So there's been a trend lately on Lake Guntersville (in my area at least) and that is down sizing swimbaits to catch your limit, and then start trying to find the big momma.
My question is what are some smaller swimbaits (3 inch or 3.5 inch) that you guys would recommend? I know a guy in our club broke down and told me that he's been catching his limits on a 3" sassy shad with a smaller (1/4oz - 3/8oz) jig head).
I've looked around and all that usual suspects have came up, Yum Money Minnow, Shadlicious etc, I was just wondering if there are some others out there that i should look at.
Thanks!

Keitech Swing Impact is the ONLY plastic that comes to my mind to answer that question
Big hammers, keitech, basstrix, ripple shads, sick fish, weedless shads, grass minnows, decoys... I could go on but those are all top notch baits and cover all the variety of types.

X2 for this answer. But would include the Fat Swing Impact as well.

I also like fats the best. But as for best producing swimbait I don't think basstrix can be beat.
Ripple shads are awesome rigged on a plain jighead or a small wide gap hook.

They are my favorite on a swim jig
LITTLE CREEPERS ALL AMERICAN TRASH FISH
Gambler EZ Swimmer (darker colors) weightless or weighted hook, and Lake Fork Magic Shad (white) with belly-weighted hook.
I bought a pack of Yum Money Minnows that were meant for an umbrella rig and had good results. I got into a school of fish that were reluctant to hit a square bill but jumped all over the Minnow. But that was just one day and havent repeated it ,.
For small swimbaits I like the Keitech Easy Shiner in the 3 inch size. Nice and soft but still pretty tough.
The BPS Sassy Sally comes in 3.5, has a great Skinny Dipper like swimming motion and excellent durability.
Swing Impact Fat gets my vote.

If you told me you were flipping a jig into weeds, I wouldn't bash you and say a jig is completely different than a grass jig.
You really need to chill, you are bullying/harassing this guy at this point. Sure he did some semi-unorthodox things but he's new. With a little time he will adjust to the site and has every right to become a part of this community and utilize the wonderful resource that it is. Patience is a virtue.

I have never seen a grass pig maybe I should check them out.
Berkley makes a nice paddle tail swimbait.
Play nice.
Some editing and post removal. Next stop is "Timeout".

Im surprised no one has mentioned the Trigger-x slop hopper, I really like it as a trailer on my bladed jigs. Lacks durability but makes up for it in action.

They look good. I buy the BBB cane swimmer or Gander Mt. Swimbait (the same thing) though, because they are similar in terms of softness and action and are usually less expensive. On 1/23/2015 at 5:41 AM, KritterGitter said:Im surprised no one has mentioned the Trigger-x slop hopper, I really like it as a trailer on my bladed jigs. I only ever downsize to 4" swimbaits I find I am catching smaller 12-15" fish way too often fishin these smaller baits
and for smaller swimbaits the market is wide open and though I like Keitechs not theyre not the only good game in town in that market
dang it will it please warm up enough to get out there?
grass pigs are nice, especially because I get them even cheaper than they already are. Obviously they likely don't have the action of the higher costing lures but it is sufficient for me. They are great swimming, jigging, and trailers for chatters/spinners and offer a good amount of colors.
a 3" sassy shad is really 2.5" since they measure them with the ballhead jig so the shad bodies like the squirmin shads from bass pro would be another alternative to the Mr. Twister versions, but that is crappie fishing small. I use small sassy shads on spinning tackle in the 3" size when the shad are small since they are still the best artificial imitation even with all the newer baits. Problem is rigging them weedless, you almost need the exposed hook to act as a rudder to keep them swimming properly. I know GYB makes a swim shad that is small, but I would check out the Creme Lit'l Fishie pre rigged segmented swimbaits, the old school models, they make one that comes 3 per pack, one stand up jighead which lands the bait upright which is good during the spawn, and it is not the most sexy choice compared to the little creeper Trash fish, Skinny dipper and all the other excellent choices, but it is close if not better imo than the standard sassy shads.
Keitech makes a 2.8" swimbait and the Havoc Beat shad would be examples of 2 small swimbaits I would maybe choose, but a sassy shad is a good bait for chucking and winding and covering water, I like the MR. Twister colors the best. The bass pro swim baits, the swim sally is a good bait that comes 3.5" and better imo that Reaction Innovations skinny dipper since they are softer, more buoyant, and not as stiff. Gambler makes the little Ez which is 3", and KVD elite shiners come in small sizes, really soft, and perfect for cold water as they are almost straight with a small boot tail, awesome colors, and overall a good swimbait with nice translucent color patterns....I would try swimming a 3-4" smoke grub if water is clear, or maybe a chart pepper if stained water if going that small.
Primetime, I find it amazing that you can so coolly and offhandedly characterize a dozen or so baits that all fall within the category of "swimbaits under 4 inches for bass fishing." I am honestly impressed. You might be some sort of incredible small-swimbait prodigy. Maybe there's a prize for that, or at least a store coupon? (Golly, I'ld contribute.)

It appears the Swing Impact , Swing Impact FAT and the Shiner versions from Keitech all excel over most of the competition - they simply score the highest in all the reviews by fishermen and fishing writers alike ... After considerable research , my paddle tail swimbait choices begin and end with Keitech - nothing matches their color selection and soft swimbait action .
