all i see on this forum is you guys' bashing senkos. i for one love senkos, they are my top bait.
a lot of you guys say they are beginners baits. If i am fishing a tournament and catching them like crazy and your not...im still catching fish
i would like to hear your opinions on besides that they are beginners baits.
mods if you dont approve of this thread feel free to lock it
They're extemely easy to catch fish with according to alot of people.(Even though I've never caught a senko fish :)
Maybe some people like a challenge?
My opinion is if it catches fish, I'll use it.
I usually don't like using them because you gotta fish them slow most of the time.
i hate them because i catch so many fish on them that i dont want to put them down and it makes my skills with other techniques lack. It seems like if i dont get hit with in 10 casts of another bait BAM im back to the senko..
I know this may seem odd to you all but I have caught fish in other ways than the original way to use a senko. I've ran out of fluke or shad type baits before and popped a senko through grass and caught nice fish. I've also fish senkos weighted texas rigg. Actually that was the first way that I used them. I caught several fish that way also. I know that if you have a problem putting a bait down because you are catching too many fish on it than you have a problem because I'd be using that bait all day long. When is the last time you saw KVD put down a crank bait because he was catching "Too Many" fish on it. THAT'S ABSURED! I mean if it is working and you are catching alot of small fish. Try doing something different with the same bait to catch larger fish like use a weighted hook and move a little further from the shore line. Now it is good to be versatile and be able to turn it off at anytime it begins to stop working but as long as the bite is coming my way I'm sticking to that pattern.
for years, senkos orbitted the earth in a cryogenically frozen state. now they have arrived, intent on world domination. they make their home in an evil lair, with their evil bait underlings and cronies, which include the bait monkey, live baits, and a variety of bed fishing baits. their master plan is to catch so many bass that fishermen will have no choice but to use them to the exclusion of all others. demand will exceed supply, thus driving the price up to HAHAHA...........ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!
"senkos, dr. evil's favorite bait."
We don't hate the bait.
The senko catches a lot of flack on here because there are billions of threads about the bait and those who have been here a long time are tired of reading about them.
i dont use them much for the reason that 95% of the time something else will outfish them based on the conditions from what ive seen.
Beginner baits? I got a better chance catching something on a tube bait than i do on a Senko.
My only grip is how much they cost and how easily they damage.
There's 2 lakes here I haven't caught a dang thing on a senko yet.
The bait is over rated if you asked me.
A beginner bait? Thats a good one. If that means anyone can catch a fish with it even a beginner I'd have to say that is more of a compliment than a insult to this bait. Not many baits or lures out there that this can be said about. I personally wish there were more.
Just another tool in the box.
The darn thing has it's own shrine, what more could anybody want?

Your bait selection is a personal choice.
Some guys like to throw moving baits while others have the patience to fish a slow moving bottom bait.
Conditions will usually direct your bait selection and a Senko is another weapon in your arsenal.
I love them and have caught many bass on Senkos.
I always take Senkos with me when I go fishing, be it at a pond, river or lake since they can be productive everywhere.
Avoiding any bait can be a mistake when fishing. We all know it is trial and error before we find the "pattern" and Senkos have their place in your tackle box as do all other baits in tryng to establish a pattern.
May I suggest fishing your Senkos "wacky" style and let us know what happens.
I always have a MH spinning outfit rigged with a soft stickbait. (Notice I didn't say Senko? There are much cheaper alternative "copycats" that do the job just as well ) I don't, as a general rule, fish with them exclusively. If I come to a low hanging branch where I have to skip a lure underneath, then I pick it up....same for docks. Weightless t-rig or wacky style for that. I like to fish slow, but to work that bait weightless all day is too much for even me.

This^.
I don't "hate" Senkos, I just don't use 'em much because the technique drives me crazy, but they DO catch fish. Since I never have (nor will I ever) fish tournaments, I don't feel obligated to fish a bait that I don't enjoy fishing just to land a few more fish than someone else.

AMEN!!!
I like Senko, and it is one of my most productive lures in 2009. But last year, I have started to throw more of top water, crankbaits, and Jig. Luckily, my average lb per bass went out by almost a lb. But, the numbers of bass I caught went down. Senko is a good bait to catch Bass, but if you want to catch quality Bass then I will stay with a Jig or stop water (personal opinion).
My buddy would out fish me on Senko, if I use other lures but I always catch the bigger Bass. For the 2011 season, I am still going after quality over quantity.

