I need some more jigs. I am on a budget because I'm a broke highschooler, so I don't want to waste any money. What do y'all think are the best bass jig brands? I've always used Strike King, but I'm interested in the 6th Sense and Lunkerhunt jigs. I absolutely love 6th Sense's crankbaits, they are very good quality so I would assume their jigs are good also. Let me know your favorite jig brands and why.
If there is a Bass Pro or Cabelas nearby. Strike King pro models are on sale for $2.79.

Sieberts and terminator are all I use.
Alec, like all other baits and tackle, everyone has their favorites.
The bass have no idea of the manufacturer or cost of your baits, so look for sales and good bargains on various jigs so you can decide which ones you have confidence.
Read about and view YouTube videos about jig heads; types of skirts; and color patterns. All three of these options will create the jig and pig you like the most.
Just remember, you need to study the crawfish and bluegill/bream colors in the waters you fish and then try to "match the hatch" to mimic the crawfish and baitfish your bass are eating.
Always check the bass' belly after you catch them. It their belly's are "crunchy" they are eating crawfish. If the belly is soft they are eating minnows and baitfish.
Have fun and become an expert on jigs and pigs in the next few years.

What is the average cost of a 3/8 or 1/2oz jig now? I make my own and have for over a decade so I do not know what the average cost is.

usually anywhere from 3 to 8 dollars. Depends on the brand and which pro is endorsing them.
Jigs are the easiest lures to make yourself even if you cannot pour lead. Heads are like $1 each and skirts you can make for $0.75 with a $5 tool.

Dirty Jigs for football and structure jigs and Andy's Custom Bass Jigs for finesse jigs
Give Mike at Sieberts a try! Awesome jigs, quality of workmanship, skirt and hook!
I've also been making my own for over a decade but if I was buying them, they'd be from Siebert. I've seen his work in person and his prices are excellent for a hand tied bait with a quality hook. Usually for what he ask per bait, you have to sacrifice something somewhere, but not with his stuff.

Agreed, I am not sure why he sells them so cheap for the time he spends making them.

Another thing you may wanna consider is if you want rattles. I like mine with rattles if I'm fishing dirty/stained water.
Siebert outdoors. I dont even look anywhere else anymore. I always opt for the wire tie. I have some rattles i can add on the rare times i use one.
My personal favorite is the dredge series, but am experimenting with the tungsten pitching jigs now. I have some swim jigs on order now as well.
Siebert also has rage baits $1 less than anywhere else i look too. Free shipping right now on $50+ til the 18th. Even at regular flat rate shipping its still a bargain.

Hello
Where would you suggest getting jig heads w/weedguards to assemble jigs? A buck a piece sounds good.

I like the War Eagle flipping jig. TW sells them for $2.89ea. They are tied with wire and have rattles.
very well made jigs for a great price.
Outlet Bait and Tackle has War Eagle jigs with a rattle and wire tied for $1.55 each right now. I ordered 30 of them. Other than that deal, Seibert dredge dock jigs are my fav.
I bought some from @cadman that have been very durable and have caught a lot of fish. You don't need custom jigs, but wire tied is a plus and a good quality name brand hook is a must. My second favorite jig is a plain weedless Arky jighead with a plastic craw or Yamamoto Hula Grub. This will actually get you more bites in my own anecdotal experience. A way of downsizing your jig.
Look online and buy a pack of Boss jig heads and Boss replacement skirts. In the long run you get great jigs for a low cost.
Check these out JHflippinjigs.com custom painted quality jigs made in the USA Airforce veteran owned great prices and excellent product. I also like to make my own too buy skirt tabs and blank heads it’s fun to create your own and catch something on it
How's the hookup ratio on those War Eagle jigs? The shank seems shorter than many others, at least from pictures.
One thing I like about Siebert is how the hook sits at a 45 degree angle when the jig is on the bottom. Besides possibly helping with hook-ups, your craw/creature trailer sits up off the bottom, make it more enticing to the bass. It also looks more like a craw with it's pinchers up.
Lets stop and step back and look at what a jig is.
A molded shape of heavy metal usually lead or tungsten on a hook. There are hundreds of shapes and weights so you need to start by defining the shape and how you use the jig.
Jig head shape depends on where you plan to fish a jig, in heavy cover or sparsh cover.
Do you plan to cast the jig or drop it vertically. Weight? Does your jig need a skirt? Do you plan to use a trailer? Line size you plan to use?
Siebert Outdoors the site sponsor offers several jig types at reasonable price point with premium hooks to suit most bass jig needs.

It's called passion ????
It would take a very special jig to replace Terry Oldham's Jigs in my tackle box.
Siebert Outdoors Grass Jig has accomplished that!
Hand tied jigs are worth the extra price in my opinion - Sieberts and Grassmaster Jig by All Terrain are great options.

I have great success with War Eagle flipping jigs. They are really good at coming through wood too. I never had any issues hooking fish.

I'm not seeing them at that price. Sale must have ended.
Alec. Whatever jigs you choose don’t go crazy with colors. 3-4 different colors should do. Black and browns are my staples. Stained water black/blue is a must. Clear water match the craws: Brown with red or green. As for weight 3/8 and 1/2 oz is a good place to start.
Goid luck!

Waymont, I just checked, it looks War Eagle is the only brand they took off the sale. Spinnerbaits were under $3 too during the sale. Sorry

I find the hook up to be fine. I do add a bait keeper as I like to skip them. That is an easy fix though. I would prefer a Seiberts and absolutely love them, but couldn’t pass up this deal.

Hey Catt, which grass jig from Seiberts do you like? Is it the grass n swim jig?

The ones I have just say "Grass" but all I see on the website is Grass N Swim. That puppy has one awesome Mustad Ultra Point hook!
Bass Patrol are good and pretty inexpensive if you want football jigs.

What weight is that? Looks like a heavy jig.

Siebert jigs. With the wire tie.
I do a lot more of what most anglers would consider "finesse fishing" while targeting river Smallies. I can't offer advice on all sorts of different styles of heads, but I can say that the quality, durability, colors and price are all fantastic. Not to mention great customer service to boot!
His Sniper jigs are a favorite morsel for the Smallmouth here in central Wisconsin ????????
5/16 sniper jig, all black wire tied with a black blue 3" pit poss is deadly!

Yup. Love Boss heads and skirts. They have a great range of premade but making your own skirt combos is addicting. Still cheaper than a store!
p.s. Sieberts looks awesome too ????

I have been making my own jigs since '71, 2 head designs my viper and a football. I use both Owner and Gamakatsu plain darter and ball heads for finesse presentations.
If I ever need to purchase any jigs it would be Siebert Outdoors because he uses premium hooks and high quality workmanship at a competitive price.
Tom
Best jig, that's easy, Siebert.
Kinda like the Grid Iron Brush Jig! ????
To date, I have used mostly Strike King & Booyah jigs. The paint seems to chip off real easy on the Strike Kings, and I've knocked a couple of the Booyah's heads off but generally both are decent.
I recently got a Bass Mafia tackle bag and loaded it up and realized my jig supply is both a little short, and quite a bit beat up, so thanks for posting as I'll be ordering a few more jigs which is the last thing I need for the 2019 bass fishing season (I still need a few trout/perch lures). I'll look at some of the suggestions here.
