BPS Brand suggestions..... 2024

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

i do 95% of my tackle shopping at local Dick's or online through Cabelas....

yes, Cabelas....i have been loyal to them for over 30 years...

BUT... we are headin' south Friday and i will be goin to BPS...

what are some of their brand stuff that is worth gettin..

such as... their version of trick worm.....BPS "floatin' worm"??

their spinner baits??  tubes??  etc...

suggestions please..... the Bait Monkey will be let out....  :(

fishing user avatarjeosbo01 reply :

I'd pick up some of their spinnerbaits and a bunch of treble hooks if you need them. The BPS treble hooks I buy are (I think) VMC hooks with different labels (peel the label off and you will see the VMC logo)...

fishing user avatarGangley reply :

while your in the south, go to Academy, much cheaper on most things, but it doesnt have the HUGE selection like BPS.  Good luck finding the right equipment and write a review on the equipment you get!

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I like their Enticer football jigs.  Other oddball items, like lure wraps, reel covers represent decent values.  Their XPS Fluorocarbon is another good product.  I used their Bionic Blades for years, not the greatest, but when on sale, they are great value.

fishing user avatarwhoopbazz reply :

I have used BPS Excel mono line for many years. I used to use it for many years for every app. Recently I use it for cranks and spinnerbaits. It's really darn good stuff. I really like the Lazer Eye Premier spinnerbaits (I thinks it called premier it has red hooks and a long tailed skirt, and more than the reg lazer eye). Many of their plastics are good...I use their tubes. Don't care for the Stick-Os though.

I'll second that one! Love their fluro!!!

I have also had success with the BPS XPS Extreme Crank and Static Shad crankbaits and the Lazer Eye Series spinnerbaits.

fishing user avatarShad_Master reply :

I'll second the Enticer jigs - good for the $$$'s

fishing user avatarBassin_Fin@tic reply :

I really like the xps slimdog walker:

The shallow square billed cranks are great too and you don't have to worry much about losing them.Great for running through brush!

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

I'm also a fan of their XPS Florocarbon line. If your looking for a crankbaitrod their Crankin' stick is good value when they are sale for app 40$. Also the RC 0.5,  RC 1.5 & RC 2.5 are fantastic shallow running square bill cranks they normally run app 15$ each but usually will have them on sale a couple of times a year for $ 9.99.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

NOTHING

Absolutely nothing. I do most of my bizz with

BPS locally, but I don't buy ANYTHING in-house.

Every BPS product is "least cost".  I don't find any

"value" in BPS branded merchandise.

fishing user avatarDanny1991 reply :

My favorite jerkbaits! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74323____SearchResults I also like their XPS fluoro

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

The tender tubes are my favorite product.  The single color tubes are the best, soft, salty, and great tail action.  I also like the XPS weedless tube jigs, the XPS series of cranks, and the lasereye spinnerbaits.  I really like the cranks for the price, especially the deep-divers.  I really like the action and color selection.

I can't believe I forgot to mention the BPS Magnum Flippin Tubes!!! Thanks for the reminder BRR!

fishing user avatar-nick- reply :

Their senko knock-offs are actually really good. The stik-o i think they're called. I've always caught just as many fish on them as i have real senkos. Not as cheap as ***'s but they're still cheaper than senkos. I also like their spinnerbaits

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I like the lazer eye spinner baits, and the 6" stik-o.  I have excellent luck with their spinners this year.

The exact reason for me also. I buy what I can afford and I can afford BPS stuff. They look awesome to me. I have a Slimdog that I've torn them up with. I can't imagine a Sammy being any better.

...And you are absolutely correct. :(

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

I have 3 bps Extreme reels, 2 Pro Qualifier reels, 4 Extreme rods, 1 pro Qualifier rod, a couple of tackle bags, 12 rod socks, and about 10 pounds of bps plastics (mostly stick-os). I find much of their stuff to be a very good value. Just my .02

I also back up XPS flourocarbon.  But you should also pick up their XPS mono becuase it's very, very cheap

fishing user avatarhmongkidBee reply :

Oh yeah almost forgot don't forget to pick up some topwater lures.  I like BPS's topwater lures especially the blue back/chrome or black back/chrome

fishing user avatarksbasser reply :

BPS has a glass rattle that is shaped like a round nose bullet. It's the 7 mm rattle. It will fit snug in many tubes, slide it right up to the head. If you use net bait paca or baby paca craws, that rattle will fit inside and will call fish in from long distances.

