What Is The Best Jig In Your Opinion? 2024

fishing user avatarBassAssassins14 reply :

What's your favorite jig?

fishing user avatarrockchalk06 reply :

This has been my #1 producer all year. North Star Black Series Brown Craw. Its the one on the left

The best jig is going to get a 1000 different votes. I stick with NS as I love the quality and have always been treated well by Chris.

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

The best jig? The one you have the most confidence in! There's not one jig that is so far above the rest.  The company I picked to use drew me to them because they use great hooks, they don't paint their line tie so it doesn't fray the line, and I have great confidence in the colors they make.

I used to tie my own, but for lakes I found myself wanting more options. I started using California Reservoir Lures. Be careful though, they're addicting cause there's so many good looking colors.

Don't believe there is a best, the object being to catch fish, not to have them last forever.  I have used a number of different bass jigs and trailers, don't feel any 1 brand of either product has produced more fish than another.

Bucktails might be my #1 saltwater bait (I use them in fresh too), my catch rate is probably about the same regardless of maybe a dozen or more different brands and styles.

fishing user avatarFrenchman83 reply :

I have a local guy that makes jigs so I buy from him. Quality products, options, local money and service. Do not know if they are the best but I have confidence in them.

You find a jig that works for you with quality workmanship at a price that you feel is worthy, and that becomes your favorite jig.  I started purchasing jigs from Mike Siebert a few years ago and I always liked the quality for the price.  Plus, he was in my general region and I hoped I was helping him to make a successful business.  Now, Mike is a sponsor here and quite a few people like his jigs.  He has also never stopped working to improve the quality of his offerings.  I see the same thing with NorthStar.  I'm sure there are quite a few other jig companies producing a great product as well.

fishing user avatar5dollarsplash reply :

Siebert Outdoors Blind Date or Elite are my favorites.  You can fish them any way imagineable.  Come through cover well.  And the prices for the Blind Date jigs are awesome, so your day isn't ruined if you do get one hung up.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I like Strike King.  I tend to lose a lot of jigs and SK doesn't break the bank.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

all kinds i love them all... but for some reason the bass really like the booyahhhh jigs in the casting model at ponds , ill give what they want.. at the lake they like footballs so i give em footballs..

fishing user avatarBlaineFred reply :

I use several brands....

I prefer rattling jigs, and not all brands have rattles.   Skinny Bear is an excellent jig, but they don't have rattles.   I know that I can add my own rattles, but I don't really want to do that unless I have to.

I use All Terrain jigs the most...with rattles.   They make excellent grass jigs that come through grass better than others.  All Terrain also makes other types of jigs besides the grass jigs.  Excellent colors.

I also like the TNT baits Wadda jigs.   Again, no rattles here.

OutKast is an excellent brand with a number of different types, such as a swimming jig, flipping jig, etc.  Excellent color choices.   Some have rattles.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

For 90% of my jig fishing I use my own jigs. Special application jigs I use NuJigs in brush and Scroungers* for swim jigs. Any jig is only as good as the hook used, always use jigs with high quality premium hooks.

Tom

* make my own Scroungers from the original (change the hook) and they are hard to find today.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

The one they are eating that day is the best jig in my opinion.

It is your goal to select the correct one out of the hundreds on the market.

Good luck.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I really like northstar, siebert and dirty jigs. The quality and performance is spectacular with these 3. Siebert has a good quality jig and price with unmatched customer service. Northstar has a very high quality jig and some of the best components out there but the downside is turnaround time on orders. Dirty jigs has some of the best colors and hooks but the down side is price. These are my top 3 though there are other jigs that will work and produce fish.

fishing user avatarBrianSnat reply :

I like Strike King because they are fairly well made and inexpensive.  A local tackle shop also sells a brand obviously made by a mom and pop outfit and they are pretty cheap too so I snap those up.

fishing user avatarmkfriedrich reply :

The only ones i have used so far is bass patrol. They are fantastic. $2.00 and some change and they catch fish. However I would like to try these siebert outdoors jigs. I hear alot of great things about them!

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

I like Dirty Jigs.  They are the best to order from TW and that is where I get all of my tackle.

Get a pair of gate cutters and clip that flashing off from around the hook eye and then take a nail file (the black ones at walmart) and touch up any rough areas around the line tie, otherwise its going to be trouble with fraying your line out and breaking. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with pink, its smallmouth crack in stained waters around here

fishing user avatarCC268 reply :

Do you guys modify your jigs at all?

Also...what is the purpose of having eyes on a jig head? Your using a trailer like a craw anyways....?!

fishing user avatarmnbassman23 reply :

I'm a Northstar guy. They have what I want and if for some reason I want a different color Chris will make it for me.

It depends on what jigs your buying if you want/need to modify them. When I use to buy big named company jigs I would always trim the weedguard because they were so stiff. The only other thing I will do from time to time is shorten the skirting material. This is only if I want a smaller/compact look to my jig.

As for the eyes, most times those are probably swim jigs. In this instace you are imitating some kind of baitfish be it either bluegill, shad, perch, etc. Most people will use a swimbait or some kind of grub for a trailer to mimic a baitfish with swim jigs. Although I have had good luck with a craw trailer on my swim jigs as well.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Terry Oldham's Eyemax ;)

fishing user avatarDylan L reply :

I have a pretty light rod (M) so my options as far as weights go are somewhat limited. I use a Strike King Bitsy Bug (1/4 oz.) with a rage chunk trailer

fishing user avatarpaul25 reply :

Buckeye lures mop jigs and siebert outdoor os the only jigs I've used and i really love both but like everyone else said you just have to find one that works for you. There are alot of good jigs out there

*** is coming out with a football head design in the next few weeks as well.  Cant wait.

If you need a rattle though, war eagle is a go to.

fishing user avatarcrazy cranker reply :

I've been jig fishing for 34 years during which time I have tried d**n near every brand every made.  It is my opinion that hands down the *** jigs are absolutely the best.  They get hung up 90% less than other brands and 90+% of the time they rotate to hook the bass in the roof of the mouth.  There is no other brand that can compare.  When I first experimented with them I threw a jig on the floor 10 times and 9 times it landed upright.  There are several vids on YouTube that explain their engineering.

I should have bought some *** jigs but went with Northstar instead...they should be here in the next few days. Hopefully they work out well for me

fishing user avatarGot1Fishing reply :

I know a few guys have have Siebert Outdoor jigs.. and although I've only used their arky head jigs, I love these jigs more than SK jigs. The way they stand up and are easy to skip win in my book. I'll have to check out northstar

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Terry Oldham's Eye Max

5/0 Gamakatsu Siwash Salmon Hook, made to withstand violent hooksets of braided line without flexing. No orher jig has a hook in the same class period.

The hook shank is fitted with a screw-lock keeper to hold trailers securely in place.

The well-balanced heads are fitted with stickon-3D eyes & sealed with an epoxy clear coat.

Skirts are built by Skirts Plus

Until you've tried Eye Max you have not tried the best!

fishing user avatarCC268 reply :

Just got my northstar jigs today....d**n they are fricken sweet! If I wasn't going hunting this weekend I would be fishing those!

fishing user avatarsarcazmo reply :

Nothing wrong with northstar jigs.  I love the black series skirt mix of rubber and silicone.

I still throw *** 90% of the time now, and as soon as they release their football series It'll probably go to 99%.

fishing user avatarTrey Harpel reply :

Those bitsy bug jigs are pretty sweet. If you can find the bleeding bait versions those are even better. They sell them at BP.
