Senkos - What is your favorite non standard color? 2025

fishing user avatarHaze reply :

I use senkos and dingers alot, but I stick to the basic colors ie. Green pumpkin, watermelon red flake.  I am getting overwhelmed looking at all other colors and have no clue what to try to mix it up.  I usually fish in small waters bank fishing, medium to heavy stained water with lots of grass.  Any recommendations?

fishing user avatarHurricane reply :

Black/Blue

fishing user avatarIndianaFinesse reply :

I almost solely use green pumpkin, but if I am fishing in clear water a translucent color tends to work better.  I also occasionally throw bubble gum when no one is looking.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I've tried a number of colors, but now I don't get hung up on subtleties of different flakes, etc.

I feel I have the spectrum covered if I have

-very dark (blue and/or black)

-watermelon; any variant except the lightest green

-goby or orangish or light brown

-white variant...cream, pearl, disco, etc.

And, I have developed a personality-disorder-like aversion to anything that is laterally 2-toned; dipped tail is fine, but if bottom and top are different colors, it won't find a way onto my hook

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

I don't throw them a lot except wacky rigged as a follow-up when frogging, but when I do it's only Zinkerz, and it's either in The Deal or Bama Craw on a Lake Fork Wedless Wacky Hook in 1/16th oz.

None. Gimme the standard colors. Sorry. Green pumpkin or watermelon. Chartreuse tip if I'm feeling really exotic.

fishing user avatarThe Fisher reply :

Other than some Watermelon color then

Smoke Pearl Blue

fishing user avatarOhio Yakker reply :

Any shade of purple gets the job done for me.

I like the green pumkin with chartreuse tip, I think the bright color gets their attention.

GYCB red shad laminate

Just yesterday was fishing some very heavily pressured water. Couldn't get bit on anything - cranks, spinners, poppers, jigs, you name it. Went to fishing senkos on an excruciatingly slow presentation. Went through the standard colors with a few nibbles but no commitment. Switched to the red shad laminate and immediately hauled in (2) 4lb'ers and a 5.

I think the oddball colors are great for this situation, when you want to give them something they aren't seeing all day every day.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Baby Bass is the best GYCB color, for any of their plastics!

fishing user avatarDodgeRamWax reply :

Besides your standard colors. Try Cinnamon purple flake. Really good color!

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Plain old black seems pretty non standard, if you look at the available colors.  I do like the smoke with purple flake.  Not sure the color #, but that's one I like.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i don't know what standard color means....  no joke.

i throw whatever i have on hand and that typically means whichever ones were on sale!  i've been tossing a lot of sprayed grass, black and pumpkin (black and green flake) lately because that's what i have the most of!

last night i picked up 2 packs of purple pearl/blue flake because they were on sale, we'll see what the fish say about those!

fishing user avatartstraub reply :

I don't throw a lot of GYCB senkos but do use the bass pro stik-o pretty often.  I just buy the assortment kit and look at them as dark or light colors not so much the exact color.  The ones that have worked very well for me are watermelon magic, black/blue, June bug, and sweet potato pie.  I really don't think that those are the perfect colors just the ones that came in my kit any similar colors would probably have worked just as well under the same conditions.

But the two-tones look eerily like something alive!  =:-0    Why the aversion?  Is there an interesting story about something that happened in your childhood?  ;-)

fishing user avatartander reply :

Junebug. Right now I have a jb TRD on one spinning rid, jb Hula on the other spinning rid, jb Senko on my worm rig, and a jb lizard on my Carolina rig. Yep, Junebug for me !!!!  :D

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

My favorite is BAMA BUG

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

Aside from watermelon or pearl/gold fleck,  baby bass.

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

My favorite non-standard color is pearl w/gold/black flake.  I find bass can be fickle about it, but pickerel seem to like it dragged, texas rigged, though weed beds (Ponkapog in Canton, for MA members).

fishing user avatarSubaqua Adinterim reply :

Goby

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

Junebug

Pumpkin green and black flake

Chartreuse black flake

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Generally I use 5 colors of senkos and a wild card.

Main colors: Green Pumkin,, watermelon, smokeish, whiteish, junebug.

Besides the 5 main colors I will carry one or two bags of colors that may work? On the days that any color works these are what I use or I throw a KO.
