When Do You Guys Restock Your Tackle? 2024

fishing user avatarchromedog reply :

With winter finally settling in, in upstate NY, I find myself getting itchy to restock all the items I went through and picking up new stuff to try. When do you guys find your self going through all the websites and fliers and going crazy? Who has good sales this time of year?

fishing user avatarHyrule Bass reply :

i dont keep alot in inventory, stuff like soft plastics i will pick up as needed for the most part. now if i make a special trip to BPS or Gander Mtn i am libel to buy a lot of stuff i didnt have or stock up on a couple things i really like that are hard to find locally...

fishing user avatarMarc David reply :

24/7/365.. ;)

fishing user avatarlavbasser reply :

Last year BTD had a 20 percent off sale in early Feb. Many of the retailers will have sales on major holidays. Thanksgiving sales might be the best.

fishing user avatarscbassin reply :

I restock as needed.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

Next big sale period is around President's Day. 15-20% off many oline retailers. BPS Spring classic sale is around the same time if my memory serves.

fishing user avatarAluma-Bass reply :

around the time of the classic most vendors will have a sale...

fishing user avatartelmomarques reply :

i usually restock 2 months before my toruney start, it starts at april so i restock at feb

fishing user avatarIma Bass Ninja reply :

When last years stuff goes on clearence.. :laugh5: ....Funny but true, i just got through loading up on spinnerbaits , cranks, jerkbaits and line since Dicks is having there clearence sales mark down plus 50% off....Walmart should be right behind them and hopefully Academy and Sportsman warehouse will soon follow.

fishing user avatarbaluga reply :

Always on the look out for sale, restock when there's a good deal. Always buy a spare or backup to avoid paying the regular price when you need it. ;)

This is exactly what I do. Find a deal on stuff I use, and buy a bunch of it. I also like clearance sales on last year's stuff. The fish don't seem to care when I'm using last year's tackle. I guess they don't read the same propaganda we do.

fishing user avatarFishes in trees reply :

If I find a lure or a color of a lure that is working, I'll get a spare 5 or 6 bags asap. If I find it on sale, that is nice, but that really doesn't figure into the purchasing decision. I'm addicted to buying fishing tackle and I know it. If I think it is the shape and action of the lure rather than the exact color, I'll buy several similar (or dissimilar) colors just to make sure.

Every day I go without buying fishing tackle is a boon to my wallet. I've went as long as 3 or 4 weeks in the past without buying fishing tackle. I think my all time record is around a month and a half.

What really bugs me is when I buy a bait on a whim, it stays in the boat for a while, and a year or so later I have a good day on it, and now there is no way, without going to a lot of trouble, that I'm going to get more of that bait.

Case in point, several years ago, I went to West Point Lake, in Gerogia/Alabama, for a BFL Wild Card Regional. I bought 9 or 10 bags of a local, hand pour, senko imitation. Didn't use them during the tournament, wasn't really a senko kind of day.

A couple of years later, these baits are still in the boat, I'm experimenting with texas rigged drop shot baits and I put one of these on, more for the thicker texture than anything else. Boom, fish on - over and over again. I go through a

couple of bags. Now, I have to ration these baits, I don't see myself driving to West Point Lake anytime soon.

I don't think there is a moral to this story, other than if you think a bait is going to catch a lot of fish for you, buy lots of them.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

Year round for me as well... if there's a big sale I'm likely to take"advantage" of it. Speaking of, I see a rod in the future during BPS' rod/reel trade in coming up next month.

fishing user avatarJIGFISHERMAN. reply :

I've pared down my selection a bunch. It just simplifies things a bunch IMO.

One thing I will never do again, (and haven't for a few years) is buy things just because they are on sale. There are some colors that feel just do not work, and some I will never use. There is no point in buying this stuff just because it is cheap.

fishing user avatarThe Guy reply :

All the time whether I need it or not, I think I have a problem

fishing user avatarscrutch reply :

Way too often. The 24/7/365 post pretty much says it all.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

Well, except for some staples (gulp worms and chiggercraws) which I buy anytime before I might run out, I purchase most of my gear in the winter months to keep from going completely out of my head.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Chromedog, I restock when Green Top, Gander Mountain, BPS have their sales and at the Richmond Fishing Expo.

I also visit a distributor and get my plastics from him during the year.

I take inventory as to what I need over the Christmas to New Year week.

