Smelly Jelly VS JJ Magic 2024

fishing user avatarBurke reply :

Was trying to give myself something for the scent on my plastics. I have two gel of Smelly Jelly of Bass Hammer and some other one that i cant think of ..

EDIT: I have the Bass Hammer and Bass Feast ;) The bass Feast Caught me two bass today in 40 min span.

Until I have been reading about the JJ MAGIC. I am thinking of getting the clear since i dont wanna mess up my lures, Just wanna the garlic scents on to attract bass to my lures...

Should I just stick with my smelly Jelly or just get a JJ magic and put the lures on them the day before the tournament ? cuz i don't wanna make a mess on the boat that is not even mine if i accidentally spill it and i am prone to do that ..

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Shhhhhhhh - Now don't go telling everyone about smelly jelly - especially the "Bass Hammer" - ;)

Seriously though, the Smelly Jelly Sticky Liquid has been my scent of choice for a few years now. I have not tried JJ's and don't plan to, it's a risk over gain thing for me.

:)

Which smelly jelly is preferred?

fishing user avatarBigdawg48 reply :

JJ's Magic is the best on the market if you ask me.  Not only can you use the colors independantly but you can create custom colors.  JJ's color your bait all the way through the bait and the smell last forever!

I keep all colors on my boat.  I would take the clear, chart, and methiolate.  Be careful and you will not have a problem.

I havent used smelly jelly but I dont need to.  If it scares you to use it...dip your bait on Thursday or Friday before the tourny.  You will have plenty of scent on the baits when you use them.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

Haven't tried smelly jelly but JJ's stays on the bait for days, not hours. Like others have said, once you get used to it and are careful, no problems.

(Megastrike works pretty darn good too)

fishing user avatarbassmasterdb33 reply :

Stays on for days!!! good thing cause my plastics hold up for about 3-5 fish and done.

Try JJ's and see what you think. I doubt you will

ever buy Smelly Jelly again. JJ's is the real deal!

;D ;D ;D

fishing user avatarFlukeman reply :

Had a guy clean my clock six to one one day with that darn smelly jelly. Yes, I now use the smelly jelly!

fishing user avatarBurke reply :

Okay, Should I just get the clear one ? that will not change colors if I understand ...

I am not looking to change colors unless you guys think I should just buy extra one to give different look ?

fishing user avatarHammer 4 reply :

Clear will not do anything to a colored bait, just don't use it on 3X soft baits, JJ's will melt them... ;D

fishing user avatarrobsbell reply :

Smelly Jelly Bass Feast and Mann's Sting Ray Grub.  Deadly on cold water bass!

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

I've used Smelly Jelly for several years, been very happy with it.

Point is you can dip your baits before hitting the water and they will still have plenty of scent when you use them. Plus you'll have everyone that loves Italian food within 5 miles running over to see what's for dinner. ;D

fishing user avatarKC Bass Fanatic reply :

I've never used Smelly Jelly but I'll say this about JJ's.  I had some used plastic worms laying on my boat deck when I put it in storage in November.  When I got my boat out 2 weeks ago the worms still had a strong smell of JJ's on them.  I can't claim that it lasts 'forever' but it has to be darn close.

Now just stinking doesn't mean much to a fisherman so I'll also add that when I'm using JJ's I notice a difference in how long they will hold on.

fishing user avatarBrandon K. reply :

Is JJ's a gel? Been looking for something to put on hair jigs. Almost picked up a jar of Smelly Jelly yesterday.

Nope.  It's a liquid.

fishing user avatarBurke reply :

After telling my GF about how i have been thinking and being borderline of buying the JJ Magic

She was the one that suggest me to get the smelly jelly last year and She gave me the approval to get two dips ;)

Just placed an order last night to get it on time for the fishing tournament that I am part of

Clear and Methodal (SP) is what I ordered and hope that It will bring me many bass to win the tournament

Dip it three to five seconds and it's there.  There's no chance of it not being there if it's JJs.  The stuff can out smell a grizzly bear farting bull moose.  And that's why it so daggone good.

Just opening the bottle the smell should hit you....You're the first person I know of that can't smell the stuff...LOL

People are warned not to open it in the house or car. That smell lingers around for awhile.

You sure you don't have a cold or stuffy nose?

If your looking for a gel check out Pro-Cure.

fishing user avatarHardHookset reply :

JJ's is wicked wicked stuff.  It comes in a glass bottle for a reason, it will melt a normal plastic container but there's no doubt it works.

I can't even keep it in the house it stinks so good!

Went to Tackle Warehouse site and found Smelly Jelly and ordered but could not find JJ's Magic there.  Where can I purchase JJ's.  Would like to try each and see which one works best for me.  Thanks

Thanks GTrombly just ordered clear.

fishing user avatarBigMoneyGrip reply :

I got the special a few weeks ago when it was offered. Before I opened the box, I could smell it. When you open the bottle, the funk of garlic permeates your nose so hard, it delivers a punch straight to the brain that leaves you on the verge of a coma.

I can assure you that I will NEVER spill this stuff and I hope to never get any on my skin. Nothing short of a 30 minute soak in muriatic acid will remove it.

Scott.

No, I dont have a stuffy nose at this moment, I even put my nose near the bottle and take a big sniff of it

I am just smelly garlic and i love the smell of it but I was thinking it would make me pass out

However, if the others say this is good, the only thing i gotta do is trust you guys on this  ;)

A year ago, I'd have assured you of the same.  6 months ago, I'd have entertained you to no end telling you what I went through when I spilled a jar of Methylate in the basement.  WHOLE house smelled like garlic for about 2 months.

Has anyone ever used JJ's to change the belly color on hollow body frogs (kopper and paychecks)?

If you can't smell JJ's when you open the jar, I suggest you go visit a nose specialist. JJ's is some ridiculously strong stuff. It smells like a garlic truck flipped over and baked in the sun for a few hours when you open up the jar.

fishing user avatarBrimfieldBass reply :

I never used JJ's but plan to soon..but I can say I used Smelly jelly...and very pleased with it..

My son and I were fishing a local Charity tornament and the bite was hard...my son broke out the Jelly and treated jig skirts with it...it all turned around then..to the point we were culling...the final was we took 1st with 5 fish at 18.6 lbs..and were the only ones with a full well of fish...

Now I hope JJ's will do the same ..since we have a order going in soon....I heard great reports for JJ's and its worth the try
