So I've been fishing eagle claw lazer sharp wire hooks. But got some gamakatsu. Wow they are such a step up in quality and thickness and finish! What are yall using?
VMC hooks mostly, cuz they are mad cheap. But I have Gammies and they are much better than VMC hooks.
Owner hooks for over a decade, gammys even longer, some mustads... Some Vmc, some trokars, Daiichi..
Gammie EWGW for most plastics in 4/0 and 5/0 but for my worms I like the Trokar straight shank worm hook in thin wire in 4/0.
I use Owner, Gammy, Trokar and Mustad. Different hooks for different things.
Primarily VMC hooks. Gamakatsu or Trokar IF I can get them on sale.
Awesome! I see no one uses the cheap wire eagle claws I was using haha

Fwiw, I use those for panfish just fine, lol..

Gammy, Owner and VMC here, too.

I used those for quite awhile, I found them to be very sharp and never had a problem sticking a fish. They did seem to rust alttle faster than other brands but not to bad. I've since moved onto other brand worm hooks that I can buy 25 packs during sales but use nothing but eagle claws on my jig hooks. Don't really get the disdain for the eagle claws.
Almost anything is gonna be a step up from those eagle claws. Like said above they're small diameter and hook up good but they rust fast and tend to bend easier than others. I now use Gamakatsu for all my plastics and either Mustad or VMC for trebles.. depends on what's cheaper at the time. I've tried Trokars which are nice but you can get 25 gammys for the price of 15 trokars.
Gamiee
Man that's a bad problem in the salt air here in fl. The eagle claws rust so fast after opening the package
Owner. Only hooks I use.
I have hooks out the ying yang . I buy them on clearance. I have to say though, worm hooks its hard to beat the standard offset Gammys.
VMC for single point hooks, Mustad for trebles.
I've used Eagle Claws in the past.
My primary hooks are Gamakatsu.
I like Split Shot/Dropshot hooks in 1/0 on
which I tie my own weedless guards. Also
like the Wide Gap Finesse hooks.
Gammy O'Shaugnessy hooks for TX rigging.
Also use/used Owner, VMC, Daichii, others.
Gammy has my attention for quality, availability,
sharpness, and general durability.
For plastics I only use two brands, Owner and Gamakatsu.
I used Gamakatsu for years and still do for some baits. I'm mainly using Owner now...sharpest hooks on the market IMO and definitely worth the money. Unless they already come rigged with them, suck as Megabass, I'll replace the trebles on my cranks with Owner.
I've been Owner & Gammy for years unless I'm flipping - then I use the Trokar TK130. But I recently came across a smaller company called Penetration Hooks. Delivery was fast & quality is awesome.

Same here...only add VMC lol
I'm a big owner fan for almost all applications.

X2.
I'm on the KISS wagon and use 1/0 ewg for almost all of my plastic fishing. Keeps clutter down and limits the types/size of baits I impulse buy.
I got a bulk deal on eagle claw hooks a while back and couldn't give them away fast enough. For a while I would bring some packs hoping someone else was fishing where I was so I could give them some. I made some local kids very happy.
Lol I just can't believe the quality difference
Gammies. Used to use the EWGs but I find myself reaching for the offset roundbend these days.

I use them when i plan on losing a bunch of hooks. They've worked fine for me but as others have said they tend to rust very quickly but at the price point they are pretty much disposable anyway

Whoa whoa whoa!!! Not so fast. I do! And for the most part they work great.
Gammys and bps
I fish gammys but I think I'm gonna switch to owners.
Gamakatsu and owners are the majority for plastics but I also use Vmc and Mustads for certain things. I like the Vmc spinshot and mustad elite 1x/2x trebles.
With all the $ I have invested bass fishing, why would I use anything but the best hooks? Mostly Owner, Gammy, Trokar. Yep, $1.00 plus for a hook is insane but spending $ $15 for a jerkbait or $100 plus for a swim bait is way more insane. The hook is what catches the fish,, not the rod or reel or line. Just my opinion.
Well Im 100% very pleased with these eagle claws weedless red hooks. They are my go to hook for wacky senko rigging. They dont rust out like the bare ones do. Was used to get my PB last year.
My other most used technique is for Ikas and brands range Gammy Deep Throat, Trokar TK110 and VMC Fast Grip wide gap.

Texas Rig Best : 1. Roboworm 4/0 or 3/0 its the best hook around period, the bait holder doesn't destroy plastic, and its thin and light and makes for a much smaller and compact overall profile than everything else, and I never have baits spin on me (its made by Gamakatsu)
2. GAMAkatsu 4/0 or 3/0 Red EWG , caught a 8.7lb and a 7.6 lb in the same week on one. something about using this red hook with a green pumpkin red flake bait just works
3. VMC light flipping hook
TEXAS RIG WORST
1. TROKAR LAZER flipping hook and EWG hook. they are very sharp , and that's because they have monster thick points on them that are great for piercing the fishes mouth, but PortaJohn smelly when it comes to the small stinky barb that has resulted in monsters lost from shaking the hook enough times where it was ridicolous. also they're baitholdes blow and destroy plastics , and the curve on their hooks is all wrong. Eagle claw as a brand so Phaking ****ty seriously the suck. its like if YUGO made a luxury car brand, its still a YUGO and it sucks
Drop Shot best
1. Mustad period
2. Trokar Lazer -
3. . roboworm 2-0 hook
Drop shot worst
1. gamakatsu
2. skinny bear
3. i
I use mostly Gammy and Owner hooks.
The vast majority of y hooks are owners. I have hooks from every brand and just use whatever though. When it comes to a straight shank for a creature of something I am partial to trokar. As far as sharpness is concerned that's all in your head and nothing a diamond file can't fix in a couple seconds. It's easy to make a hook sharper then they day you opened them and only takes seconds.

I use a diamond file on a Leatherman . It sharpens hooks great. I've been looking at the sharpened hooks through a jeweler's loupe and noticed that a lot of them had a false point , a weak spot caused by the file going from the point out. This false point will bend on the first hooked fish. So I am trying to do a more careful job and only sharpen from the point in , no back and forth motion.
You don't sharpen back and forth. You sharpen against the point and it doesn't take much. One quick little pass per side down the slot in the file is perfect. I use a little pen type file. I think they even sell the same exact one on TW. It has a grey handle and one of those clips on a pen for your shirt pocket or something.
I am big fan of Gamakatsu hooks. Not the most expensive, but not the cheapest. Good quality hooks. They've never failed me yet.
VMC, Owner, Trokar sometimes Gammy.