I agree with RW.  BPS will go to the lowest bidder to have a product made, then slap their logo on it and sell it for more.  I can't justify paying more for a product than its worth, only because of a logo.

I would make that same argument regarding most brand names. To dismiss all bps products as inferior because they have their products made by other companies does not make sense to me. If the specified standard is met, and that standard meets the wants/needs of the consumer, the lowest bidder makes sense. That is the principle that drives the free market.

The price versus value discussion is always interesting to me. There is sometimes a fine line between being "penny wise and dollar foolish" on one side and "I paid more so it has to be better" on the other. If I had the money I would be an enthusiastic collector of high end equipment and tackle. I do not, so I try very carefully to get the best bang for my buck, and I think Basspro allows me to do that in many cases.

fishing user avatarLurking reply :

definitely stock up on the BPS hooks (for example you can get 20-25 BPS hooks for $5-7 as opposed to 5-6 similar Gamy's for $3-5) ...

I like BPS reels and rods as well...I like the Extreme reels and I really like the Pro Qualifier reels (those are some good reels). Also I use the Micro Lite rods (these are the most affordable rods I have found for light weight lures), the Extreme rods, the Graphite Series rods, and the Pro Qualifier rods.

I always look through the BPS branded gear when shopping, if it looks to be good quality or similar to what I was shopping for I'll give it a try. More often than not I am pleasantly surprised with my purchases.

I don't like the Stiko worms however, never caught a fish on one. I can be lightin' 'em up with a Senko, hook on a similar Stik-o and nothing. The Senkos feel softer and more fragile...also seems like they move a little different in the water. It's probably me and my lack of confidence in the bait more than anything as I know a lot of people have good luck with them.

I wouldn't say I'm a BPS junkie or anything, I definitely love my Curado, my Ambassadeurs, my Berkley plastics, my Zoom plastics, my Rapalas and even my ugly stik rods (etc, etc, etc), but it seems like I end up spending more time than I should in that store. And as a result I talk myself into buying or trying various products.

If nothing else stock up on some BPS hooks, you'll save some coin there. :(

fishing user avatarBoogey Man reply :

The XPS Rattle Shads are good. One bait I really like is the XPS Tri-Vibe. It's the lipless crankbait with three different line ties like the old Heddon Sonar. The three different line ties do make a difference in the vibration of the lure. I've caught a bunch of fish on these. I also use their Nitro cranks, caught as many of those as any other brand. I've got one XPS Z-Pop that the fish have worn the paint off of and most of the feather is gone from the rear hook. As far as soft plastics, I use their Squirmin' Worms and Stick-O's. Remember, the fish don't care what you paid, just get out and have fun :(

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

I really like the BPS Bionic Blade and BPS Extreme rods. The BPS Laser Eye Nitro crankbaits have caught a lot of fish for me. I've had 20 and 30 fish days using them.

x2 On the BPS Rattle Shads.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Their rods and reels are a good value only when they put them on sale. The same goes for their cranks.

fishing user avatarBriBass reply :

id have to say i have a johnny morris baitcaster from them that i have in the front line with the rest of mine... something about the feel i really like..

another vote for the slimdog too :(

enjoy

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

well... here's whati ended up with..

3 enticer football jigs

2 enticer swim jigs

2 packs of tender tubes

3 lazer eye spinnerbaits

2 slim dogs

1 xps crank mid

1 xps crank shallow

some hooks

and duo lock swivels

i really didn't need any line, rods or reels...... but sure looked at plenty..  8-)

thanks for all the suggestions..... i have saved this list for future reference...

fishing user avatarSWMIBASSER reply :

No doubt about it the BPS Johnny Morris Elite rods, are the best $ for $ rods available.

Aside from a few very specific lengths and actions I don't think I'll buy any more Loomis rods because of the BPS J/M Elite rods. Sale or not. You can't beat them.

Your self control is to be commended...For some reason I spend $40 "just looking" in BPS. The checkbook really hates it when I make a planned trip where I actually NEED something. :-)

I noticed your location is Indiana. Did you happen to go to the Clarksville (southern Indiana) store close to Louisville? There are some good bass fisherman working in the fishing section there. I spend far too many lunches in that store...

fishing user avatarKevO reply :

The only BPS branded item I've bought was the XPS flourocarbon.  I havent been able to use it yet but it will be put to the test Sunday.
