fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Take a look at the vests and packs that fly fisherman use.

fishing user avatarMarty reply :

I use a shoulder bag. There's no way I could recommend something specific to you. You have to match your own storage needs. John's suggestion of vests and packs that fly fishermen use is fine; it's not for me because I carry too much and my stuff is bigger than what will fit in typical vest pockets. You have a number of options available to you.

fishing user avatarBig Mike in Fl reply :

I use a small side accessory pack that I got actually for hunting a few years ago, it works great, a couple bags of plastics, a small box of hooks/hard baits/weights. and maybe some pliers. I also use this in the boat so I don't have to dig through my big okee. fats bag to find another plastic when one gets used, i have the bags of all of the plastics I have rigged up in the pouch,so unless a bait change is needed, I don't have to dig in my bag.

fishing user avatarS I G M A reply :

i use a cabelas advanced angler backpack... its real convenient if your moving around a lot and don't own a boat and have more than 1 rod to carry

fishing user avatarhercdoc reply :

This is what I'm currently using. I can fit a small box of 9 crankbaits, a couple pack of plastics, hooks, worm weights, tape measure, weight scale, needlenose pliers, and a couple of jerkbaits with hook bonnets installed. I can hand carry it or strap it around my waist. This is what works for ME.

fishing user avatarMuad Dib reply :

fishing user avatarbilgerat reply :

I did the Plano fishing fanny pack for a couple of years. It was OK, but this year I got this from Cabela's

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20327_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20327&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20327&id=0042540

I got it for $25 on a blowout deal. I like it a lot. Very well made.

You might want to consider a fishing vest also. It will hold way more stuff than a fanny pack. My problem with the fanny pack was you could only pack so much stuff. I always ended up wishing I had brought something I had left at home.

fishing user avatarBassNub reply :

this is what i have, its perfect holds all my bait monkey tackle, water, and also fits perfectly on my back, i can't complain more, but if I were to complain it'll be about the color

I use a gym bag like this:

nike_gymsack.jpg

They work well as long as you aren't carrying a ton of stuff.

fishing user avatarOIFBasser reply :

Um, I don't think they make a cool looking fanny pack. I saw on BPS they make a fly/kayak vest that looks good. Or backpacks work good.

fishing user avatardmac14 reply :

I just use a backpack, holds 3-4 Boxes and can fill plastic baits as well. I used to carry the big Tackle bag too, but usually ended up hiding it in the woods and walking. IMO they over price "Tackle bags" so i just used the old school backpack  ;)

fishing user avatarFordNFishinLover reply :

"Cool" and "fanny pack: In the same sentence? Is that possible?

fishing user avatarCRFisher reply :

Depending on how long you're going to be out I think just deciding to carry less is the key.  I have a shoulder type tackle bag, filled to the max.  Last year I seemed to switch bait less and cover more ground by throwing a few mixed plastics and some hooks/jigs in a thicker bag along with a crank or two, sticking my pliers in my back pocket and heading out that way.   Keep the bag in my car to make a quick trip back if I really feel like I'm going to switch up.   3 or 4 bullets weights, 2 jig heads, 4 hooks along with 2 each of a tube, senko, worm and fluke don't weigh much.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

For freshwater pond or canal I put a few things in an old rapala box or 2 and just stick them in my shorts pocket.  That covers it for me.

For saltwater I use a fanny pack, which is very popular down here.  I use plastic lure containers and put 3-4 items in each. 1 for spoons, 1 for feathers, 1 jerkbaits and 1 for topwater.  I can walk the beach for hours unencumbered and have everything I need.

I haven't used a tackle bag in years for shore fishing.

fishing user avatarMitchIsFishin reply :

I don't know what Okee-Fats bag you have, but I picked up a T200 small bag at Dicks this weekend for $10. Carried it for 3 hours Sunday with a dozen cranks, couple of dozen of inline spinners and 10 bags of plastics with 5 packs of hooks - no problem. If this is smaller than what you have, check it out.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Fly vest and fanny pack make a great combo.

fishing user avatardrmnbig reply :

I do a lot of river wading and pond fishing so I have a small, hard plastic, double sided box about 10" x 5" x 3".  I have a strap tied to it and loop in through a belt loop in my pants or shorts.  I think stick my needlenose in my back pocket and head out.  It stay out of the way and works great!

fishing user avatarMSPbass reply :

Check it out: http://store.pacifieronline.com/jjcedb.html

It's the "men's diaper bag" I used when my first kids were born.

fishing user avatarRedhed reply :

ill give a cheap tip.. gotta bookbag laying around your house from back in the college days? if so, use it. i love it. it can fit all you need for you day of fishing plus water or whatever drink you prefer. i wouldnt know what to do without it. i have some areas that require a lot of walking and woods walking and the back pack stays on my back at all times..  ;)  love it

fishing user avatarRedhed reply :

dang you guys like to spend money dont ya?  ;)  ill stick with my already paid for book bag. i use gallon sized glad locks so sort me lizards, worms and creature baits.

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

Book bag(i like the one strap kind) and bait boxes ... cheap and effective.

fishing user avatarbrophog reply :

I didn't care for a bookbag when it had books in it. I'll stick with a vest. ;)

keep the hooks in their bags and all will be well.. i use baitboxes and gallon freezer bags to hold my lures. fishing vests do not hold what i want, not enough room. i use a vest fly fishing but never bass fishing. bookbag all the way. lots of room and light

fishing user avatarbrophog reply :

Fly fishing vests have small pockets, and therefore make for poor bass fishing vests, but this thing has massive ones, and a lot of them. It is not sold as a fishing vest, but as a general purpose vest, meaning its large pockets easily fit common sized lure boxes.

If you like a bookbag, then certainly use that, but you wouldn't skip a vest like that because of lack of room, I can assure you.

BTW, please read what I wrote again. I have no idea what books have to do with your reply.

fishing user avatarFordNFishinLover reply :

EVERYONE MUST LISTEN TO THIS  :)  ;)

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

Even when I am fly fishing, I cant bring myself to wear a fishing vest.

For the 1% of people that do not fall under the blanket cast by this next statement, I apologize ;D

Everytime I see someone wearing a fishing vest I think " What a yuppie/ wannabe/tool.

With some of my fly waters so close to the bay area, you get a LOT of guys with high end Sages, $400 dollar waders, ornate vests, and the thousands of dollars worth of accessories decorating their person.

These are the guys that have no idea what they are doing, but really want to seem like they do. Most typically they drive a subaru wagon or a Range. I dont bother talking to these people.

Id rather wear a manny pack and wet wade then be lumped in with those jackasses. ;)

Its the guys driving the beat up truck, with a ratty chest pack and faded waders, that are carrying the high end sage, those are the guys I want to talk fishin with.

Id rather wear a manny pack and wet wade then be lumped in with those jackasses. :)
