Hey there, i was just wondering what everyone's favorite, most dependable lure is for bass fishing. One that works well when nothing else seems to work, or one that just gets many, and/or big, fish often. A lure that is reliable in pretty much every condition from thick fog, dirty water, clear water, deep holes, shallows, weeds, structure, you name it! Mine would have to be a Gary Yamamoto Senko pumpkin color worm texas rigged on a gamakatsu EWG worm 5/o hook.

Black and blue jig. Craw or chunk trailer depending on the time of year. In the past 9 years I have caught more on jigs than anything else.
For me, it's gotta be a 7" ribbon-tail worm, tequila sunrise, T-rigged on a 3/0 round bend offset hook.
Tom
rubber worm or a jig
Black & blue jig or a 7" blue fleck colored berkley power worm.
I wish there was some magical lure, but I'd be a bald-faced liar
if I claimed to always get the skunk out of my boat ;-)
On balance, the trusty plastic worm and the jig & craw
have had the best batting average.

A senko of some sort definitely. I'll trust a jig in any situation too, but I will never not have confidence in a senko. I always feel I can get bit on one, it's just that good.
Shaky head with a Zoom green pumpkin with black flake worm.
I use Provider jig heads. Usually the 1/16 weight.
Jitterbug.
Seems like most of you go with different forms of worms. The bass love em'

I've always wanted to pick one of those up....
Sorry if I sound a bit like a griping old curmudgeon, but the GoTo threads almost always miss the big picture: Lure choice cannot be separated from location and conditions. There is no one lure wonder. If you are relying on the lure to find your fish for you, you are going to be find yourself banging your head against a wall. I posted two responses trying to flesh this out in the other thread, including presentations to try and why:

...i'm just asking for other forum members on their opinion of their most reliable lure.
Weightless junebug trick worm. I dont fish it all the time because I want to grow as a fisherman, but when the going gets tough it will usually produce for me.
What you're asking does not exit. There is no bait that is the "lure that is reliable in pretty much every condition".
Perhaps most interesting is - You are missing the point.
The single best part of any fishing success is figuring out and finding what works - Yourself.
Asking for or looking for the "Holy Grail" of bass fishing is a waste of time.
In fact to take this a step further, I would not want the answer even if it did exist.
It would truly ruin the best part of it all - the chase and challenge.

This question read to me like "what lure do you have the most confidence in".
To be that is the plain ol finesse worm. Black.
Anyway I fish this I seem to catch fish. I have a ton of confidence in this bait.
I'll always tout it's effectiveness, but to me, a shallow shad rap always is a sure thing. It may not be the best lure every day, but you'll catch fish on it.
I have a ton of confidence in Roboworms for bass now. If I'm wade fishing in a creek, a rebel craw and a gold panther martin are sure things too.
When all else fails, dropshotting a straight tail roboworm usually always gets it done. May not always catch the largest bass but it almost always prevents the skunk.
As far as scoring fish seldom do I not catch fish when using a jigs or senkos. I pass up a lot of opportunities for fish because I don't use those baits too often, I don't enjoy fishing that way. For the places I fish I only use a small handful of different lures.........flukes, jerk or twitchbaits, top water popper, gold spoon, that's my freshwater arsenal, carry them in pocket.
I am like so many others. I usually know that with a senko (usually texas rigged in some manner) I am going to have some success. On the other hand, I do not think that Senkos are the optimal solution in most cases. And, let's be honest, they aren't the most exciting thing in the world to fish. If you fish them all the time, you are only going to be good at fishing one thing. May as well just put a nightcrawler under a bobber. For me, it is all about being comfortable enough with many baits to be able to find the optimal one given the conditions.

I am with you. As a pass the idle cold weather time, I guess some find these entertaining. As a let me see what I should be buying/throwing utterly useless...
For me it would be a 4" Senko. You can do so much with it presentation wise besides the "standard" weightless wacky or texas rig.
5" or 6" Senko Wacky or T - rig.

Seems like a legitimate question to me. Here's a short response: 5" Senko & Fat Ika
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/
here in CA it seems a Senko in green and a drop shot for when all else fails -Zoom Trick in green.
Have to admit -the lure that can catch them more than any other is the senko
5" Yamamoto senko in black/blue. If I'm looking for size then a black neon jig with a red paca chunk trailer.
I haven't often gone out and come back totally empty handed when I use a 4" senko rigged wacky. Then again, really any soft plastic I use weightless seems to do the trick.
I think also time of year seems to have an effect on how effective my lures are. Many times early spring will bring forth lures that didn't work in dog days of summer, etc. You get my point.
I don't think there's one totally successful lure, just one that fits many conditions.
Gotta be a senko for me.
If my life depended on it and I could only take one bait, it would have to be the senko. That way I would either die of hunger or boredom.
t-rig
7.5" worm
If size isn't an issue, a floating rapala.
used guys ned 2 tink top 2 bottom...
start wit Zara Spook, Devil Horse, Sammy
den we lok at Smithwick Rattl'in Rogue, Rage Shad, maybe Menace
a little deeper, MegaStrike StrikeBack or Siebert Outdoors Cosmic spinnerbait, Norman Fat Boy, Bandit 200,
Lucky Craft 2.5
den, Red Eye Shad, Shadalicious and Berkley Hollow Belly, Cut-R worm
Sibert Outoors Swim Jig, Rage Tail Menace trailer
on da bottom me lik da MegaStrike Shak e2 Pro Series, MegaBug & Tube Craw, Senko,
Fat Ika, Thumper and Lobster Rage Rigged
last u try maybee Fat Free Shad and DD22
Off my curmudgeon's horse:
There is no ONE ... (shaddap!)
OK ... a Senko-like cigar worm, probably a 4" (bright day), or 5" (regular). But not in winter.... And not ... (shaddap!)
The reason is bc bass see them as food a lot of the time and have a hard time picking up negative cues from them.
in order it would have to be black and blue jig, pitboss in green haze, and a kvd 2.5 in sexy shad
If it had to be one lure and one lure only it's gotta be a jig.
Day in and day out it would have to be a jig. Green pumpkin blue or black. I can use those two in any water clarity and at any time of the year and catch fish.
As usual- A-Jay is a hammer and nails are running scared.

I haven't heard of anyone using a jitterbug in 30 years... I think I have a couple in my tackle box that might be older than me...
A++
Senko and Ika's are hard to beat. I hardly throw them anymore though. If I could only have one lure I would want a jig, with a Ragetail craw trailer. You can cover the entire water column with one, I might want it to be a bladed jig (chatterbait type).
