass do not know when crawfish are out or not!
Why do y’all think almost every plastic lure manufacture sells some version of a craw worm!
What makes a jig so effective is they mimic crawfish & so do craw worms!
What do y’all think most “creature” baits mimic?
When flipping, pitching, & punching what y’all think y’all are trying to imitate?
So yea y’all keep believing crawfish baits are only for spring & fall or if you lake has crawfish or not.
As for me I will keep kicking bass with them year around
Amen, Catt!
Catt is 100% correct yet again.
I dont fish with crawfish baits.Never fished with brush hogs or jigs but I know spring and fall are when crawfish are more plentiful.Bass love crawfish and I am sure no matter what time of year it is they will eat this.

Great night time bait, krisjack69. Up here they tend to hide during the day and come out at night to forage for food, but I fish a craw pattern a lot during the day with pretty good results. Give em a whirl.
What Catt said...
Mike
I find that Summer is the best crawfish bite, here. Deep football heads, and river bends are great with a craw immitation. Baits with craw action like speedcraws, may immitate fleeing blue gill; moreso, than craws IMO. Either way, they bite em all year long, if you can get under the ice.
Well I guess I need to start fishing with more craws.
I dont have craw baits and wouldnt know anywhere around here that does.I just never looked for them.I do good with what I have now.

Lotta stores I go in down here don't carry them. They carry Brush Hogs though.
Tifton tho is a good drive to get just lures lol.I would drive that far to fish tho.Go figure lol.Gas prices are high.
Whenever the water is wet.
Use them year round in any conditions.
I agree 100% with Catt! The 2 best ones I've used are the Strike King Rage Craw and the Zoom Speed Craw. I use the Zoom if I am trying for a smaller look and a lil less action. My main colors are Watermelon Seed/Red Fleck in the Rage. And my go to colors for Zoom are Watermelon Candy, Purple Cinnamon, and Watermelon/Red Fleck. Fish them with a Tungsten sinker and you'll be in good shape.
Craws are out from the spring up to the late fall. Craw baits catch a ton of bass all summer. If you don't fish a craw bait in the summer, only you are missing out on some great bass fishing!
I guide at night alot in Wi.and I do night trips and the craw is one of my go to baits. Brush hogs, jigs,Paca, baby paca's,and the list is too long!
Let the bass tell you what they want. When you're livewell is full of regurgitated crawfish, they're not puking them up to make room for bluegills.
I've caught bass in 32 degree weather with a thin layer of ice on parts of the lake with a jig and plastic craw.
I find crawdads all summer long under rocks.
I say they work all year round.

To answer your question, read quote above. Catt hit the nail on the head....again, lol.
When isn't a good time?
A t-rigged(more recently keel weighted) Rage Craw is one of my top producers, especially for size, year round.
Well I ordered over $50.00 worth of soft-bodied craws from TW today. I went kinda nuts, but I had to get that free shipping . I got the Berkley chiggers, the Pacas, the Rage Craws, and even someof the Zoom craws. Bunch of different colors. I had a really weak moment.

Yeah that's how they get u to pay more lol.Instead of what u would have paid u paid more just to get free shipping. Its a business tactic that works pretty well.lol.
All I can say on this topic is this.....I have a Craw bait of some sort tied on at least one of my rods every time I go fishing. Most of time it's a Rage Craw.
As others have mentioned above... Craws are a year around bait choice for me as well. I always have a jig n Craw or Lobster hooked up as well as a flippin rig with a Craw or Lobster on it. Regardless of water temps, depths, color or otherwise... if I have found the fish, they eat the Craws. Plus, you can fish'em any way you want and from top to bottom! I guess it's easy to see I'm HOOKED on'em

Yes it does . Now I have enough craw stuff for a year or more . I like to try different hook and weight combinations.

I want to get some keel weighted hooks. What type and size is recommended for different baits?
4/0 to 5/0 "Moaner Weighted Stroker" is my choice and they are screw lock style hooks which add longevity to your bait www.moanerhooks.com These hooks were designed specifically around "Rage Rig" techniques and the weight design is both hydrodynamic and positioned further back on the hook shank to provide a more horizontal fall. Weights of 1/8, 1/4 or 3/8oz. depends on depths, wind and structure type I'm fishing. The 1/4oz is a standard for me and works in most all conditions. Fish it slow like a T-rig bait with slow lift or slide forward and pause. If you use the weighted hooks that are not the screw lock type, you would go down one hook size for a good fit because of the different distances between hook eye and hook point... Hope that helps!

It does. Ordered some today.
I can spend $50 on Rage Craws like that. Mostly the Falcon Craw color. They really are far and above other craws in my book!
Rage Craw for me and I use it all year long (except when the water is hard). As Big O mentioned, Moaner Hooks are great. In fact I only use Moaner hooks for my soft plastics. If I could only have I type of bait to fish with the rest of my life it would be the craw.
I've used the Rebel craw baits and they work really well.