I have my list ready for the Richmond Fishing Expo and Green Top and will be watching for the BPS and Gander Mountain sales.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I restock as needed.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

I do most of it from Black Friday til ice out then as needed. As I type this, I'm going broke and the sooner the ice melts the better.

fishing user avatarFat-G reply :

Year round, but more recently I got EXTREMELY organized with my three baits for 2012, dropped down to a whopping two combos, and dropped close to 1K on baits, line, hooks, etc.

fishing user avatarRiverFisher13 reply :

I buy most during the winter. I will buy plastic all through the season and will pick up a crank if its something i dont have and a need for it arises (which means i kick my self for not having it before)

fishing user avatarNCbassmaster4Life reply :

I stay stocked up on most of my go-to baits, so if im in a situation out on the water, it's no problem.

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

To start restocking would require you to stop first, right? Then I cant answer this.

+1 to that.

If i run out of terminal tackle or lose a favorite lure ill buy another. I'm regularily trying new worm types/colors. Not as much as some people, but enough I'm sure.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

When soft plastics get "low", like down to the last 2 bags of that perticular size/color/style of bait, I usually bolster the stoc of that bait with a bag or two. Hard baits usually get restocked also when I am down to one or two of that bait. I keep my boxes full in the boat and have "reserve stock" back at the house that I refill the boxes with. I buy alot of my stuff when places like TW have sales, or when I get gift cards for xmas etc....

fishing user avatarloodkop reply :

I buy gear whenever there is a bit of spare cash lying around. ( Not often enough) I think about new gear when I'm awake and might even dream about it as well.

fishing user avatarflippin and pitchin reply :

I have enough stuff to last me the rest of my life. If I post a photo I will end up on that TV show, Hoarders or Intervention. I do need some tubes though. :Idontknow:

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

I WILL STOP RESTOCKING WHEN MY BAIT MONKEY TELLS ME TO STOP !!...he is 40 years old now how long do bait monkeys live?

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Its like an addiction. If you only took it as far as melting a plastic worm in a spoon and the shooting into your arm.

fishing user avatarzip pow reply :

I stock up about seventy to a hundred dollars a week fishing tackle is like crack you just can't get enuff

fishing user avatarOkobojiEagle reply :

Winter is 4-5 months long in my part of the world. The first couple winter months I clean the boat and tackle. As I'm cleaning and repairing my tackle I evaluate how equipment, tackle and techniques performed for me during the last fishing season. If I wasn't happy with a piece of tackle or bait I dig through the closet and tubs in my fishing room to find a suitable replacement. The same time I read the web boards to see what others would use as my replacement. If I find I need a new piece of equipment and/or bait, I jot it down on a shopping note pad to be purchased on a trip to BPS or Cabelas sometime during late Feb. or March. I give myself most of the winter to mentally evaluate options so that I'm not "impulse" shopping.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

I make note of what I have depleted every winter and then I do a full restock. During the spring, summer, and fall seasons I will replenish anything that I run out of that is necessary. It is a pretty basic process.

Pretty silly, huh?

I only buy lures when they are for sale.

:goggles-penguin:

fishing user avatarChiCityBasser reply :

I usually buy a couple of the new lures out during the classic but I have 3 big tackle bags full of tackle so I'll just reload my main bag and boxes from those bags. I tend to get stuff as I run in and out of cabelas so no need to really make too large a purchase to restock my bags.

fishing user avatarA-Rob reply :

Black friday is usually a good time

I like then, or whenever the budget says I can afford to haha

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

When I'm close to running out or when they are on SALE!!!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarHound_dog reply :

Inventory and restock in the winter for most things. If I run across something I haven't used in awhile then I usually will pull it out of my go to boxes and will not buy anymore of them. If I run low/out on something during tournament season then I will restock. I try to keep it down to a big restock just once during the year. The big thing that usually comes up for me is the one bait the bass seem more to want on a particular day is the one I don't have in the boat!

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Chromedog, guess what?

I know one of the Zoom wholesalers and I picked up the following at the Richmond Fishing Expo on Friday, January 20th:

1 bag of 100 favorite and double secret drop shot worms for $5

1 bag of 100 other worms for $5

1 bag of 100 other worms for $5

2 bags of Alabama Rig swmbaits for $2 each

and

1 KVD Sexy Shad Hollow Frog from Green Top

Also scored the last two Wilson Frazier DVDs on sonar and got to meet the Professor.

If you have not viewed the first two DVDs of the Professor I suggest you secure them. Extremely educational and the Professor tells you the secrets of setting up your GPS/Sonar unit.

So I have started stocking up for this year but still have other items to purchase when the GreenTop, BPS and Gander Mountain sales begin.

Let the Bait Monkey rejoice!!!!!

fishing user avatartugsandpulls reply :

fishing user avatarFishing-Vol reply :

I don't know about restock, but I just ordered 700 soft plastics for my upcoming trip to the Kissimee area.
