Howdy Folks,
For yrs I have used EWG hooks for my 4 and 5 inch senko.
I don't feel that I miss many fish and my ratio is better since getting away from the superline Gammy and staying with the standard Guage. That said, it is hard to ignore those that are having success with round bends and straight shanks.....
So.....just looking for some input, thanks
Al
I like 3/0 EWG for standard senkos and the 3/0 straight shank roboworm hook for thin senkos
Standard 3/0 and 4/0 Gama EWG hooks for 5". I did acquire some centering pin screws that attached to the eyelet of the hook this year to try. I've also heard add a drop of super glue before pulling the worm up to the eyelet but you would think once you catch a fish it's gonna slip.
Was looking at these too

I don't know if you're also looking for a recommendation on a wacky hook for Senkos... but this past year I tore a ligament in my wrist and had a hard time getting good hook sets and keeping fish buttoned up. Switched over to this hook and really made a difference, rarely lost a fish from that point forward. The 1/0 size seemed best for 4 and 5 inch Senkos.

Thanks , I use the owner' for wacky. Looking more for Texas. Thanks
Gamakatsu Offset Round Bend in 3/0 and 4/0 for all of my senkos or stick worms
I use the Berkley® Fusion19™ EWG Hooks size 3/0 on 4 and 5 inch Senkos and same thing in a 2/0 for the 3" Senkos. This helped me increase my catch ratio

I havent used these yet but the Fusion19 trebles are sticky.I might give them a shot.
I use these in 3/0 and 4/0 with great success: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Twistlock_Light_Hook/descpage-OTLL.html

Do you think you get any extra life out of the bait this way?

YUP. My preferred hook choice right there.

Yes I do. They do not get torn up nearly as fast as when I rig them with a standard EWG.

Screw it in first, then rig like normal?

exactly
Owner twist locs on all of my plastic stick baits, Yamamoto helped in the design.
I've used every hook mentioned above, and find merit in all of them.
The choice between a 'screw-coil keeper' and 'Z-bend keeper' is a tough one.
In my experience at least, a screw-coil offers a more secure hold initially,
but a Z-shank offers better trailer longevity.
By that I mean, in order to pull a trailer off a screw-coil keeper, you have to physically remove
a slug of plastic the diameter of the coil. But once the trailer has been pulled off the retainer,
you'll have to replace the trailer or bite off 1/2-inch of trailer. It takes less force to cause the trailer
to ride over a Z-bend shank, but it doesn't destroy the trailer and can be repeatedly re-positioned.
So it really boils down to a decision between 'trailer retention' and 'trailer life'.
FYI: Oversize screw-coils are available that provide an even greater hold on the trailer.

5 inch senko I t rig with a thin wire 4/0 ewg and fish wacky rig with a 3/0 mesquito hook w/ an o ring. With braid and floro leader I rarely miss fish and hook sets it self most of the time with a little pressure

These are what I use. Love them. My hook up ratio
went up after using both EWG and round bend.
Not sure why, but O'shaughnessy is my choice.
I'd say buy a pack, try them out and see if they work
for you. If not, then you can eliminate them from your
list of "gotta have" hooks .

This but 4/0 for 5" senkos...a ewg hook for a worm just never made since to me..

When the Senko first hit the market Gary recommended these.

The confusing part that that I see these on his site and look to what he did in partnership with owner.......just doesn't add up....
I really like the Hayabusa WRM 951 wide gap hooks. I use 4/0 size for 5" soft stick baits.
These are quality hooks and work well for me.
Occasionally I'll use the owner twistlock light in open water.
When fishing around heavier cover I prefer to have my plastic threaded up over the knot,
and with the twist lock hook the knot is exposed.

That is the hook I was introduce to in 1997. I still use the Offset Round Bend for the 6" and 7" Senkos and other big worms (Mann's 12" Jelly Worm).

Fits Rage Lobster, Anaconda, & Recon quite nice!
I really like the Owner Twistlock Light hooks for my Senko baits...

These are what I use also for almost all types of stick worms and swim baits.
