Are any of you a believer in scents? If so what are some of your go to Scents? and when is the optimal time to use them?
Kick N Bass has worked well for me for quite a few years now. Have been fishing a few times when I honestly believe it made a difference in the numbers of fish I caught compared to the other guy in the boat. Mainly a confidence thing but why take a chance.
I only use scents when fishing very slowly or when I want the fish to not spit the lure quickly. I use Mega Strike.
I use them, I truely believe that it makes the fish hold on just a tad longer. Due to my reaction time, I need all the help I can get. CB's Hawgsauce and Jacks Juice.
I never throw nothin without spraying it with bang first
Kick'n Bass for me in the garlic flavor. I have several other brands in the boat too including all the ones mentioned, but the Kick'n Bass "seems" to be the best. I use it when I fish with soft plastics and jigs.
JJ's Magic for me. It's all I use. I get it in clear for when I don't want to change the color of the lure.
I also use Maga Strike on my swimbaits.
I use mega strike in the summer when the bite gets tough
I'm a big fan of YUM.

and Bang
When ice fishing for other species I am a big believer in using smelly jelly from pro guide. However when bass fishing I have not noticed a huge difference between scented and unscented lures. The action seems to be what matters more.
However this year I'm going to try to use some crawdaddy smelly jelly when crawdads are the main forage, and baitfish when bluegills or perch are the main forage.
Megastrike and carolina lunker sauce craw scent. Try mixing these two once in the same bottle and going flipping. I'm a believer!
I use scent on pretty much all my baits except for spinnerbaits/hardbaits, as I feel the fish bites the bait, and gets the treble hook (or single hook from spinnerbait) there is no time to hold onto the bait when the fish feels a treble so I think adding scent to these is pretty pointless. As I believe bass don't pick up scents from a distance, I believe it takes effect when the bait is in the fish's mouth.
As for my soft plastics and jigs, I use scent as often as I can. I use Megastrike for my soft baits, and since the Megastrike seems to make the jig trailer stick to the skirt I prefer Yum Crawfish scent for my jigs.
i really like scents for all lures soft or hard i mix scents together then add some salt and other stuff and i really get a good formula for hard baits i like the old mann's 4220 rub in it works great im not sure if they even make it any more
yum garlic

X2 the spray and I also go with CB's Hawg Sauce
I spray Jack's Juice Crawfish on any soft plastics I use.
I don't feel scent attracts bass from long distances like advertisements claim. I think it just helps them hold on a bit longer, or PERHAPS commit more often when they are near a lure.
I never use scent but if it enhances your confidence level, then go for it.
I use BANG Crawfish on my jigs.
i used smelly jelly crawfish scent for years and it worked good.this year i'm going with megastrike. i started with it last year and it's much less messy and i think it's as good or better than smelly jelly.i will let you guys know how i feel after this season.
MegaStrike is all I use.

good to see you back on the board jt!!!
A Fast moving reaction bait like a Crankbait, Spinnerbait, or Buzzbait, I think it is a waste of time. For slow presentations like soft plastic and jigs I think it works. Good enough that I put 100 percent faith in Powerbait plastics. They work for me. ;D
I like the Grizzly Long Cut Mint. I put a big dip of it in my lip. Then, using the same fingers I slide a Case Plastics Jack's Worm on a 2/0 Gammy. I'm starting to think that the Maine bronzebacks have a little nicotine problem too.

Glad to see the Jacks Worm is paying off..........in mint that is!

+1 It definitely prevents sampling. I don't use scent on reaction baits, but all plastics and jigs get scent. I like the convience of arerosols, but have been using the baitmate gel lately and it rocks! I put a little ribbon of gel on my plastic, and smear it around with my finger. It is a little annoying to have to wipe off my finger, but this stuff lasts an unbelievable amount of time. At least 45min with constant fishing. I scored about 15 bottles on clearance at walmart for a dollar. Jigs still get spray...Jack's Juice Garlic right now. I honestly buy whatever is on sale. I like Yum, Bang, Jack's Juice, and even Baitmate aerosol. Baitmate's bass formula actaually smells like shad versus the old gamefish version that was pretty much just anise scent.
I use attractants for two purposes
First as a lubricant; I fish in grass a lot and it helps my plastic baits slide through easier.
Second is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.
I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added
I've always wondered what MegaStrike smells like? Garlic? Anise? Other?
Last year was the first time I used any kind of scent, and I never will be sure , but my friend and I had the best luck ever fishing out of our usual lake.

I use MegaStrike on the trailer of my jigs and on plastics.
Still I seldom use it when fun-fishing, but almost always if I'm fishing a tournament.
I've no idea whether it works on fish or not, but I know it works on my confidence...... As long as it doesn't hurt my fishing.
