Hey guys I've heard a couple of entertaining stories of how people catch bass on weird and interesting lures...my curiosity has been piqued.
The weirdest for me is when one of my friends cut off a strap from a jock-strap wacky rigged it and caught a 1.5lb bass.
I have personally caught bluegill and bass with jellybellys too.
What have you guys caught on weird bait?
my wierdest was a jig head with a spinner(like the ones on beetle spins) atached and cut off parts of a plastic lizard, artificail bloodwor, and i thinka samll plastic grub....caught several large bluegill on it
Once i caught a fish with my hands.....
Is there anything you cant catch bluegill on? I've caught them on bread, meat, beads, bee and grasshopper parts...hell, i caught a few on just a hook.
I once witnessed my fishing partner catch a bass on a gummi worm (texas rigged).
exactly what weknowhowtolive said.. bluegill will eat almost anything.. even some nice shiny hooks anything that looks like its worthwhile, theyll attack it
spark plug w/ a treble pinched into the gap. Bluefish will eat anything moving.
How about plain wood?
my son was fishing a grub on a jig head once. he started joking about eating my plastic worms (he is 4) and eating the gummy worms. that led to me hooking up the gummy worm like a shaky head. he patiently fished it (patient for him anyways) and then right as he was reeling it in for the last few feet it got smashed by...well it turned out to be about 9 inches but we both got a kick out of it.
A friend of mine was fishing for carp and he saw bass busting shad on the surface. Since he didn't have any lures with him he took one of those bite indicator bells that you can clip to your rod tip, attached a treble and caught 3lb. bass!
foil around an ewg hook, for a minnow bait .
I've caught gar by putting a bobber right up against a bare hook.
chewed up bubblegum
I once caught a couple small bass and crappie on a texas rigged strip of tomato...

NOW THATS FUNNY, I almost just spit out water all over my KB and LCD monitor, too funny!!!

Now that is funny! ;D ;D ;D
Where in the world did you get that idea from?
tab from a coke can.
my friend caught a 10lb catfish on a ritz bitz cracker
Iv'e caught Bluegill on bare hooks and chewed up bubble gum. I also caught a 3 pounder with a balled up piece of bread. My weirdest catch, though, was a 7 pound bass with my bare hands.
GUMMY WORM RED/BLUE
I got some of these marine worms from a buddy in Florida many years ago. They are the meanest and nastiest live bait I have ever used. I only had a dozen and they were gone in about an hour. I caught a fish on everyone I had. The thing is, I have never seen them since. I was surprised to find them on the interenet.

Geez...those things could give a guy nightmares

I've used those things in saltwater and they are mean! They actually bite you when you try to hook them!
what are they?
Those are tube worms. In America you see more bloodworms and sandworms.
I caught a decent catfish on a crankbait. How? I backlashed my cast and I was digging out the mess while the crank was floating on the surface. I actually thought, "please don't bite that bait while I'm digging out this not". About that time I feel the rod tip twitch a bit so I pulled on the rod a little. Sure enough, there was a fish on it. So I had to reel over the backlash thinking I had a good bass. When it got to the boat....."what the....it's a catfish!"
My buddy from Lake Charles, LA was with me and he said he had never seen a catfish hit a crankbait much less a floating crankbait. I guess since the fish thought it was a dead fish, it was food for him. Stupid bottom feeder.....
I was going to throw a piece of a funyun out and see what would happen a few weeks ago. I'm going to try it sunday and see what happens.
Bluegill= open snap swivel, gummie bears, bell sinker, bare hook.
Bass= I use to have a kitchen sink novelty lure that would actually catch bass.

Those look like Pyle (Pile) worms to me, I use those every time I fish saltwater. They work great, although they do bite. Gotta hold they're head down with something..
I've used Leaches too, those are fun as hell to use. Just be careful
a friend of mine caught a bass on a piece of bread he was retrieving while carp fishing.
I caught a three pound northern on a green condom. I unrolled it and put in on a treble hook. i hooked it on all three hooks, it looked like a parachute comming in ;D. I caught it on my third cast.
A buddy and I were catfishing on the Neuse River one night using chicken livers. We were using chicken livers wrapped inside of strips of panty hose (an old trick to keep the liver in place and from sliding off of the hook). However, about halfway through the night, we ran out of livers (not to mention Natural Light), and we found a half of a snicker bar. We wrapped it in hose, embedded the hook and threw it out into the current. We were shocked to get several strikes prior to landing a 2 pound catfish.
I've also caught carp using chocolate chip cookie dough!
3lber. on a 8" bright red pike bait!
Not really a weird bait,but...I was bream(bluegill) fishing with a flyrod and a small popping bug.I was really tearing the bream up.Suddenly,KA-PLOOSH,a 2 pound bass busted my little popping bug attached to a 4 lb test leader. It was a hail of a fight,no bulling him in on that rig.I managed to land the bass and was laughing like a little kid the whole time.
I've caught bluegill with gold hooks tipped with pieces of white notebook paper. They wouldnt hit it without the paper. Also caught the biggest bluegill of my life on a frozen meatball. I also used a jumbo cocktail shirmp from my friends freezer when we ran out of worms and caught a 4lb bass. I don't think thats too weird considering people on the St. Johns river use shrimp to catch bass.
I caught a four pound walleye on liver when I was 14. Caught it below the salamonie dam in Indiana. Nobody fishing that day actually believed me or my uncle who witnessed it.

Bluefish do eat anything moving especially when they are in there schools. If you want a good laugh if there ever happens to be a Bluefish school swimming past your boat just drop a plain hook with out anything on it and you will catch a Bluefish (works better with something on the hook though but it is possible to catch one with nothing on your hook)