Totally agree with this statement, but not just on this site, but in everyday conversation with other fisherman.
I don't hate them, I stlll use them when the bite is real slow or if I'm with my son who's learning to fish. I think this bait has more potential to get him to catch a fish, to keep him from getting bored (when he does catch fish on them, that is) and teaches him to slow down where he would rather fish a little quicker with like a spinnerbait type lure. To be honest, I only used a bag of them last year, but they are a productive bait.
Kinda funny, I bumped into one guy last year still trying to keep them a secret.
I think they are too expensive, and for some reason I am not catching as much as I used to on them. I catch way more on flukes and trickworms.
They are just one of the "weapons" in my "arsenal". But I will admit they are one of a few go-to baits.
I will also say that over the last 5 years or so I have really learned a lot about how to fish them efficiently. If you are just fishing them by casting them out wacky and letting them soak then you really don't know how to "fish" a senko!
X2 on the "Go-To Bait" In fact, alot of days it's the first bait that hits the water and the last bait that is thrown and everything in between.
Beginners bait.
I have to laugh! ;D
A 21' Triton W/250 HP is a beginners boat too.
I have caught ALOT of fish on Soft Stickbaits. My 3 largest Bass I have ever caught came on a Stickbait. In one day I boated at least 2 Bass that went 5#'s,which is unusual for the lake I fish, its full of Dinks. On another body of water, the first cast with a Stickbait got me a solid 4# fish.
Now these arent GIANT fish, but for someone who is used to catching dinks, its substantial.Ive weened myself from using stickbaits somewhat, but now I cant stop throwing a Dropshot.
*** sells a GREAT Stickbait with a good selection of colors and a great price.
Just for fun, a little background on the Senko. ...Out of curiosity I asked Gary Y. during the height of the Senko craze how he came up with the fat worm ***.k.a. the Senko. He was weathered off the lake at a Toho trailer park so he had a few minutes.
His answer was somewhat startling. He hired a couple of fellows that were good at making making molds for plastics, but didn't know squat about fishing. Gary kept telling them he wanted a thicker worm to experiment with. After a few failed attempts, Gary, exasperated, took out a fatter than normal pen from his pocket and said that he wanted wanted a worm with that kind of shape. So the Senko idea came from Gary's pocket so to speak.
Also of note was that the Senko was not an immediate hit with anglers. They didn't start flying off shelves until word got around a couple of years later how deadly they were. He did not go into details about fishing them weightless or who thought of that approach. (And maybe I just forgot to ask.)

Exactly my experience. A Senko or knock-off is one of the most versatile baits in my arsenal. Just one example: Depending on the weight, a wacky rigged Senko can be worked quickly at a variety of depths. I'm glad everyone does not use them; makes the fish more likely to bite mine.

i am not askin hoe to use one but why some guys hate them so much. i know how to fish one and im very proficient with it
It's my go-to bait for when I bring someone new fishing with me. The senko was how I got my gf hooked on fishing.
Boring, not consistent big fish baits, lots of gut hooking.
I use them when I absolutely have to. But if ANYTHING else will work, I will use that instead.
Gut hooking...Yep Bizz you hit the nail on the head. Ive gut hooked a good share of fish on a Soft stickbait myself. Seems the fish hit it on the fall, and absolutely engulf it before they start moving. By then its too late. Happens alot when your deadsticking the bait while picking out a backlash too.
I hate them because guys discard them in the lake after they rip. Then you have hundreds and hundreds of bloated white turds on the bottom by July. :
I heard that if people keep bashing senko's, Gary is going to stop making them. (we all have feelings)

I don't hate the bait for this, I hate the litter bugs that toss them into the lake. It's not uncommon for fish to spit up these discarded gray turds during the fight.
I wonder how many bass get poisoned by Senko-style baits that end up on the bottom of the lake, either by negligent anglers or when they accidentally tear off?
QuoteI heard that if people keep bashing senko's, Gary is going to stop making them. (we all have feelings)
That would be fine with me. All of the Senko-type baits could disappear tomorrow and it wouldn't bother me at all.
Senko's are pretty amazing...they always seem to catch fish for me. They certainly have negatives though; Gut hooks, and quite expensive. I love them though...I can sit in one spot for 1/2 an hour and just barely move them (I'm quite patient) so they're perfect for me. Of course, chigger craws are pretty good too...
