Stocking Up On Frog Baits! Your Input? 2024

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

I have a ton of solid frogs, like Horney toads,Rage Toad, many others! But what I want to stock up on is, the hallow frogs! I had been fishing the Spro popper. Are there any other ones that you think I should be giving a fare shot? I was thinking of stocking up on some the Snag Proof,Bobby's Perfect Frog? Any and all help would be great! :-?

Any info on the new Tru-Tungsten Mad Maxx Frog?

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

In my mind, there's no other frog needed other then Bobby's perfect frog. I've tried them all, except the new Maxx frog, and after using the perfect frog I haven't used another frog since.

fishing user avatarBuzbait88 reply :

river to sea makes a good frog.  I haven't tried the Maxx yet, I think its made by tru tungsten, but it looked really good.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

the Maxx is good but I honestly don't have any problems with Spro frogs. I've caught tons of bass on Spro frogs and even a few snakeheads with no problems.

fishing user avatarCasca reply :

try the spro bronzeye 65. river to sea and bobby's perfect are good choices.

regards,

Casca

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

Try the River 2 Sea 65 and you will NEVER go back!

fishing user avatarsuperduperdan reply :

The River 2 Sea frogs are easily my favorites. I have yet to tear one and the hooks are sharp.  I use the 55 and 65 sizes.

fishing user avatarbassman31783 reply :

River2sea for me as well.  Bobby's perfect frog is a close second. Both are a little softer allowing for better hook sets.

fishing user avatarvon reply :

River2sea as well. Not a big fan of the Spro. Mad maxx is too hard.

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

i fish frogs ALOT and have tried them all , the best frog i have ever fished is the CANYON PLASTICS  4.5'' frog , it is a soft plastic frog but has a tube like body that collapses very easy , i tried the rage tail toads , like them but the canyon plastics are alot better and all i throw now , give them a try  :) here is a link http://www.***.com/descpageFROGSCP-CPF.html

fishing user avatarwisconsin heat reply :

i did the same thing exactly a year ago, after i bought frogs from various retailors, i believe that the spro 65 and jr. are the only "perfect frog" you will ever need! although the bobbys frog is a good bait...the jr. is by far my favorite and one of my go-to lures.... it has been one of the most productive lures last year, it packs 1/2 ounce into a little smaller size so you'll get a few more strikes, it will give you the confidence you need to fish frogs!! whatever you choose, make sure you have a bronzeye jr. with you!  8-)

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

The 2 sea 65 can be bought at where? I will check all of them out, thanks guys!

X2.

I use this one the most. Not too soft, not too hard.

I will be trying R2S and Ish's Phat Frog this year.

fishing user avatarElite Image Fishing reply :

SPRO, Kermit is the way to go. It's not easy being green.

fishing user avatarlegendaryyaj reply :

What is the deal with Bobby's Perfect frog? Ive read so much about it and went to buy one to try out but that thing does not cast far at all. As a matter of fact, it doesnt cast anywhere. I can cast plastic frogs way farther than that thing.

I personally use the Spro's and love them. Im also starting to like the Deps Bassirisky's after they went hardbelly. I also have the Kanji frog that is pretty good. The Sumo frog is pretty much a Bobby's frog.

Go check out BassTackleDepot.com for the best frog selection. They might not have more colors but they have the most variety from different companies on one site.

fishing user avatarDWG1984 reply :

In my expirience River2Sea has the best combination of softness and castabilty. I still like the Spro but my hook up rate is a little lower.

i use Owner twistlocks in 5/0 , they are more of a "buzz" frog , meaning that they sink but are able to swim slowly , i like them that way cause i can let them sink in holes between the mats and once they sink , i twitch them and they dart like a fluke , causing most of my strikes just as they go under. i love these frogs cause i hardly ever miss a fish on them and they survive plenty of bass , so yeah , they are pretty durable for a soft plastic bait . give them a try . i guess every one has different ways to fish frogs , i am more of a type to have a moving frog , i don't like to let the frog sit on top floating , gots to keep it moving !!! so they match my style perfectly .... :)

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

Get yourself some River-2-Seas if you want.  But I'd advise you to avoid the Step Wa frog.  They suck.  Unless you reel them at exactly the right speed, the same speed, every time, they have either no action, or they dive and spin.  They sure are pretty, though, which has caught more than a few fishermen.

My experience with the Bobby's Perfect Frog wasn't all that impressive either.  I did like the softness of the frog, but the one I bought didn't float very well, and when it didn't sink I wasn't all that impressed with the action.  My favorite frog by far is the Spro Jr.  Soft, great action, and will cast a mile.

fishing user avatarbrushhoggin reply :

ive never had luck with hollow body frogs. only when i'm fishing in scum where they cant get a good look at it. i've fished all day with em in open water around pads not one bite.i've even gotten the life like movements of a frog down pretty well with no results. now horny toads, rage frogs/shad and ribbits produce all day for me.

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

Has anyone fished the Netbait toads?

armed forces is a great color!

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

i dont fish alot of frogs so imma post up the question that is on topic.

what about the scum frog pro? i mean... i had one and liked it... it cast well and never sank...but i never had a bronze eye or anything to compare it to. why are the bronzeeyes and bobbys frog twice the price as the scumfrog pro?

fishing user avatarlightsout reply :

The scumfrogs don't get the respect they deserve. It actually has caught a great deal more fish for me than the spros. Hook ups are a sure thing. The price is great, and their easy to source. The only drawback is their a little light in the pants, Since I only use braid on spinning gear (I wont use mono for frogs) its not an issue.

fishing user avatarzach t reply :

Snag Proof in tweety and shamoooooooooo

Make sure you superglue the plastic around the tie and under the hooks.

I would say, during the summer, I frog fish over 50% of the day. I catch a majority of my fish on frogs.

I have about a 75% hookup rate with snag proof and about a 15-25% with Spro. However, the snag proofs only last for about 5 fish. Spros last almost idefinitely. So stock up.

fishing user avatarA-Rob reply :

I dont' remember who makes the thing, but I got this hollow body frog with legs like one of them solid rubber buzzfrogs. I like it b/c I can stop/go it over lillypads, the start burning it to the next set.

is it this one http://www.***.com/descpageFROGSCP-CPF.html

fishing user avatarsimplejoe reply :

My 2 favorites are the Rage Tail toad and the Spro bronze eye 65. I do want to try the R2S frogs and new Spro frogs though.

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

One word for you SPRO!

I like River 2 Sea also, but why they are harder to get and more expensive on average, for same performance.

I have the Madd Maxx frogs and in my opinion the plastic on them is TOO HARD.

Another fair choice is The Swamp Donkey, by Reaction Innovations, but its a bit light and for the money your better off with Spro, although it comes through reeds better.

Bobby's Perfect is far from.

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

Thanks for all the input from everyone! Well I think I will have to buy more frogs that I first thought!  :-?
