Largest Lure You've Caught Bass On? 2024

fishing user avatarNeil McCauley reply :

For the hell of it I trolled a 7.5" Matzuo Kinchou plug while night fishing last week.

The thing was a little ridiculous, even the 10XD looked small next to it. It weighs 3 oz. :tard:

But after an hour or so I actually hooked up with a ~4 lb LMB, one of my best this year. I was very surprised. Makes me wonder just how big a lure you could use.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Not sure which is actually bigger but I've caught bass on an 8" Huddleston (8" and 4+ ounces), and a 9" Slammer (9" and 2 1/2oz). Those baits are pretty small compared to some of the swimbaits out there. One of the hottest ones lately is the Dep's Slide Swimmer 250 which is 10" long and weighs in at a dainty 6.5oz. Savage Gear just released a 16" 24oz line through that is targeted for pike/musky anglers but I'm sure there's some bass guys out there that will give it a shot.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Eight inch swimbaits and 11" worms.

I don't think a bass 8 pounds or better would have any trouble inhaling a 16" baitfish. I wouldn't be shocked if that lure catches fish down to five pounds regularly, I've seen 8" - 9" swimbaits catch a fair amount of bass around 2 pounds or a bit under. Always I'm amazed at how big of a bait bass will tackle.

fishing user avatarCeeJay reply :

Crazy stuff.

(hides my 3" bass baits) :)

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I dont use large lures.because I have never caught fish on them. I've tried Striper lures and a Musky jitterbug with zero success .I'm guessing the biggest I;ve caught fish on was the Blakemore C.C. Spinner .

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Big Baits====Big Bass.

Throw a combination of sizes. Stay trying them. The bass will let you know when you get it right it's all in the presentation.

Change colors too.

I had great northern pike and muskie lures painted in bass bait colors. Clarks custom lures did an awesome job. Terry is a wizard. I explained what weird pink fish I saw and he painted them exactly.

fishing user avatarMIbassin reply :

As of now, the 9 inch slammer and 15 inch C-Mac worms are the biggest lures i have caught fish on.

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

10" worm

That would be a moreso almost appropriate size swim bait in some places I went to fish ( San Lorenzo and Sugar ) where was not uncommon to find a 6-7 lbs bass with a 2-3 lb tilapia stuck in it´s mouth.

Now to reply to the original question, the largest lure I have caught a bass on is the evident 8" swim bait.

Whopper plopper

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

16" trout swimbait called a dinosaur by Worm King, basically a big solid soft plastic body similar to a Big Hammer Swimmer.

Tom

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

8" Hudd or 8" BBZ .

fishing user avatarCanyon explorer reply :

10" Berkley Power worms and a #17 (8-9") Tony Accetta spoon while trolling for Striped Bass at Santee Cooper and caught a large Black Bass.

fishing user avatarbassr95 reply :

Hudd 68 Special, but I've been catching a bunch of 14" bass on it so maybe it's time for the 8" :respect-059:

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

The largest that I ever caught a LM bass on is a 7" Redfin while striper fishing.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

9" Slammer

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

13" Mattlures Dead Twitch(LMB 6.10#), 16" Boggs Eel(Striper). Most "productive" big bait however, probably 9" Slammer.

Problem is, even my xxxh only allows me to throw up to 20oz., so a new set up would be in order, just to throw one bait.

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

Just because your rod says up to 20 oz doesn't meant it cant handle a little more. If you wanted to know if your rod would work, tie something on about the same size and weight(a 16in 2x4) and make a couple casts. Rod ratings are usually not precise

fishing user avatarpoisonokie reply :

Zara spook. That was my personal best bass, too.

fishing user avatarBasspro3106 reply :

Berkeley alive minnow. god that was a good day.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

I've caught bass on a variety of Muskie lures the largest was likely a tripe blade in-line buzzbait maybe 12in. long.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

In some of the lakes I fish big lures attract muskie, so I don't fish big lures that much.

I fish mine on a 7' 2" MH/F Shimano Sellus with a Mettle reel and 17lb Pline CX xtra strong. It's a big bait with big hooks so I'm not quite as worried about pulling hooks as I am with a smaller crank. I've caught some fish with mine and had a toad on but she jumped and tossed it, bad part about a big, heavy crank like that, lots of leverage when they jump.

Kinda like a big, pegged weight. I figure some of the bigger fish around here would eat it up though
