Doing some organizing today and I must admit that I have a problem. I have a crankbait problem, I have 16 square bills, 14 lipless, 12 round bill shallow runners, 10 medium, and 12 deep divers, this doesn't include poppers, sammy type baits, etc. Do I seriously need 64+ crankbaits??????
Probably not. Send the ones you don't need to me. I'll take em free of charge
Yes...you need that many!!! You should have at least 30 of every style, brand, running depth and color!!!
Heck, I think I've got close to 50, and I haven't even thrown a crank in months.
Bass Dude Is very wise.
I've got that many in lipless alone. I'm afraid to count my totals. Years of collecting and buying them on sale will do that to ya.
Why is your collection so limited???
That's a start. I have six or seven boxes of them.
I carry around 150 with me and that's still not enough, I keep trying to add more to my bag
I feel better now, I'm thinking about converting my tackle box to a set of rolling luggage
Cranks have got to be my least favorite way to fish! They definitely can put fish in the boat but what a grind.
I have like half a plano box of them. Maybe 15 or so. Cranks are one of my favorite baits, but the cost sucks on them.
I was fishing with Ok Bass Hunter this week and that dude has like 6 boxes stuff full of them. I think its time to get more stuff
I've got way too many. I probably have at least 75 still in the original packages. Why, I don't know. Probably have over 150 total. Still have some old Bagleys and the old Poes too.
Welp i have about 50, mostly 1.5 and 2.5s now i got boat, probably getting alot more,I dont loose alot when i was on shore., so i am sure i will be loosing a few more, plus gotta get some that go past 5 feet. lol
I counted mine this spring I've got 5 boxes with more than 300 different cranks.
Let's also have a sub category for CUSTOM HAND MADE CRANKBAITS!
I have 15 of those! And I much prefer to use them instead of the factory made ones.....of course, when I lose one, it's very hard to take.
But....you can't beat it for a CONFIDENCE BAIT! Something that cost that much must be a real fish catcher! If you don't catch fish on it, it's YOUR fault, not the bait's.
You NEVER - EVER have enough crankbaits.
You need to keep your favorites separate and use them in tournaments and places where you know you will not lose them.
You need to take all the others and use them everywhere.
No go out and buy some more.
Wow I have 3 crankbaits.
Admitting we can all here them all speaking to us many isles away, leads us to adopting them because of the way they look at us.Helpless, trapped in packaging, etc. We all try to help some by bringin them home, but soon return to help those left behind. We all must do our part to insure they have a nice place to live.....
I remember when I only had a handfull, then that grew, now I have 300, and thats down from last year since I weeded out all the ones I never use. Stike King and Spro are like crack to me LOL, and the fish don't mind them either.
I carry 3-6 3700 boxes of hardbaits in the boat with me every trip, then there's the the 7-9 3700 boxes of backups or spares at home and dozens of baits still in the packages in totes. You can never have to many. After all, they don't expire or go bad or anything
I own 22, but I'm having a hard time deciding between some SK RES, Xcalibur XR50s, or the Academy Rattlin Ts. Plus if I buy any more, I will have to buy more storage too. I need a sugar mama.

not to go OT, but to me the H20 line is sweet, I have alot of cranks, and stickbaits( the sammy looking one) I am pretty sure they use VMC hooks aswell, same as Rapala, without the sure set crap... on a side note, Hickory's Acadomy is T-6 days till openig, that is 2, miles away from me.. I mean do you know how hard it is having my collage beside it... and an hour break between 2 classes.. I will be hearing them whisper to me... plus it has been painstakingly slow going to class, watching them slowly put it together... lol, back to your discussion.
Last year I had over 100+ baits and the only crankbaits I threw and had success with were lipless crankbaits.
This year was better for me because I actually took the time to learn how to fish a lipped crankbait, but then I lost so many I ended up restocking for more than I originally had. I also bought a lure retreiver, but I'm not sure how well they work fishing from shore.
I probably have a hundred. You can never have too many lures.

X2. I have a crankbait addiction.

That'd be a start. By the time you get to my age, you'll be right there with the big boys. I use a Tracker TX175 for my everyday stuff and I have a 4X8 pegboard in the garage full of Rapala DT's and Bandit 1-2&300's still in the package. BTW, Dicks had FatFree Shads on sale a week or two ago 2 for $5 and I picked up $20 worth.
My 'problem' is that I don't loose cranks unless I'm fishing from shore and the olnly time I do that is when I only have an hour or two to fish. I'm RETIRED! LOL
Rockchalk, you only saw what I keep in my bag. I have the spares at home.

I'm not sure how they work from a boat, may need to invest in one. I don't lose many typically if I can just give them some slack I can get them back. Barring that I can typically get them back by getting behind them and they work loose.

Ya, just alittle jealous lol

I think I have about 50 too....but that's just with my Norman DD22's!
My name is Nick and I am a crank addict.
Man, I only have a couple different colors in each diving ranges, like 10 or so all together. This works for my wallet, my boat (small) and me. I don't know how you guys decide which one to throw when you have so many. If I had that many, I loose time deciding which one to throw.
I do waste time deciding what to use, lol. My addiction isn't any better, went by Academy they had the clankin crankin raps for 4 bucks, about half what I see them anywhere else, plus they had the H2O swimbaits for 2.88, I won't say how many I bought, but I'm safe as the wife still has more shoes than I do cranks.
a crank addiction....am i the only one here with an "all fishing lures" addiction? from cranks, to soft plastics that i have no idea what they are, but you grow out of it right???

You've got a pretty good start there
I ain't keepin' track of how many I have, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere north of 150.
Tom
At last count I have between 400-500 cranks ready to fish but I made most of those baits myself. I have approx 50-60 made by other builders. These are all balsa wood cranks, plastic cranks are not allowed.
I just bought a ton of red eye shad. I hear they are amazing.

Don't feel bad. While I have more I'm still in your league compared to the other people in this thread, ha ha. The idea of owning 150 crankbaits alternately thrills and scares me. I already have a hard enough time carrying the stuff I do have and I make the average fisher look like a piker.

Nice "starter" kit.
I ceased counting how many I got and carry when I reached 600.
Which brings to the question if you really "need" X number of cranks ? the answer is that most probably you don´t, look at me, I carry 600+ and end up fishing with the same 20-30 I always fish with.
I have a bunch too!! The fact is that I only ever tie on one of them....Bandit 200 in pearl/chart back. I should have just bought 50 of those!!
Regarding storage, Plano has those new Hydro boxes for ventilation. Is anyone using these for their cranks? The holes seemed a little on the large size and man that would be a pain if the hooks would slip through. Concept is great but I need someone who's used them to confirm. If not, then the plain old boxes and some air dry time will be the continued method.

Sounds a lot like me, I have no idea how many but it numbers in the 100's. Certain key baits I will have a few back-ups to the back-ups of some of my favorite colors. If they discontinue something I like I will buy an emergency stash. Not that I have a problem or something

I don't carry all the cranks that I own. Most of them are "spares" that stay at home until needed. I probably have 40 or so in my tackle box.
