Inexpensive Prop Baits 2025

fishing user avatarNotnatsSamoht reply :

Looking for suggestions for prop baits, most of them are over $15, besides the heddon torpedo Iv only found the H2O express slush daddy. Why so few budget options with prop baits?

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

TheDevil Horse is popular and inexpensive .

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

The H2O bait is a great bait. They have 2 versions, the Slush Daddy and Slush Minnow. I have both and they both work. I like the Slush Daddy more when they're feeding heavy on bluegills. Hard to go wrong at $4 and $6 apiece.

I got a couple slush daddy's to try, I like the h2o express baits so I figured they would be good, haven't got to try them yet.

I'll have to give them a try

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

There are larger spooks that have props single and double.

Check "over stocked bait & tackle" (sale) I'm not sure but they may have them.

Check ebay for used lures.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

Torpedo

But most prop baits are made of balsa hence their cost.

Often overlooked and under used.

I like the floating minnow baits with props on them . I bought several Bomber Prop A's when they were discontinued . Bagleys use to put them on the Bang O lures ,they may still make one . I dont know if any makers are manufacturing them today . My single best day of fishing ever was with a Prop A in post spawn conditions .

edited. Bagleys spin tail Bang O lures are still available . I saw some on amazon .

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Checkout, brannans bass shop online. I think they have prop baits listed in there topwater section.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Dang man, I don´t know where you are looking for them baits that you only find 15+ bones a pop, actually I´m pretty shure 90% of prop baits available in the market are less than 8 bucks.

fishing user avatarwisconsin heat reply :

H20's are alright. The Slush Minnow comes with hooks that are on the small side. And the bluegill one is fatter than I expected, but both baits still work fine and make a commotion.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

Another vote for the Heddon Tiny Torpedo.

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

Heddon Torpedos are pretty affordable, and I think the Smithwick Devil's Horse is the least expensive of all of the name-brand prop baits.  They work very well!

Tight lines,

Bob

fishing user avatarJeziHogg reply :

Hands down, my best performing prop bait is the Yo-Zuri 3DB Prop. Little on the higher side of a "budget bait" but these things are the cats meow.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

My favorite prop bait . The discontinued Bomber Prop A . I have a couple used and three in reserve .

fishing user avatarDaleGribble reply :

I too like the yozuri 3db prop bait. Come in good colors and the props make good noise/splash with the slightest twitch.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

Cordell sells a couple of inexpensive prop baits that've been catching bass for years.  The Boy Howdy and a smaller bait that I believe is called a Crazy Shad.

That and the popper are the only 2 3db baits I don't have, but if all the others are any indication they are top notch in terms of action, durability, and everything else.

The Bagley Bang-O-Lure has 2 versions, they have the spin tail jerkbait and the Bang-O-Lure twin spin prop, both are killers!!! The Yo-Zuri 3DB Prop is just incredible, it has a single rear plastic prop that throws water really well and has a very distinct sound, right now we are hammering smallmouth on that bait and they are only $8 and $9 bucks but my local Cabelas just had them on sale for $6.99.

Rapala Skitter Prop works great for me.

Rapala Skitter prop, Rapala X - Rap Pop, and the Devil's Horse.

The Cotton Cordell Boy Howdy is another really good one. The one I really miss is the Cotton Cordell Crazy Shad, which is shorter, with bigger double props.

it's  still the best big bass bait I know of. well at least here in Fl……………..

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

Here are the only ones I have. I had long retired my Smithwick. It was my last one and didn't want to lose it.

The silver with blue top torpedo style bait and the unopened Reaction Strike XRM both came compliments of LTB.

The last one I think is a Dalton. It was given to me by a member here when I purchased some baits it was a bonus he threw in.

I haven't fished one of this style in forever. See what happens when you get too much tackle.

Yup all kinds a Smithwick for $6.29 http://www.brannansbass.com/p-669-smithwick-devils-horse.aspx

Also there seems to be a wide variety of Heddon Torpedos for $5.29 http://www.brannansbass.com/p-218-heddon-torpedo.aspx

Real nice people there. It's right down the road from me.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

They all fish at brannans bass shop too. I spread the wealth around. Everyone has to eat. I do order from our sponcers/supporters first. Guys here like Sieberts outdoors and Bizzbaits keeps me above the dollar menu. Fishing equipment comes first. When money was a problem when I was younger I enjoyed P&J sandwiches. But salami and cheese was a bait too.

Don't forget the double prop baits.
