Are they really worth the money? I would like to make a change from the $30 Sea Strikers that need renewe every season. Its probably cheaper to just buy Sea Strikers every season, but there is alot to be said for quality, too. I love the idea of glass lenses - not so easily scratched. 8-)

Yeah, I had a set of polarized/blue mirrors that were great on Ontario and Erie. I have a waypoint somewhere on Erie where they sit in about 32 FOW, LOL. Get some croakies or something to keep them on, if you spend the dough on good eyewear!

I have had 3 pairs of costa's and had to replace everyone of them. I have had 1 pair of Wiley X's for almost 2 years now and they are still in great shape. I will not own another pair of costas. Nice glasses just extremely overrated for the durability.

Horrible thing to see.

I've never been able to see right since. I am seeing terrible playcalling on Sat. now and i don't know why :

The first pair all the rubber just fell off of the legs (fathom) the second pair the lens cracked when they fell off my head onto the deck of the boat (fathom) and the third pair all the rubber came off and started getting hazy and i couldnt get them cleaned or whatever they need to be very clear (harpoon) I didnt abuse them they just didn't hold up. The Wiley's are tanks i have dropped them and beat them to death and they are still holding up. A few scratches on the lens but in great shape.

I have a pair with the copper 580 lenses. I didn't want to spend that kind of money, but they are amazing. I got them to fish with but now I wear them anytime I'm outside. I can feel my eyes relax when I put them on.

In the end, money well spent.

EDIT:

Find a place that has them and try them on. There's a bunch of different sizes and styles, one will fit.

i have a pair of costas..but they are second to my oakleys they are both good but i like the fit and the clarity of the oakley straight jackets

You are probably better just buying a pair of polarized Oakleys. Add up all the money you've spent on cheap pairs already, you could have some oakleys with multiple lenses.

Thats is a good reason to get Oakley's, some of the models have interchangeable lens'.

Costas with 580 lenses are hands down better than Oakleys or any other pair of sunglasses I've ever worn. If you go try each pair on you will see for yourself as well as long as you are able to look outside when you try them on. The downfall is like others have said the glass lenses do tend to break easily. If you break a lens it cost around 80 or 90 dollars to have them fixed. They just started making a 580P lens that are polycarbonate that are suppose to be much stronger. I'd take a look at those. The copper glass is my favorite lenses. The mirrored lenses block out the sun a little better but with the copper glass you can see deeper in the water. I just got the gray glass as well and like them a lot to. I have the rincon and brine models. Good luck with your purchase!

I'm a big fan of my Costa's. I have the amber lenses and wear them everywhere. I especially like them for driving when it is raining. It's amazing how much more you can see.

Personally, I own both Oakley and Costa's and have been more then happy with both. Granted I haven't been able to test the durability of the Costa's (have only had for one year.), the lens quality is second to none. Also if you do decide on Costa's consider definitely take into consideration what type of material the lenses are made of. Glass is a bit heavier, but I have found it to be very resistant to scratches. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I have a pair of the Costa Wave Killers in CR-39 that are my fishing glasses..had them for 4 years not 1 scratch on them. Great glasses at a great price.

Also have a pair of Triple Tails in blue mirror glass..also great glasses..BTW The CR-39 are pretty much bullet proof and IMO offer better protection from flying objects when fishing.

Costas are good indeed. I would advise against the green mirror 580's however, if one is trying to use them during anything but high, sunny conditions. They are a bit too dark for early and late, and even cloudy use IMHO. I wihsh I had gotten the silver or amber colored lenses.

I have two pairs of costas and two pairs of wileys and I will say that they are both nice brands of glasses and while my costas are really nice the 580 lens shattered fairly easily when bumped against something on top of my head, I would hate to catch a tungsten weight on a missed hookset in the eye, wileys are supposed to be shatter proof but I'm not 100 percent postivie

How do you clean them without scratching, especially on the water?

If I could only have one pair of Costa's, I'd go with green mirror. It's on an amber based lens and tends to be just slightly darker than the plain amber.

If I get to have two pairs, I'd go with an amber set for low light, sightfishing, etc and silver mirror for those bright bluebird days.

I would recommend Native eye wear. I just got a pair at Gander Mnt. a couple of months back and I wont be going back to Oakleys or Costas. Not that those brands aren't any good, but the Natives only cost around 100 and you can get interchangeable lens for 60 to 80 a set.

If I get to have two pairs, I'd go with an amber set for low light, sightfishing, etc and silver mirror for those bright bluebird days.

I believe the green mirror is a copper based lens, as is the silver mirror. Copper lenses are the best all around lens in my opinion. They can handle bright sunny days and still allow for great clearity when site fishing.

Actually, I think we're both right although it depends on the type of lenses you chose. 580's=copper, 400's=amber. My green mirrors are on 580 lenses and to my eye the copper base is a touch darker than the amber.

I like the Costa glasses, but I prefer the Oakleys for durability. I've had the same pair of Oakley Polarized Gas Can sunglasses for about 4.5 years. While they are slightly scratched, they have been to hell and back and lived to tell the tale. I'd say the Costas with the right lenses might give you a 5-10% advantage over the Oakleys. The rootbeer/amber color lenses from Oakley are great in all light.

I've been thinking about buying a pair of 580's in green mirror for driving on sunny winter days; the glare off of the snow can be downright blinding.
